Powerlifting in the 90s and early 2000s was all in gear. At that time, more gear was better too so we're talking squat briefs and multiply suits. Raw lifting wasn't even a thing then
If he was powerlifting then in the heavier weight classes, 1000 pound geared squats weren't really uncommon. It likely wasn't any sort of national record and went largely unnoticed because lifting wasn't as popular on the internet as it is now. If there was a video of it, its likely not even digital.
This isn't as insane as you guys are making it seem and not all that unbelievable

In the late 90s I got a serious blood clot in my leg, I think from working out too much and being dehydrated, then sitting on a crappy office chair that cut my circulation off. Anyway, that created horrible leg issues where I could barely walk at times. I was suffering in pain that was terrible and had to work and go to school at the same time. During one terrible flareup where I was missing work, could barely work, this inmate at the prison asked me what was wrong.
I told him and he said that you need to start doing squats to get the blood flow back and force small veins to open. I liked him a lot and the way in which he said it, like he really cared about me, made me want to do it. So, I got back into doing legs a lot and found that I had amazing squat potential. A good number of years after that I did my max squat in a gym in Philly.
I stopped squatting so heavy because one time in my apartment building, which has a gym, I was repping like 600 and then left the gym. My legs gave out and I fell down the stairs. While falling I thought, this is ridiculous and I need to stop. Then I got into squatting about 300 just to maintain.
That is the story!

You're right though, a multiply squat suit in a heavier weight class with questionable depth makes a 1k squat more feasible. The only problem is that this guy leaves out relevant details and instead drivels on about how the staff called him superman, collecting every plate in the gym, his prison buddy who also squats, ect...
Regardless of the plausibility of his claims when taking into account the factors you mentioned, I think it's abundantly clear there's a few loose screws.
Edit: look at his response to you above, it perfectly illustrates what I'm saying. He ignores the relevant details and points from your post and then makes up some wild story. The guy has some serious mental disconnects, I've never seen anyone with a sound mind respond the way he does.

I'm still not impressed by it.
At the time, I'd rather have not been fat because no one cares how strong you are, you just get judged by how you look. I much prefer the shape I'm in now. Women and everyone else prefer it.

I have a very good friend who has been involved in powerlifting and strongman since the 80s. He has lived in the Philadelphia area all his life. PM me your name and the gym you lifted at. Shouldn't be hard to verify your claims. Lifts like that wouldn't go unnoticed in a niche community like this. I have enough contacts in powerlifting if he doesn't know you
I'm not going to blow you up either. Your identity is safe with me

At the time, I was working as a psychologist at a state prison. All the inmates felt sorry for me because I was very nice to them and typically very funny and helpful.
One inmate who was an office worker of mine was also a hitman. The two of us got along great and I thought of him as my brother. I'm a white guy and he was a 275 pound black guy who was all muscle. He started insisting that I go to the gym and do squats!
I was like, okay, okay, and couldn't picture doing them. But, he gave me a whole speech about how it would improve my circulation and improve my legs.
I started doing them, and although I was an advanced lifter I could only do 128 pounds. My legs were jelly and I almost could walk to my car, but I kept at it.Over a couple years I improved so much that I was able to squat 1000 pounds on a lever squat machine. My legs improved massively and now I do German Volume Training and squat 300 10x10 if I'm going heavy.

On a funny note, I didn't know that he was a competitor and actually had a convo with him on how he could lose fat with a HIIT program. I felt like a jerk after I found out who he was.
I used to lift with a local DA and a bunch of cops.

My buddy Preston was in Sports Illustrated, as I've said. He was always so nice to me and very encouraging.
If there is a god I have prayed that he be forgiven and go to heaven. As I've said, he inspired me to rehab my legs through squats when no doctor offered any help.
"Darryl (Smash) Ford, who's serving a life sentence for first-degree murder, and Preston (the General) Ryan put more weight on the bar for the Beetle. Ryan, who's missing a front tooth and is serving 12 to 30 years for murder and aggravated assault, is a huge man who competes in the 275-pound class. He says that he's addicted to powerlifting: "I have no choice. I can't stop. Like those runners you hear about."
http://www.si.com/vault/1988/10/17/1...-pass-the-time
Preston hated cops but lost his front tooth in a fist fight with a state trooper. That's the cop that finally caught him.
He was a very intelligent man. His dad was an engineer in the 50s, he was black, so that was amazing. His dad was so smart he was like autistic. He paid no attention to Preston, Preston developed an anitsocial personality due to his feeling bizarrely unlucky for being black, was super lonely, then taken in by an Italian crime family. His version of love was to do whatever they wanted. Which of course led him to murder people, other criminals, which ruined his life.

"My Squat Story:
Years ago, i got a blood clot in my leg and couple barely walk, was in extreme pain due to the veins in my legs being ruined, and was totally depressed because I loved to lift and run. I could barely take care of myself now and felt like I was going to die shopping for food it was so painful to walk.
So, my message is, if you're healthy, enjoy it and work your body. It will improve as long as you put the time in, eat well, and discipline yourself to reach your goals.

Are you okay in the head? You're a broken record with the same few stories on repeat here, on Reddit, and probably elsewhere.
You're an interesting character, but not for the reasons you probably think you're interesting for.

The powerlifters who look like chit is because of their diet I have seen videos of powerlifters eating candy while training then heading to MacDonalds for the postworkout meal, if you do this everyday of course you will look like chit.
