I would have done the exact same thing if I had a partner being a slacker

She's not wrong.

It would have been smart of you to let her know that you feel you have the method down, that's why you're not showing up to the last few others but you'll be prepared. Letting someone know your plans helps a lot.

Since that's in the past, what you could do now is tell her that you totally understand why she chose to do that, let her know it's your fault for not telling her what you were up to, and then tell her you actually felt prepared and only skipped the last two to avoid wasted time. Ask if she'll consider re-joining you on your team. Can't fault her for looking after herself.

OP isn’t obliged to go to class. She isn’t obliged to stick with him though. If you don’t show up to class you can’t whine if the partner decides she wants someone that isn’t a no show.

OP chose his path and he should also be fine with any consequences that his chosen path produced. Can’t be butthurt because she wanted a partner that went to class.

And I understand why she did it that way: she didn’t want to be confrontational and it isn’t her responsibility to track OP down or force him to go to class. She isn’t his babysitter. Nor is she required to assume that him not showing up is because he knows the material. If my partner didn’t show up, I would assume something is up or he/she is a deadbeat. I’m not giving him/her the benefit of the doubt in any case.

Attendance being voluntary is moot here. She saw he was nowhere to be seen and went to the professor.

If OP attended every lecture and she blindsided him with a partner change, then I would understand his anger.
OP wanted to slack with impunity. He chose his path, and she chose hers. Case closed.

It helps you further by showing you're an active participant and not forcing your partner to drop you for someone who is actually committed and ultimately not putting you in your current position. You appear to lack foresight, what would you do if your partner never turned up?

It's a completely invalid argument that I didn't get to "learn from other people debating" because half of the groups before us didn't get to do that because A) they had to go first and B) it didn't matter anyways because the debate process is very straightforward
This thread is silly. OP is just as wrong as her. He thinks it’s unreasonable that she called the cops on him and she thought it was unreasonable you missed a week and a half without reaching out. That’s life kid.

You’ll learn this when you get older but EQ is one of the most important skills to learn. You should have just started contact whenever you found out you were partners (which you still didn’t fill us in on), especially if you were going to ghost the next class, much less then next three.

Think bigger picture man. The reason to go to class was to not lose your partner, not to look at other debates. You’re thinking about this all wrong. Show some leadership.

You’re arguing with a bunch of people on the internet and calling them names because a miscommunication that you always need to assume you could have prevented happened.

Take it as a learning experience and believe that everything you did that lead you to make an Internet thread complaining about your partner was preventative and next time find whatever the solution is.

- I’ve missed the last 3 class periods because all we’re doing is watching other students debate. I saw the first 2 days of debating so i understand how the process works which is actually pretty straightforward. No point in going at all to watch more students debate, professor doesn’t even count attendance.

- my debate was next week and asked my partner when we could meet to start practicing and she sends me this:

Probably going to have to drop the class now. Should I send back something savage or just leave it?
She didnt screw you over. You expected a complete stranger to trust you when you didnt even goto class. Its on you and you only.

I would have dropped your ass too. Some guy who pays $500 for a class and doesn't show up? Why would I gamble my grade with somebody like that when I could switch to a partner who at least looks like they care about their grades.

You should have texted her first to tell her you're still good to go with the debate.

She should have texted you first before going to the teacher.

Communication is important. Lesson learned. Get a new partner or do the debate yourself.

You probably should have texted her saying you're ready although not attending other debates. But she definetly should not have got a new partner without texting to see if you're still engaged in the debate. Your first issue was partnering up with a whale. Not much you can do now besides finding a new partner and just doing the debate.

Good luck with the debate, keep misc updated.

The people who are grilling OP for not showing up are taking it to the extreme. You guys need to calm the fuk down. The presentations weren't mandatory to be at, it was used as a guidance on what the whole process would look like, besides it's not like he completely neglected them, he went to two.

What ever happened to talking to one another? Don't just assume the worst from people and fuk them over behind their back. Why would you wanna bury your partner into the ground without at least hearing them out? OP should have communicated better from the get go, yes, we all know that..but did she really have to go straight to the professor and fuk this guy over? She deliberately wanted to punish op

OP, if the class is just spent watching others debate, couldn't you have just gone and just relaxed? Unless you have to take notes, then sit back and daydream about Zyzz or something. It's not rocket science.

At least you're physically there; and you look like you care without actually caring.

OP messaged his partner a week before to ask when they're goingstartpracticing, and these presentations were going on for a while. Meanwhile his partner didn't even see him in class.
If my partner didn't show up for 3 classes straight and didn't text me at all to start the assignment I'd assume they dropped the course. To be fair I'd probably send them a text first to ask them if they want to practice before that, but once you get screwed over by lazy partners enough you just stop giving a chit.

this. why do you need a partner for a debate class anyway.

Say something about you having different viewpoints and couldnt come to a mutual agreement in how to structure your arguements (assuming your actually doing a debate here) and her "he missed class" was simply an excuse to try and find a partner who better aligned with her
