It was a simple test to see if he was telling the truth. You live there? Say your number, but if you dont live there and just faking it thats the easiest way to tell someone is lying. And he didnt say an apartment.
So doesnt matter what happened from then on because he was suspicious for not answering that.

The problem comes when the left and the right get entrenched in their respective "police officers are evil tools of white privilege utilized to kill people of color" and "no police officer has ever done anything wrong ever." Police departments are made up of human beings and human beings are capable of terrible things. I wish there was a way to completely prevent that, and I think when instances of impropriety or even murder take place we have to address that. In the mean time, the best way to handle this type of situation is to comply then file grievances with the appropriate party.

Colorado has stop and identify laws. Looks like he gave him a student ID and idk if that's sufficient for a cop.

Clearly the student ID wasn't enough for this guy lol.

Depending on the outcome he may come out the big winner. The cop has resigned, according to OPs second post, and he may be getting off free. If he'd obeyed it is possible that nothing would have happened and a similar situation would have occurred at a later date. This cop took it to far and has terrible de-escalation skills.

I am shocked at how delusional and out of touch so many miscers are in so many respects—especially with law enforcement. That is a good officer and it is a shame he had to resign because of scum, fools, and the trash.

Why are libertarians "batchit"? I mean Ron and Rand Paul were, but what specifically about Libertarianism as a whole is batchit? It seems more in line with American political philosophy than any other ideology tbh.

Good cops should have all the initiative they need to enforce laws and keep scum off the streets.
They are a burden to control already and not something that should be given more rightsz
That’s why people can’t have guns in big cities for example because they can’t be controlled enough to keep the peace because they are failures of society.
Fukups and trash people who don’t respect the law or our countries police don’t deserve freedom and respect because they are not responsible enough to enjoy freedom properly and abuse it.
If we find out cops aren’t doing their job in the correct spirit we should replace them too with ones who have the right attitude. But within law let them have the power to control what needs to be controlled.

We already incarcerate too many people as it is. As of right now, the US has the highest incarceration rate out of any country. Let that sink in.

Grown adults who choose to willingly break the laws are technically not welcome in society and should find a place outside of America to practice their lifestyle.

Laws and by extension cops are REACTIVE, not proactive. You cant stop someone from committing a crime unless you cross into the realm of tyranny (generally speaking it does happen) or else there would be far less crime already.

As for the people I get sick to my stomach seeing repubs/conservatives backing a police state all in the name of fighting liberals or just being contrarian to them. Libs are 'against' police so repubs are 'for' police. Likewise repubs are 'for' smaller govt while backing the police state and contradicting themselves.

If the majority of us think killing is wrong, we make a law saying you can’t do that, and then hire enforcers to enforce the law via threat of assured punishment, then that’s the law and if you break it you are no longer welcome and we confine you to a jail cell or extradite out of the country.
If you don’t obey the law you’re out. Not welcome, no rights.
As per the majority rule agreeing that killing is wrong or that set rule is law.
That’s the setup, if you don’t agree you’re welcome to leave the country or convince the majority and lawmakers that your idea is a smart one and have a good reason to change one law or another.
But the majority wants peace not anarchy so the only option is to obey the law or go to jail.
If you don’t want anyone to have power over you go find N island somewhere.
Otherwise submit to reasonable authority of the greatest most fair laws in any country on earth.

Also you dont lose youre rights in jail moron. Not all of them at least, thats not the point of jail/prison. Also citizens dont get 'banished' or extradited out, dont know what ultra authoritarian fantasy you live in.
Sounds like you would be right at home in any socialist country comrade.
P.S. No one is saying there shouldn't be any cops. So calm down with your bull****. More untrained, and poorly educated cops and the further militarization of cops, along with the erosion of our civil rights = authoritarian police state.

Criminals have too many loopholes already we need to close some of them.
Not having ID or being known or not having a valid place of residence is how criminals thrive.
The less you can do without an ID the better because illegals are less comfortable operating under away from the eye of the law and it makes corruption less ideal.
Everyone should be open to share ID unless they are hiding illegality or criminal lifestyle or identity fraud or something. What would a peaceful person have against showing an ID.
And police are taught not to use their power to do so unless there’s valid cause to think they are dealing with people who don’t respect the law, again who technically aren’t really welcome to walk the streets of our society.

Illegal immigrants are a separate issue. I still would rather not have it where every nonwhite citizen is routinely questioned to prove his right to be here under suspicion of being illegal.
Forgive me for not having faith in police training, and instead choosing to err on the side of liberty as the authors of our constitution intended. Police who abuse their authority and openly threaten the liberty of law abiding citizens are not welcome to walk the streets of our society.
