Had a cousin who recently honeymooned in Cancun apparently get jumped by some off duty cops after he decided to have some beers by himself at a bar off resort. Long story short, they brought him back to his hotel and the staff denied confirming he was staying there, so the assailants took him away and next thing he knew, my cousin woke up on the beach in the morning. Oddly enough they didn't take his phone, only his cash.

Mexico should intentionally create an Orwellian state and let the US run all the embedded chip, cameras, facial recognition etc. If done right to create “safe zones” it could dramatically boost income.

Ive already said it but ill say it again. Its not safe and yes ive been to mexico city. I met people who knew people that had been kidnapped and never found. In many of the cases no body is ever found and you dont know how they died but you can make some assumptions. The people making it out to be safe are being blinded by not seeing up close how bad a situation you can get in.

Lol enjoy, you will be fine boyo.

Dont do stupid **** and be respectful. There will be no problems if you stayon tourist zone (dont go exploring the sketchy areas and dont ever think of venturing on roads you dont know by yourself)

Highly recommend Mazatlan, it's honestly the best place in Mexico that i've been to so far srs. (Lots of Americans and Canadians live there) i rented a house on Airbnb in Mazatlan, the name is "Azul Pacifico" Highly recomend it.
Los Mochis, Sinaloa is also really nice. I drive from California to Sinaloa every year in March for vacations, so far no bad experiences. srs (my fam is from Sinaloa)

Mexico City is a must to visit as you mentioned. It's best to stay in neighborhoods like Condesa, Roma or Polanco for safety reasons. Be sure not to flaunt expensive items while exploring the city. Oaxaca has beautiful colonial architecture along with great food and mezcal – it has a very charming vibe. Playa del Carmen and Tulum on the Yucatan coast are known for their beaches, Mayan ruins and stunning cenote sinkholes. While very touristy, the areas are still lovely to visit. San Miguel de Allende has a brightly colored and European aesthetic that gives it a charming and artsy feel. Puerto Escondido offers epic surf breaks along with a laidback hippie vibe, though it is more remote than other destinations. Merida is considered the cultural capital of the Yucatan with beautiful Spanish architecture. Chiapas features incredible Mayan ruins at sites like Palenque and the colonial town of San Cristobal de las Casas. Finally, hit west coast beach towns like Sayulita or Punta Mita for a more chilled experience. My general tips would be to book affordable eats at Chedraui supermarkets, rent cars only when necessary, avoid flashing expensive items, trust your instincts, and don't get too intoxicated in unfamiliar areas or you could try contacting a local guidehttps://gowithguide.com/try checking out here. it's more safer than going alone by yourself.
