An old friend of mine makes $51k as a elementary school gym teacher. Also coaches a sport, making an addtl $7k

The 2 private schools I went weren't some swanky 50k per year deals. They were both mostly rural kids who's parents didn't want to send them to the failing district they were in. The public school I went to was "A" rated so supposedly one of the highest in the state. Maybe the super preppy private schools have worse students, I wouldn't know.

Full disclosure my wife works in the public school system as a counselor and was a teacher for years before that. Her mother is also a public school teacher. I've had the public vs private argument a million times. The only kids who had a better time in public school are the ones who had trouble fitting in. At public there are a lot more kids like that so its easier to find a group you belong to. If you never had issues fitting in with people private school is better hands down. Me and everyone else like me, good grades and no trouble making friends, I know that went to both preferred private

average teacher salary from where I'm from is around 40k and lol if you think they don't work full-time hours BRB grading papers, constant training, meeting with parents. My mom is a teacher and she works around 60 hours per week easy.

family member is a teacher. their fault for going into that career. they knew they had to prep for class, grade papers, teacher parent conference, deal with shyt students, etc.

don't complain about the pay afterwards like you are owed more. they knew exactly what they signed up for.

if you became a teacher because it was your passion, love kids and teaching than you shouldn't be complaining.

if you don't like your job or pay (all careers) then leave and find something better.

I am a teacher and would not change my profession for anything in this world. I went into it knowing I wouldn't make a lot of money. Teaching has been something I have been wanting to do since I was a kid. It can be fun, rewarding, painful, agitating, and you grow with the job. I never expect wage increases, nor do I honestly care how much I truly make. Just as long as I can what I need to survive. That's the thing though, I had to sacrifice a lot just to even get my job. I work from before 7am to 5pm. School is out at 2:16. I have tutoring, clubs or sometimes meetings until 3:30, then I stay until about 5 because I'm grading. I eat between periods because I give my lunch up to give tech help to teachers or tutoring time for students who can't come after school.

Wife works at an elementary school. All those teachers make 30-40k.

They spend 45-50 hours a week at school, and spend ridiculous amounts of time at home prepping **** for school.

They take care of our children, they deserve way more than they earn, fuk outta here.

The whole point of standardized schooling was for support of the industrial boom. It's to make good worker that we don't have work for anymore, so it's worth keeping a critical eye on it's purpose.

However, I think the vast majority of teachers are underpaid, with urban teachers being overpaid most of the time. Rural teachers simply do not make enough.

A lot of "administration" and sports seem to be eating up the budgets. The worst academically performing high school in our 1.2 million person county has the highest funding for football, and regularly gets additional sponsors from footwear companies. They have a multi million dollar taxpayer funded stadium, locker rooms, etc. They've never returned even 10% of what they've put in. The teachers there don't make more than 45k a year.

IMO it's on the districts to pay more, they have the funding. At least that's the case around here.

Texas has one of the worst teacher to avg state salaries in the US.

Here are some numbers.

And all the cities with the 60K+ Teaching jobs or in Cali,DC and New York. I live in Florida bro and the starting pay over here in Miami is about 40K. It's pretty much like that in 80 percent of the USA

Florida is a strange state for teacher pay. It varies more by district than most states. There are plenty of teachers making 60k in low cost of living areas. I wouldn't call St. Paul Minnesota a high cost of living area but over half the teachers in that district make more than 75k. All that took was a quick google search. I'm sure there are plenty of others

You are using one example. There is more cities and states with teaches that make 40k then which teachers who make 70K lol.

A Minneapolis teacher with a master’s degree and five years of classroom experience will earn $53,095, according to the district’s newly approved contract. In St. Paul, the same teacher will earn $48,878.

But once that teacher gains more experience, the salary in St. Paul can be nearly $10,000 more a year.

A teacher with 20 years of experience and a master’s degree will earn $80,798 in St. Paul compared to $71,405. in Minneapolis.

Salaries in IT jobs are not the norm. You should be comparing teachers to other public sector workers

try again *******, I had a 3.7 in hi school with zero work or studying. Then I got two degrees that you couldn't cut it in either. The problem is I went to school with teachers and saw their workload or lack there of. Anyone can get a teaching degree, and that's why it's far less valuable.
