I thought we shouldn’t interfere with what business choose to do?

Nevertheless, GS wouldn’t be doing this unless there was some benefit to them. It’s pretty clear what’s going on—Historically, companies who decide to go public often hire executives from other places. The old-timers tend to be old and white. What GS is doing is incentivizing these companies to give others their first big break. GS benefits later on from secondary PO’s and make a lifelong customer of any businesses those new execs take charge of.

So fuking what? People can say whatever they please. What does an old person saying mean words have to do with a board being all white or not? I'm not worried of 70+ year old men, even if they are racist, they'll be dead soon. The fact that you still have 30 more years of stupidity to live out worries me more.

Is that so. And here I thought coaching performance could be tracked through a coach's career. But today I found out coaching for multi billion dollar sports clubs is just given out to whoever the owner likes.

There is no way in hell you're in any sort of finance. You don't have the intellectual acuity.

Prohibited Employment Policies/Practices

Under the laws enforced by EEOC, it is illegal to discriminate against someone (applicant or employee) because of that person's race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.

https://www1.eeoc.gov//laws/practice...nderforprint=1

The entire United States is covered by the Federal Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination by privately owned places of public accommodation on the basis of race, color, religion or national origin. Places of “public accommodation” include hotels, restaurants, theaters, banks, health clubs and stores.

Right, but the benefit is not financial. It is social.

Oh, because you said it is, I’ve changed my mind.

Sure there might be a “social” benefit. But it exists to make money, and will have all decisions with this in mind. You cannot be this naive.

FDIC insures depositors - meaning consumer (and corporate) banking. Therefore, yes, Goldman Sachs' consumer banking is covered by this.

However, an investment bank, like Goldman Sachs' investment banking division, is not a place of public accommodation. It is a straight business-business transaction--company sells offering shares to GS, who in turn launches the IPO. Make sense?

You people really no nothing about the purpose of a corporate board do you? Boards aren’t meant to be made up completely with experts in that particular field, boards should be well rounded and include legal, finance, and community representation.

So yes, the rap label should have a diverse board too if they want to get input from all their potential customers.

Why are you arguing with me? Boards of made up of lots of people without a direct knowledge of the company or even industry. From my good ol' hometown newspaper.

When T. Rowe Price Group looked to add a director to its board last month, the Baltimore money manager chose someone with widespread name recognition: former Sen. Olympia J. Snowe of Maine.

"Earlier this year, Price added another notable figure to its board: Freeman A. Hrabowski III, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, whom Time magazine named last year as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Ads by Teads

ADVERTISING
Price is by no means alone in appointing high-profile or so-called celebrity directors. Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney rejoined the board of Bethesda-based Marriott International after his defeat in the November election. The board of Exelon Corp., parent of Baltimore Gas and Electric Co., includes an admiral and former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge. And several Maryland corporate boards have retired military brass.

Corporate governance experts say such celebrity directors can be highly beneficial, raising a company's profile and even its stock price. "

I believe more diverse boards are a good thing.

I read some studies on women's quotas in Germany though, that were pretty shocking. The boards actually became less diverse and it actually became harder for women to become directors.

Why? The COOs kept just promoting their wife, daughter or sister to fill these quotas, essentially giving himself two voices and doubling his own household income.
It actually became harder for women to reach those position through hard work. Now these results may change in decades, but it seems nepotism actually gets strengthened through quotas.
