I’ll be keen to see what we get for a first hike of the year. Im fairly positive we get a 50 BP hike. Market strength will give Powell the easy choice to keep going.

Edit: assuming he makes it lmao

25 BPS hike for Feb is 99% lock

two more hikes at 25BPS after that than fed pause.

if Fed does 50BPS next meeting or any meeting after.

market is crashing. (99.9999 percent this is lock / market can't handle 50 bps at any point from now)

stock market has priced in 3 rate cuts by end of the year. hence why we hanging here at 4000 level.

they expect fed fund rates at 3.5% by end of year.

If the Fed starts cutting rates by the end of this year it will be because the economic situation becomes dire, and I don't think that will be good for the market as earnings would be compressing hard and then trying to price in multiple expansion with the lower interest rates

We've never had a market bottom while rates were going up. Maybe they thread the needle and we get a soft landing, but I'd be surprised.

Market and Fed are not in sync so the truth is somewhere well who really knows. Someone is wrong.

Yeah you're right if Fed is cutting by end of year means exactly that economy is in big trouble.

Yeah you're right if Fed is cutting by end of year means exactly that economy is in big trouble.
They plan to hike and hold and watch inflation come down below the rate, economy cratering is what would change their course right

Share price is a combination of earnings and multiple, earnings being reported EPS and multiple based on interest rates aka financial gravity

Economy contracts, earnings (EPS) decrease
When earnings decrease, the market staying steady or going up would depend on the Fed cutting interest rates at a pace quick enough to expand multiples and offset the reduced earnings

So you see earnings contract as higher interest rates cool the economy, and then the Fed starts cutting rates to warm things up again. A “soft landing” in my mind is perfectly balancing the earnings contraction with higher multiples resulting in markets not declining.

Doesn’t happen though or at least it hasn’t before, the market dives as interest rates are cut to stimulate the economy that is suffering lagged effects from the rates that were recently higher and that reduced earnings. And there is a lag between rate cuts and earnings coming back up, thus the market bottoms.

Maybe the market is just that much smarter and quicker these days but I wouldn’t bet on it myself.

We are getting at least 2 rate cuts this year.

Rate cuts this year will very likely not mean good things for the market.

It'll be great for consumers though, we'll end up with prices coming down and discounts all over the place plus lower interest rates. I'm loving seeing all the discounts on Amazon etc lately.
