Pretty sus draft by Francis. It's clear the priority was to head into UFA loaded with room but lots of missed opportunities... no Bean or Domi? No deals for taking big cap hits like Eberle and Gourde? Taking AHL players over solid depth choices? Right now Seattle looks like Ottawa did after the team got blown up.

From what I've heard from members of the CAR org (I know a couple of them), Bean is a complete chit head personality wise. Haydn Fleury was a Francis draft pick, and from what I've heard, Fleury doesn't really care about becoming an elite player and just does it for the paycheck.

Outside of Goaltender, they need a LOT of work. Aside from Eberle, they havenothingupfront.
This will not be VGK 2.0. They'll be a bottom 5-10 team unless they sign some big time talent in FA.

they had a handful of really weird picks but for the most part made the right choices. did even better than vegas at the time of their expansion draft IMO
outside of eberle upfront they have gourde, mccann, jarnkrok, donskoi, appleton who are all solid players. not super flashy but effective. geekie and true could also turn out to be decent
then on D they have giordano, dunn, oleksiak and larsson which is solid
there's a few players that could potentially pull a marchessault/karlsson or theodore and take off with a bigger role. mccann and dunn are obvious choices but who knows who else could do something. i think appleton could really impress since i've seen a lot of him.
guarantee they finish higher than the jets

and unlike the Knights they really don't have any forwards who had broken out or were on the upswing... on one hand there was Karlsson/R. Smith/Marchisseault/Tuch. Kraken has... Appleton, and that's a stretch? think that's the biggest problem by far, Kraken just don't have young forwards who just broke out or are about to. that was in part due to GM's learning their lesson but all that cap space Francis saved is only good if the UFAs he's targeting actually want to come to Seattle.
or maybe the game plan is to use cap to take on bloated contracts for picks, trade the original players away for value and build thru the entry draft. idk.

also, helle did not have a rough season at all. he was actually extremely good.. not far off from his vezina season last year. no idea how he wasn't nominated again. he was legitimately the only reason they made the playoffs this year. with a league average goalie they finish bottom 5 in the league no doubt about it
also also, wheeler is not a solid player. guy is a complete liability and has been for a while now. the others i can agree with

mccann in particular seems to be in a somewhat similar situation as marchessault before goin to vegas. the underlying numbers looked good at the start of their careers but were bounced around by some teams for unknown reasons despite their effective play then both ended up breaking out in pittsburgh and florida respectively.
i think as it stands now they are competitive but will look better after the draft tonight and any FA signings. they seem to have a lot of space to go after hamilton or landeskog. could even trade for eichel or offer sheet makar or pettersson lol

That's fuking amazing drafting by Chevy.
Jets will eventually go on another deep cup run trust me. Once they sort their D out they will be set with Helleybuck. Heinola, and Samberg are also developing nicely. I think it's time to trade Sami Niku on a package, and get back a top 4 dman hopefully tonight in the draft or through free agency. Would be amazing to get Dougie Hamilton lol one can dream.

What a bad trade by Rangers why get rid of Buchnevich?? Unless they have something else big in store. That pretty much means Tarasenko getting traded.
Also, hearing OEL and Garland to Vancouver for their 9th overall pick tonight and some salary dumps like Erikssen Roussel Beagle lol.

drafting seems to be more of a joint effort that is largely up to the scouts, where as signings and trades are more directly in the hands of the GM, or at least it appears that way. i think it's pretty hard to screw up a high first round draft pick to be honest. the jets haven't done nearly as well in the later rounds.
so far every year there's been multiple occasions where chevy makes a signing or a deal that just leaves you scratching your head. like wtf is this guy thinking signing this busted ass old defenseman who's been declining for 7 years or this forward who does nothing but skates in one direction fast but handles the puck like a fuking grenade and has no idea where to be ever. and then you think "oh this is gonna be okay right its only in case of emergency if we have our top 6 D die of ebola, they won't ever play" and then maurice plays them 20 mins a night the second they arrive in town.
not only are these moves bad by themselves but they also block younger prospects who may actually be good from ever playing and seeing what the org has. they do this every single year without fail and never learn from it
at a certain point it's just on chevy. if you have a retarded coach then: A) he should be fired, or B) you shouldn't allow your retarded coach the opportunity to make retarded decisions (ie. signing pylons) and make your team worse. but the reality is this just makes chevy the retard for doing neither of those things.
besides perreault who admittedly was one of the best pickups i've seen in a long long time, and frolik, who has chevy signed that actually made the team better? i swear for every 1 decent or average signing there are 10 horrible ones. all the trades he's made are basically washes, getting rid of good players who no longer wanted to be here for decent returns but the signings are pretty much bad across the board.
have zero faith in this management and coaching staff and their ability to figure it out anymore. idk how they went from being so elite in 17/18 to whatever they are doing now. legit buffalo sabres/ottawa senators levels of cringe with this team the last few years. very unfortunate
would be down to grab a beer obviously as long as it's not watching the jets. would rather watch an actual competent NHL team play or even womens curling over them tbh

the Jones deal is ****ing insane. 1 year of Seth Jones = top 4 young d-man, x2 first rounders (TBL pick was 32nd lol), then the swapped 2nd turned into Jake Bean. and Hawks give Jones an extremely risky contract.
Jones can log 30 minutes/night without breaking a sweat while leading the play, which is probably why GM's had their wallets out. but despite coming off two declining seasons he absolutely secured the bag in a flat cap era, and the guy's known to have a helluva ego. so where's his incentive to play at his best lol.

Knowing his last two seasons haven't been elite (albeit maybe he was a little unmotivated), the cap hit seems at least 750k high.
Curious what kind of deal Buchnevich gets from STL.
Painful knowing Buchnevich cost only a sliver more than what the Oilers paid for Duncan Keith.

Jones can log 30 minutes/night without breaking a sweat while leading the play, which is probably why GM's had their wallets out. but despite coming off two declining seasons he absolutely secured the bag in a flat cap era, and the guy's known to have a helluva ego. so where's his incentive to play at his best lol.

hilarious that Bergevin both picked Mailloux despite him withdrawing from the draft, and was certainly one of the people in power who knew about Aldrich's "activities".
