I don't think gang bangers should be able to profit off glorifying that lifestyle and then turn around and say "psyche, I'm a good guy now."

Fuk that actually. Does that mean this guy deserved to get shot or die? NOPE. But I don't really give a chit about anyone's redemption.

Anyways, rip you reckless bastard.

How do we know he truly changed his life? We dont know what he was like behind closed doors. He had for profit businesses in the hood and was generous with his money. But you gotta keep in mind he was rich he could afford to be generous with his money.

He was apparently going to meet with police commisioner to talk about anti-violence gang prevention. He was also, like a lot of gangsters/drug dealers, very charamastic and well liked. That's commendable.

But he still was making music glorifying the gangster lifestyle and he still was hanging out with active Crip gangsters. Some of them were probably killers.

I know people who have truly turned their life around and they dont make music glorifying that lifestyle anymore like Nippy was and they stop hanging out with gangsters.

Nippy got killed for disrespecting a fellow gang member in public. Something he might have killed other gangsters for in the past if you believe his lyrics.

This guy was no angel. Not saying I am glad he is dead but karma is a bitch. These rappers brag about shootings they may or may have not done, hang around gangsters/drug dealers/killers then when they got shot everyone wants to talk about how they were such great guys. Doesn't make sense to me.

Thread has a lot of people with who seem to have a need to express their opinions at the expense of somone who was murdered and lessening his family and friends loss with their comments.

I don’t find much value in learning lessons or heeding advice from anyone with such a jaded, twisted moral compass. Say your part respectfully “it’s sad, I wish we could work on this culture of violence”. And stop with the “deserved it’s and surprise surprise” or try just shutting the fuk up for once in your life, if a time like somone dying isn’t enough for you maybe the fact one of his kids might be crying upset and googling anything to do with her dad and has to read your snarky bullchit, might be enough to stop you from spitting on a dead mans grave out of respect.

Because you cowards wouldn’t open your mouth like that if confronted with friends and family, you would find a little restraint and class and hopefully silence. Guess it’s easy and cool acting edgy and tough online.

The popularity of the hood and gangbanging and living the stupid worthless lifestyle of a hood rat became popular in the early 90s and exploded more so in the mid 90s. Every rap song was about living the lifestyle and showcasing how "cool" it is. Its really cool to be a piece of s&*t thuggn, killing, robbing, not working, fathering countless kids and not taking care of them, dropping out of school to gangbang, deal drugs and be nothing but poop on society. AND for some reason people still to this day find this lifestyle amazing and cool and want to follow in its footsteps..It just blows my mind. From white upper class to middle class to lower class...to every other color of person in america..its for some reason appealing..and "girls" not women,...just love it..

What does that have to do with the misc? I ride bikes and hang out in a lot of the same bars as the 1% clubs. For the most part they are dirtball piece of chit drug dealers. And I would be just as happy to see one of them flattened by a semi as I am to see this pea brained moron take a bullet to his noggin. They are all low life pieces of human garbage.

Nope, wanna act like a thug, then don't be surprised when you are killed like a thug. Maybe he should have thought of his kids before wanting to pretend he was hard, because clearly, someone was harder than him and made an example out of him.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I'm not acting tough. I'm not a tough guy. I'm just stating he lived a life where getting shot is a possibility. The Rolling 60 Crips are ruthless and have plenty of enemies. Him and his homies probably shot rival gang members when they were more active gang bangers. I dont feel sorry for him because of that.

Also based on his lyrics and recent events (he slapped a BET reporter and was in a fight at a club with a Mexican gangster recently) I am skeptical he truly changed and was a 'good guy.'

I do feel sorry for his family who are not involved with crime and have to deal with losing a son, brother, father etc but him being a gang member I'm sure they knew it could happen.

The Hells Angels are still an outlaw MC, and they are still considered to be a criminal organization by law enforcement and the public. The difference between the Hells Angels and the Crips is the HA spent millions of dollars on public relations. Fundraisers/Charities/ Food drives/ Toy drives for kids. Etc.They've spent years and millions of dollars to attempt to sway public perception. Especially in areas where they are present.

You think those guys allow violent crime in the neighborhoods around where they live, at the bars they hang out at, and around their club houses? Drawing attention to criminal activities and committing open acts of violence is frowned upon. They haven't been involved in any major violent incidents since the 90's as far as I'm aware. Furthermore they've spent the last 20 years recruiting people with actual careers who don't want a street thug reputation. This doesn't make them decent people. It just means they don't want to draw unnecessary attention to their criminal organization.

Nipsey acknowledge Crip affiliations in an interview in 2010. Which was 9 years ago. He likely wasn't involved in any major gang or criminal activity. However there is certainly speculation about the guy who shot him. Most likely he was killed over a simple street beef.

"turned his life around"= was killed by another gang member while in his gang's hood hanging out with other gang members.

"Funny though the Crips were actually formed as street fraternity as a response to be black men being excluded from clubs like the Boy Scouts."

This is some laughably made up sht.

Please don't try to act like Black America doesn't glamorize street gangs the same way that the mob is glamorized. And blacks glamorize the mob just as much as whites do. Millionaire rappers literally pay to get into street gangs because they think that it is cool and it will get them more notoriety and adulation from rap fans. Nipsey made his money off of the gangster image. He didn't get rich from promoting positivity in the black community. Same as Jay Z. Make millions off of preaching about drug dealing, killing and materialism, and promoting those ideologies, then when you are good and rich and comfortable, you can pretend to be some philanthropist or "woke" black man. The problem with the black community as a whole is that they fall for charlatans every damn time. Malcolm X was an actual criminal who went on to denounce his previous life. He didn't make millions off of promoting it while "giving back" at the same damn time.

Im torn between the two sides of this conversation. I grew up in the hood (relatively) but just because you live in that environment doesnt mean everyone turns into a gang banger or drug dealer. I chose to stay on the straight path and soon as I could, I got the heck out of dodge.

Im torn because I really respected Nipsey for his entrepreneurial mindset. He really did have a sense for business and it seemed as if he was a catalyst for change in his neighborhood. Im torn however because I know he had a past. He's the dude that was pushing drugs to the kids in his hood before he had a platform to do positive. Is it ok to sell drugs to gain money to invest in legitimate business so you can then turn around and do good? Im thinking no right now....but Im torn because I do respect the words that come out of his mouth in interviews.

So many good honest people who have lived straight their whole lives get taken from their families and children every day, and I'm gonna cry over some piece of sh*t who finally got clipped for something he deserved (and worked hard to deserve)...LOL yeah right.

You get what you give motherfukker...just because you're tryin to hand out candy to the kids now doesn't negate the rocks you sold them earlier. You can run, but you can't hide.

^^looks like another first class citizen up there LOL.
