When music was good
Traffic was light
Genders were only 2
No one (practically) cared about racism, because we did not judge someone on their skin color..we all wanted to break dance.
Surfing was epic
Taking the BMX to every hilltop

Windsurfing/sailboarding and beach culture (in general) were huge in the 80's. There were a couple of men's pro tours and even a women's pro tour. Maui, SF, and The Gorge were the big hotspots in the USA, but people sailboarded anywhere there was water and wind.

Laird Hamilton was a pro windsurfer before he was a famous big wave surfer.
