The entire strategy was wrong to start with. ISAF went in as a security assistance force with the blessing of the UN Security Council, which means your hands are tied in pretty much every respect. The mission objective was to suppress the Taliban while coalition forces trained up a military made up of goat herders, installed a puppet president who had basically no support from the local population and assisted in building infrastructure such as education that basically no one was interested in.

Had the mission been to wipe out the Taliban at all costs, with the same rules of engagement as the enemy, this would have been a done deal many years ago.

The most mindblowing aspect of all this, is that everyone's acting like what we're seeing now wasn't the only possible outcome, regardless of withdrawal strategy. I'm old enough to remember that 20 years ago, everyone already knew a day like this would come. No one believed that you could walk into Afghanistan, fix it and go home. History confirms this. Relative peace in Afghanistan is completely unsustainable unless a multinational coalition stays there forever as an occupying force and dumps their entire defense and foreign aid budgets into it.

It's **** now; why don't people like the Taliban realize what kind of value they are held at? Don't they understand that they are not sexy? What do they have they think people should want ... what is the point of gaining power if no one wanted it for themselves? It's not respect they get but a deep loathing and fear ... don't they realize that? They just like to play in-charge and enjoy how the office feels, not to put it to good use; it's not sexy. They wanted it so badly they got it this fast and it's frankly pathetic. Group think makes you stupid sometimes, it can be like a madness. I feel bad for them and how unimportant they are to me unless they do something mean and stupid. It's just not sexy and it's how they get my attention, which they seem to love even though I don't like them, but they want it ... they live, conspire and die for the notoriety, nothing seems better, not even World of Warcraft. By the way I never played that game, is it any good? I think the Taliban should play it since they are good at raiding. And they would have to keep the internet up to play, that's a plus for Afghans. Maybe someone can convince them to westernize under the guise of something else and trick them into being more democratic. All you would need is influence and smarts to be that devious and for a great cause. It's tempting, the west, and a little glitter spilled intentionally over the label might dazzle their eye. If you can't change them from outside or get rid of them, change them from within and sabotage their inner workings, Jeff. You're doing them a favor, the group thinking made them go crazy. It's dangerous work but the CIA is good at doing things, they do lots of things. Join the CIA, Jeff, if your grades are good enough. Join them and end this 20 year war on terror by eliminating the terrorist in the terrorist.

So how did the Taliban take over so quickly? Do they have the support of the Afghan people or something? From what I've seen it looks like only the Afghan special forces and local militias put up any fight against them. Mind blown that the rest of their military forces just surrendered.

1) Had guest personnel from afghanistan in military. Totally useless fağgots. They also stole money from us once.

2) One of the riders in the horse club I used to went was from afghanistan. He was a nice kid but he was an Uzbek (minority in afghanistan), Uzbeks are usually fine.

3) There were afghan dudes staying in the apartment I stayed in Germany. Half of them were selling weed and one of them got picked up by a police for raping a little girl (thankfully he couldnt)

4) Lately an afghan in here smashed a 16 yo girls head with stone after he couldnt rape her. Huge outrage happened

5) My friend in the police force told me they pick up about 5 afghans daily and he doesnt even work in a crowded street

I agree weak leadership for sure, and I get that the Taliban have a religious cause to fight for, but damn the Afghan military supposedly had 180,000 active soldiers. Plus they even had a small air force, did they even deploy them? lol. It makes me think that maybe the Afghan people want this.

Strong reading comprehension is strong. I never suggested we take over the world. Merely that if we ARE going to engage in an armed conflict, then we need to allow our military to use all of the assets at it's disposal to end the conflict quickly, in spectacularly brutal fashion, with minimal US casualties. We have become the butt of a bad joke (and somewhat rightfully so) after getting our asses handed to us in Vietnam then and Afghanistan/the mid East in general now, when our military could and should be known as the most dominant fighting force the world has ever seen.
