Again, so much for the "a vote for GJ is a vote for HC" claims people keep repeating yet is not supported:
"The other major trend is the popularity of third-party candidates. With Libertarian Gary Johnson at nearly 15 percent and Green Jill Stein at nearly 10 percent, one-in-four younger voters are abandoning the established parties for candidates who are more closely aligned with their values. Millennials might even fuel Johnson to make the debate stage this fall.
These third-party candidates are taking support away from both parties, but more from Clinton. In particular, former supporters of Bernie Sanders are flocking to alternative candidates; one recent poll had 61 percent of Sanders former voters supporting either Johnson, Stein, or Trump. In almost every poll, Trumps margin is better in a four-way race versus a two-way race.Clinton will need to whither away support from these third-party candidates to stay competitive.

Looks like the younger crew strongly favoring GJ:
Gary Johnson Leads In 18-24 Demographic Over Both Clinton and Trump.
When those polled were asked who they would choose to vote for between four candidates - the 4th being Jill Stein of the Green Party - Johnson came in first with 35%, with Clinton trailing with 30%. Trump placed 4th, once again, behind Jill Stein with 12% and 14% respectively.
It should be noted that the IBD poll is far more accurate than the McClatchy-Marist Poll, which means Johnson's standing with Millenials is far more prevalent than many thought.
What makes this interesting is that the youth is typically a left leaning demographic, with the Democrat party often putting great effort into attracting them through pop-culture, and showy activism. However, while both mainstream parties have seen a bleed of voters, this swing away from the Democrat party shows just how bad things have gotten for the left.

INB4 "but but, a vote for Johnson is a vote for Hillary" Wrong:
Clinton's third-party headache
Polls show younger voters are taking a long look at the Libertarian and Green Party nominees this year. That could be a big problem for Hillary Clinton in a close race against Donald Trump.
A raft of new polls out this week carried almost unanimously good news for Hillary Clinton, staking the Democratic presidential nominee to significant leads over Donald Trump. But thereโs one potential warning sign in these polls should the race narrow: Clintonโs lead over Trump shrinks when voters are allowed to choose one of the major third-party candidates in the race.
Yet the Libertarian Partyโs presidential ticket โ composed of former GOP Gov. Gary Johnson of New Mexico and former GOP Gov. Bill Weld of Massachusetts โ appears to draw more from voters who might otherwise be aligned with Clinton, especially younger voters.

He lost my support when he said Clinton did no wrong doing and shouldn't be prosecuted.

I agree it's not an idea on paper I'd agree with either, but I need to see details, like the "but dem open borders mate!" from those who have not actually examined the full plan. For example, he feels the reason the prisons are bursting with people is due to the failed "war on drugs" which he'd end if we could, and he's right. So, look at the big picture and don't allow hyperbole to guide you.
His logic and approach are flawed.
I can understand his reasoning:
All things being equal, you will have the same issues as in public prisons, but at a lower cost to the tax payer. With the assumption that once more appropriate drug laws are enforced, dealing with prison populations in private prisons will be much easier than compared to public prisons, at a lower cost.
And all of this is based off of his one experience with New Mexico. It may as well be anecdotal.
We all know the US is rife with lobbying and the skewed "political" process in which policies and acts are enacted. If it weren't for lobbying being legal, the US would be the largest cartel government there is, that caters to the whims of the highest bidder, and nothing more. The situation is bad as it is, and Johnson believes that once this is enacted, that the situation will not become worse? It's very one-step thinking on his part, and New Mexico is not a litmus test for the greater happenings of the nation, in any capacity.
While the approach seems reasonable, so long as limits can be placed, in one form or another, on the privatization of prisons (which is in opposition to small government and what have you), the reality of the matter is that it would not happen. New Mexico may very well be, and likely is, a one off, and nothing more. Once private prisons become last week's news, or his term is up, lobbyists will be given carte blanche to lobby to no end. One can argue that the failed drug war policies and harsh sentencing we have today persist due to the privatization of prisons, and the continuing situation regarding the matter. (Private prisons do exist, and are growing, due to the backwards legal policies still present).
Again, to imagine that the greed, efficiency, and creativity of privatization will simply be content with taking the initial set of "business" from the government is incredibly naive, and any first year student understands that growth is a must for any business. How does a company which operates prisons grow? I can certainly tell you it's not via rehabilitation, relaxing of out of date drug laws and harsh sentencing, and improvement of an inmate's life-cycle in the prison system. Throw in lobbying not from a union, but from business entities with deep pockets, connections, and unimagined determination, and you have yourself a slippery slope to an even greater problem.
This all comes down to Johnson's ideal hopes, vs. the reality of the situation, that we can arrive at from years, and years of experiences in other sectors, and other aspects of government politics, which New Mexico's two private prisons he references would not give a proper indication of in any light.
But please, don't get me wrong, my political leanings are libertarian to the core, and then some, but I feel that something so basic should have been given more thought, and the fact that he can't seem to see the possible ramifications of such a decision, is worrying. While the reasoning may be well intended, the execution is flawed. Unless there's a paradigm shift in the political system, and lobbying is nearly squashed out (what a fiary tale world that would be, huh?), his solution is a greater problem waiting to happen. Is he better than the other two candidates? Well, I'm bias, and would say yes. But I also feel something can be gained by having Trump in office that may not be so easily garnered with others in office. And I don't say that as a supporter of Trump, per se, but of what it may force the nation to consider during his term; a deep hard look at where the country finds itself, and eventually a greater consideration of "fringe" candidates like Paul, his son, and even skewed Libertarian candidates like Johnson.
Somewhat a long winded, and a bit late, but someone negged me with a stupid comment that didn't make an attempt to argue my previous post, but simply make assumptions and ad hominem comments. Politics, for you.

Here's some interesting info. Depending on how the electoral college falls and it's close between Hill-Trump, GJ may only need to win his home state to become POTUS. That's pretty wild but true. Unlikely? Frankly, I think the House of Representatives would leap at the opportunity to work with two ex GOP governors.

Insert "it's happening" Mpeg here brahs. More win for Johnson:
Gary Johnson's Poll Numbers Rising in Battleground States
Libertarian appeal growing in Virginia, Florida, North Carolina; Johnson hits 15% in Colorado.
http://reason.com/blog/2016/08/12/ga...-rising-in-bat
Via Wall St J:
"The results reinforce the findings of other national and battleground-state polls taken in the past two weeks: In the wake of the two parties' conventions and amid a series of setbacks for the Trump campaign, Mrs. Clinton has consolidated her base and widened her lead on a number of fronts....
Mrs. Clinton also continues to hold a dominant position in all four states when the field of choices is broadened to include Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein. In a four-way race, Mrs. Clinton draws more than 40% of the vote in all four states. In two, Colorado and Virginia, Mr. Johnson breaks into the double digits.
The poll also found that voters in all four states continue to have unfavorable impressions of both major-party nominees. For Mrs. Clinton, her negative ratings range from 52%, in Florida, to 59%, in Colorado. Mr. Trump's negative ratings range from 62%, in North Carolina, to 69%, in Colorado.
[Clinton] is backed by 92% of Democrats; Mr. Trump is supported by 79% of Republicans.
The polls surveyed 862 registered voters in Florida, 897 in Virginia and 899 in Colorado, and have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points. Also surveyed were 921 registered voters in North Carolina, with a margin of error of 3.2 percentage points."
People continue to dislike their choices from the two party strangle hold and are looking for a viable alternative from Hill-Dump. Too little too late? It all revolves around his making it in the debates where polls and elections really shape up.

Let the people decide. You wanna see what your alternatives to the two party train wreck you have been offered sounds like? Here's your chance. If this bumps them up by just a few points in the polls, they will be in the debates. It would be nice to have a grown up in the room at the debates no? Make it happen.
Sometimes I think about if there were an independent quasi-public agency, similar to the Fed, that could handle all aspects of our elections. From properly testing and debugging voting machines to organizing the debates as well as other issues like vote stuffing/fraud. Problem is there is no money in it so it won't happen....

If Johnson gets in the debate, I have no doubt in my mind he poses a legitimate risk to Trump/Hillary in the general.
