You should do him a favor OP and urge him to go to a skilled nursing facility before going home. Yes, they suck - I'm not going to pretend like it's some kind of vacation destination, BUT it is really not possible to get into one once you leave the hospital. And then the only way to get back in is when you go to the hospital again because you started to go to **** when you couldn't take care of yourself at home. I see it all the time.

My dad's Italian and the same way. If it wasn't for my mother forcing him to get chit checked out he probably would never even touch a doctor. It's a weird mentality, but definitely common among those with italian heritage.

BAD NEWS UPDATE:

"Just spoke with Augie, it does not look like he is going home tomorrow. Just to give a quick heads up, he may have a blood clot, embolism, or fluid on the lungs which caused him to need a breathing tube today in his nose. He said he is feeling OK overall but he was caught off guard with the news being he was walking in the hallway. What's everyone's schedule like tomorrow to see who can get there at what time to see what's happening?"

A "breathing tube in his nose" could just be a simple nasal cannula or whatever they call it, not an actual breathing tube

Good luck Misc brah. Haven't read through the whole thing but make sure you've said anything you want to say to him. Don't want any regrets if it doesn't go well. Sounds like a tough fukker though so hopefully will be OK.

My grandmother just got diagnosed with lung cancer/fibrosis last month after smoking for 52 years too. She quit 21 years ago but it caught up I guess.

Crazy how resilient a person's lungs can be.
