They don't have enough fat for good bacon. That said they aren't terrible eating but aren't as good as domesticated pig. They have a gamey flavor about them that is tougher to get out than say venison. The best way to cook em is low and slow

I have a different experience. Extremely lean, but did not have a gamey flavor at all. Thought it would. Maybe it's regional or based on diet. I roasted and smoked feral hogs and all were amazing.

Probably a little bit of both. The hogs I've eaten have all come from a very swampy area. I honestly don't know what they eat but it must be underground with the way they root everything up

Last year I shot a monster swamp sow twice with a .357 and it was still on its feet looking to whoop some ass.

Yeah. The one in the pic was about 100. I wouldn't touch the big nasty older ones.

My wife and I like to buy wild bore sausage from a cool shop that basically consigns from hunters. It’s mixed with some other fat obviously but not gamy at all and has a really rich flavor. Delicious - plus we get to help thin an awful herd.

Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit softly.
