It is not only the threat of the dog, which is still sufficient to justify use of force. But it is also the danger of the officer being incapacitated around potentially hostile humans. Clean shot. Would give the officer a medal for heroism and quick thinking removing a dangerous threat from the community.

Lol, thought you were being serious. I actually had two adult doberman chase me around the neighborhood when I was 8 years old. I was scared ****less and ran faster than I ever ran in my life. Turns out they were just curious and a neighbor stopped me and gave me water to drink because I was out of breath and hyperventilating. The event failed to turn me into a pussy every time I saw a big dog. Guess the cop had too much soymilk in his coffee that morning.
