They’re sick and tired of vigil and moments of silence for family, friends, classmates, coworkers,” Schumer argued on the Senate floor. The assault weapons ban, originally sponsored by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), would ban semiautomatic rifles with pistol grips, forward grips and folding or telescoping stocks, as well as rifles outfitted with grenade launchers, barrel shrouds or threaded barrels to allow for noise and flash suppressors to be attached.

No, because it isn't a new phenomenon-Charles Whitman was the 1960's. The problem lies in the mindset of guns being a right rather than a privilege & the gun culture from cradle to grave. Other countries have these pharma meds & large numbers of guns-but don't have the problem. The issue is that even people on terror watch lists can buy guns & ammo legally & you have these end of the world, hate all authority groups looking for an uprising, whose mantra is take my guns from over my dead body that target police. No way can you get their guns & explosives stockpiles away, or get them to accept any compromise.

Of course it isn't about getting guns away-it is about the stockpiling of them, people who shouldn't be anywhere near a gun getting them & limits on the types of guns people can have. Even with all out rules here in the UK-lengthy police form filling & interviews, police visiting people's homes, establishing why they think they need guns & justifying needing them, getting character references & doctors reports, we still get them from time to time & there is zero gun or hunting culture here among the general public.

They would, as I said here it is knives-but a knife or handgun rampage can be stopped. Unless the cops or citizens carrying around similar weapons get involved you cannot. Banning guns is a pointless task-they don't even do that here where most of the public have zero interest in them & detest them. But there have to be restrictions on what you can have & who can have them. If I moved to the US I would want at least a handgun for protection-which is a scary thought for Brits.
