That's really a testament to humans' propensity for cognitive dissonance. There's nothing stopping the religious from advancing science but their religious beliefs are not an assistance in the process.

Like for example, Victorian clergy made plenty of scientific discoveries. But that's not because their doctrine exhorted them to advance mankind's understanding of nature; nor did it provide a reliable basis upon which to do so.

It's because they were wealthy and had time on their hands, so they could do things that interested them.

Also this thread doesn't really prove anything. Yes religiosity correlates to a slightly lower average IQ but being smart =/= being right; additionally there are numerous examples of highly intelligent religious people. I personally think that they are wrong, but IQ tests don't determine that.

I would add that when people bring up names like Gregor Mendel, there are a few things to consider....

Mendel was successful in discovering the mechanism of inheritance (the gene concept) precisely because he was out there observing crosses of pea plants in the scientific manner. Hence the interesting and useful information obtained. This has nothing to do with religion, with maybe the exception of the idle time available like you mention. If he chose to investigate the question religiously, by say consulting some authority or text and deliberating about it endlessly in the Monastery, he would not have done what we did. Luckily, he took the scientific path over the religious method here.

And of course people are products of their times, and upbringings, etc regarding things like religion.

The elephant in the room with this thread, is that IQ in general is a silly concept, and who really cares that much about it anyway, regardless of where the statistical trends lie. The thread played out exactly as you’d expect, with the mindless posts against basic science, and so forth. I would say some in here are definitely not helping the case against the OP, with the understanding that IQ is kinda laughable anyway.
