I have no problem with free market alternatives, but you fools who think that consolidating power in the hands of the state is doing ANYTHING other than directly harming liberty should learn to think before you spout silly dogma.

Instead of this corrupt, political hegemony we could have a polycentric legal system operating through insurance, security, arbitration, and "karma ratings". But no, because without big daddy govt's cock up our ass somebody else could come along and butt**** us without that added layer of "protection".

Also a lawful traffic stop is considered a temporary arrest as you are not free to leave and you shall identify.

Metaphorically, yes. I was charged and even convicted of a crime I never committed because an officer of the peace committed perjury and submitted a false report. Everybody thinks it can't happen to them until it does. Now I try to make sure it doesn't happen to others. This is something known as firsthand experience, something you don't have, which explains your naivety. Again, you're welcome.

But does this include the contents of your vehicle?

I'm sure you can still deny your vehicle getting searched unless he has some sort of probably cause

No, you must either give consent or the police have to have probable cause to search. In Texas there is only 2 violations you cannot be arrested for, speeding and open container. Not sure about OP home state but he could have been arrested for the brake light and the officer could have done a vehicle search incident to arrest.

Be wary of copblock. That group is lead by a bunch of angry people that do little to no research on the information they receive. Often I have found things they are posting and reporting on to be total bull**** and inaccurate. Because they have an agenda, they will pretty much do anything to make any event out to be the officer's fault, even if that means straight up lying.

I have worked with PD as a paramedic. I have learned that you have to take each person and case completely separate. There are some officers that I disliked working with. THey had bad attitudes, would escalate a situation after I JUST deescalated it, and are just not polite when they should be. Then there were many, many officers that I had confidence in at every scene. When they showed up, it put me at ease and I knew that were not only safe, but that they were very good at handling bad situations. This is why sometimes you will see me standing behind an officer 100%, or I can just as easily stand against them if they made a bad decision. It seems every time I stand up for an officer though, more and more people every year call me out on it. It's a sign we are going in the wrong direction.

That's what I thought, as long as you don't give them a reason to search your car it should be easy for a citizen to deny a search.

State laws will vary, but your car is the second most protected place next to your house.

Gotta know them state laws, like the smell of ganja is not considered grounds for probable cause in AZ anymore, that was recently decided.

Brah I have been pulled over multiple times, with a good amount of chit I shouldn't of had on me, and I have never been searched.

I have seen people protect themselves from being searched by knowing their rights.

But I do realize, if a cop has a hard on for you he can fuark with your life if he really wants to, that's why I am polite as possible to police.

It's extremely rare to win over a cop on the street, especially a very agro one.

Just play nice, but know your rights. Then weigh out how much time you want to waste.

If asked to step out of the car, step out.
If asked to search your car, say "NO" if you want to spend a least a couple hours there. Say "Yes" if you are in a hurry.
If frisked, just mention you don't consent to it if you want to piss him off more. Say nothing to speed things along.
If handcuffed, do NOT resist.
Always keep a calm and happy demeanor. Make polite conversation if he is just standing there wasting your time. "How is your day going? Did you catch last nite's game?" Try to DE-ESCALATE. Bad cops will try to escalate.

Cops really don't give a rat's ass about your civil rights. They don't care that you are being humiliated. Some may actually enjoy it. A lot are trained to see the general population as stupid and criminals waiting at every turn to kill or disrespect a cop.

Suck it up. If you feel your rights were violated, let him violate you, get his name, date/time, and call your local ACLU. You can also try to file a grievance but the thin blue line and all.

my old co-worker got pulled over for the same thing- his car matched the description of a stolen vehicle.


but.... the cops rolled up, and pulled their guns out. told him to step out of the car over the intercom with his back turned, and his hands up. it didn't help that he's a black guy.

Look like fear deal to me. He didn't give you ticket like compensation for terrorising you for a while. Once I drive without insuriance and get flase ticket from cop. In behind room at court they say me "Ok ticket is wrong but admit that ticket is ok and we will not punish you for driving without insurance if you have proof now". It is how tings work.
