Nah I'm really just bringing up a broader topic for discussion, mainly because I know people who are Nuclear-energy alarmists and it seems like a relatively common view that Nuclear is too dangerous and we shouldn't be messing with it. Not only because of Chernobyl but Fukushima


Also been doing some research after watching the first couple episodes of this show and find this crap interesting af

Chernobyl makes sense, since most Soviet things in the 80's were pure dogchit. It was a crumbling regime held together with gum and tape. Fukushima is concerning because it was relatively recent and happened in one of the most technologically advanced (and disciplined) societies on the planet. Obviously every accident is a perfect storm of circumstances and human errors, but how do you bet against human stupidity? Maybe someday AI will run these things autonomously with 100% perfect decision making. Maybe.

This show is 10/10, so fascinating and well done. I'd hire this Craig Mazin guy (creator, producer) if I was a big wig in Hollywood. If this was a movie it'd win the Oscar hands down.

Didn’t the tsunami set off Fukushima?

Even with the best intentions I think any new plant needs to guarantee against things like quakes and cyclones.

I live on an island in the pacific and I’m concerned about some facts previously mentioned in the thread regarding higher radiation levels.

There was also an article on one of our mainstream rag websites about the Marshall Islands and how the nuclear seal is failing.

I think my only concern would be nuclear waste. There's so many safety protocols in place I don't think this can come close to happening again.

great show. Only thing that irritates me are the British accents calling each other "comrade". Having it in Russian or English with Russian accents would of been better imo. But the show itself is great.

You are watching a mini series about pure negligence on the part of the Russians. The Japanese also got screwed by a worst case scenario natural disaster being an island nation. As mentioned previously, the US was already ahead on precautionary measures and implemented additional measure after the Fukushima disaster. The only thing I would be scared of is a possible terrorist attack on a facility.

Crazy to think how long ago these plants were built as well. Fukushima was commissioned in 1971, Chernobyl in 1977

Dunno about other countries, but here in the US nuclear plants have their own sort of paramilitary security. I know this because I used to know a guy who worked at one.. They are also subject to random "testing" by actual military special operations teams acting as terrorists.

I wouldn't mind if the show was spoken in Russian and we were given subtitles, but I doubt the acting would be nearly as good with Russian actors nor would the show be as popular as it is.
