Political science and international relations aren't exactly hard fields to pick up dude. I've read like 20 books on IR in the last 6 months and literally hundreds of "scholarly" articles to try to understand this war. This is the problem with our foreign policy establishment. They are so locked into the game theory and they sit there and game it out assuming China and Russia will ruthlessly pursue war. We already know Article 5 is a completely empty threat when nuclear weapons are involved. What would the US do if Russia nuked Lithuania tomorrow? Yeah we'd like everyone to believe we'd nuke in response. But everyone knows it is an empty threat. Read Article 11 to realize public will is going to have an influence on our response. Russia knows this too. So why hasn't Russia attacked? Because, and this is going to sound crazy to you, Russians don't want a nuclear war either. Insane, I know. They had legitimate reasons to attack Ukraine. And Putin clearly didn't want to take this road. They tried for peace multiple times.
