Smooth sailing so far brahs.

I drink damn near every day and I fall into that groove and dont stop.

But every time i quit for a month or 2 I dont typically have any issues. I dont get the withdrawal brahs... (a REAL withdrawal is quitting ciggys which I conquered 6 years ago) I just have to stop myself from falling back into that old groove.

I dont know why I cant be one of those brahs who can have a few drinks and then not drink k again for a week or 2. I'm an all or nothing guy. It's either every day, or not at all....

As mentioned before, I had to delay my sober October until Sunday because I was at a bachelor party. Drank quite a bit Friday night, didn't feel great Saturday morning. Drank even more Saturday night, ended up at a sleazy strip club, felt like total garbage that night and into Sunday. That feeling actually set me up well for sober October - I have zero desire to grab the bottle right now, really don't want to feel like crap again. Doing nofap at the same time too.

Some things that have helped me the past couple of years:

- think "I will stay free from alcohol" instead of "don't drink." Supposedly your subconscious latches onto the part after "don't" if you think in terms of don't, won't, can't, shouldn't, mustn't, etc. (Alber Ellis called this Musterbation)

- focus on how great it feels without a hangover, without the extra calories, better sleep, etc. Again, don't think in terms of what you think you are missing. (If you're like me you aren't missing anything except feeling like piss.)

- go for walks, read books, and do breathing exercises (I use an awesome breathing app called Prana Breath")

I've been drinking a fuk ton of coffee / tea since stopping booze. Helps to have something to sip on (vs chugging water)

hitting up the gym helps too- I do a morning workout and get that great endorphin rush that gets me energized and motivated to go do stuff vs sitting at home thinking about drinking

If all else fails, i look at my bank account and see dem greens stacking up. The savings are real

Yeah, it makes perfect logical sense - but sometimes when those cravings strike (obviously the severity varies from person to person), logic and reason can easily go out the window. Not to mention how easy it is to lie to yourself about it. Like I've said before, at least for me, if you can get past the initial couple weeks or so it can start to get a bit easier and the cravings can die down a bit/you can start to regain some sense.

I remember when Joe Rogan did Sober October, he said he had some vivid ass dreams.

Just had one myself last night. Nothing like getting chased by a werewolf or something but damn it was terrifying.

He attributed those dreams to being off weed, not alcohol. He quits a lot of stuff for October lol

Last 2 nights were rough. I was actually justifying grabbing a couple of beers because my acid reflux has been going crazy at night giving me insomnia. I thought I needed some beer to settle my stomach. Decided to just take pepto and tums.
Woke up this morning with a lot of energy and my stomach feeling way better! Glad I decided to tough it out rather than kick the can down the road.

Late, but in. Schedule has been brutal with working full time and full time school. Been hitting the whiskey more often just to relax. Last time I drank was Sept 26. Feels good getting my morning gym sessions in feeling rested and fresh.

Anybody else just get that deep pit of depression hit them in the gut and you just don't know what to do other than have a beer?
Avoidance through substitution can work, but it's not a long term fix. There will only be a limited amount of instances where one can distract and avoid a temptation before ultimately giving in. Avoidance through substitution is a temporary fix, utilized simultaneously with some sort of therapy. Don't want to see a professional or don't have the money/insurance to do so? No problem. There are books and courses out there to work on the root causes. Self-help (publications) for the most part is nonsense. Tailored to this forum I would recommend reading something likeExtreme OwnershipandCan't Hurt Me. If you're in to the psych stuff, I would highly recommend reading Carl Rogers. Self-actualization is a key to understanding what you need and don't need, and the ability to promote wellness within your own life.

Almost caved in this afternoon as I was off work and super bored. Very glad I didn't and feel like the rest of the week will be easy until Friday.

So 118 days sober total. I've enjoyed it but also haven't really seen anyone during that time outside of exercise lmao.
Nice one m8, that’s where I’m trying to be

Day 5: the first few nights were so damn hard. Last night was surprisingly easy. Don’t even think I had any cravings. Just trying to stay busy and get a lift in closer to bedtime to keep me occupied

2 weeks sober is still pretty good guys.

Just had another crazy dream, back in school and was buying tacos in the cafeteria. Mofo gave me 2 pieces of candy instead. Woke up saying 'that's ****ing candy'.

On 6 months and 19 days.

Was experiencing GERD from drinking too much. Blood test for annual showed liver enzymes slightly elevated. Ultra sound of abdomen showed fatty liver (I didn't realize how common this is in society)

Having had a daughter born that's now 8 weeks old... I cut the drinking **** out. Never been the happiest person and was using it to make myself feel better. Well I can't say I'm any happier but I feel a hell of a lot better since stopping.

The first couple days went easier then expected. I am having a rough day at work and am really wanting to get faded. I already knew that during this month something would trigger me so I told everyone that would listen I'm doing sober October. If I crack they will know I'm weak minded and that just isn't going to happen.

Just remember - having a drink doesn't actually help you relax. All it does is temporarily satisfy the craving but then you end up ruining your quality of sleep and you wake up far LESS relaxed.

Going good!

Less bloated, no hangovers, already seeing a little loss of weight on the scale in the AM. Sleep schedule is wack though, but it's cuz I work late and really wanna game or watch movies/shows after lol.
