I've read a number of philosophers, mainly the classics.
That said, I find Nietzsche's ideas to be the most intriguing.

Mainly because Nietzsche correctly analyses everything.
He analysed the Western moral foundation (Judeochristianity), exposed its inadequacy, and explained correctly what would happen to the West and most importantly the Western mind, in the post-Christian age (liberalism, nihilism, new pseudo religions). I might be wrong but to me he was the only philosopher who correctly foresaw the Western future, and tackled the task of offering a pathway for the Western man.

I've also been interested by Buddhism, and though I fundamentally agree with their analysis of the universe, I disagree with their conclusions and way of life.
I prefer the Nietzschean idea of humanity trying to transcend its moral decadence and striving to attain an overman status by forging new morals.
The Nietzschean idea of transcending horrible suffering and pain to reach an extremely strong state of mind and body appeal to my soul.

I'm also intrigued by the protestant Christian Anglo American philosophy and how they took Christianity and made it more of a way of life to strive for than a religion per se (like the Amish).

When I was nineteen I took a Philosophy 101 class and I was fascinated Plato's writings. I read The Republic and I never forgot the stories in it. I've read a few of the stories over and over since then (like The Apology), and always gain something from it. I think it's always important to remember that there is so much out there that you/I don't know about, so it's important to be flexible.

As I got older, I was drawn to Existential philosophy, namely Nietzsche and Dostoevsky (Nietzsche in particular). I was obsessed with reading Nietzsche, Jung, Sartre, Kierkegaard and others for a few years. The biggest lesson from Existential philosophy is that we create our own reality. We get to choose. We may not get to choose what is done to us, but we certainly get to choose how we respond.

honestly.. though. youre constantly in philosophy type threads and constantly chitting on it. but what i was thinking about was how ground breaking people are usually considered crazy up until they aren't.

mathematics doesn't really exist in that realm does it. it's not pontificating or ground breaking on anything is it? after all, something has to exist in order to quantify it
