Anyone else still not have power?

I don’t and my provider is saying it could be two more weeks.

I delayed putting the window unit in, but it got pretty warm yesterday so I’m about to hook it up.

Permanent back up that wired to the house.

You’re gonna need a transfer switch if you’re wiring it like that. You could feed power into the grid and shock workers that are working on the lines to restore power without one.

Entergy put out a notice for BR to be fully restore by tomorrow evening.

Yeah there is an electrician in my neighborhood advertising on FB that he'll do the wiring and inspection. I'm thinking I'm only going to be in this house another 5 years or so, I don't want to invest in a permanent system for this house. Especially considering I don't lose power that often. Portable would also have the advantage of being able to be taken camping or to a camp should I acquire one.

As long as you cut off the master breaker (mine is located on my meter as it goes into the house) you are no longer connected to the grid.

I think most houses have a similar set up. I’m not saying an extra redundant switch wouldn’t help, the more safety precautions the better.

I am going to get a generac hooked up as soon as I have some expendable cash. I have been looking and around here it is about 8K installed. Not counting the propane/natural gas tank it would run on.

I would like it to automatically turn on when power is lost. I’m sure this is a very easy switch/relay/solenoid mechanism. In order to do that, I would want the house to isolate itself automatically as well. Again, I’m sure this is already easily available with these types of set ups.

Even if I never use it, I plan on keeping the house in the family for a while. So it isn’t just for me. Although, I probably will use it eventually.

I am going to wait a little though. I bet the price will go down as the memories of these hurricanes fade.

I think Generac has ran about that price for years now. At least, from what I've been told from buddies that have them.

Most guys I know with them included them in the financing of their home. Not a bad idea if you're having a home built from the ground up. I keep my eyes open for property in the country. My next place will have a Generac from day 1.

I built my house here last year shortly after I retired. I really wish I would have had better foresight, but that is in the past now. Just another task to complete.

I will probably have this conversation with anyone looking to build/buy, especially around here.
