Ok, OP.

Ok.

I don't hand out negs often (probably not in the last 5+ years) but you're tempting me...

I don't really get it..

IMO, linear progression is linear progression.... If you get to "powerlifting" weights by doing that, then that's good?

As a guy who's squated 550 for reps, I don't really understand a "low bar" squat, just get it in a comfortable spot and don't let your chest come in front of your knees and maintain a neutral back. Sit in the chair.

IMO a low bar squat borders on bad form....

I think if more people are learning the proper way to do those lifts and better themselves that's all that matters, so if seeing a couple lifting videos on IG or whatever gets someone interested and gets someone to try squatting for the first time I think that's awesome.

Of course there are idiots who don't bother learning technique and will just show up and try to rip 405 off the floor because they think it's badass, but for the most part if they are serious about getting involved they will understand that it's more than just a charade of trying to be hardcore. It's those who don't understand that who people will be cringing at.
Nobody really complains about legit powerlifters. Its like so many casual bikers that are out of shape get the whole suit, helmet, and $5000 bike and think they are lance armstrong. There are A LOT of powerlifter that are the equivalent of that.

Fukk man just go on instagram and try to not cringe. It would be the same with bodybuilding or oly lifting if that were the trend, but its powerlifting now and there are so many ****gy people acting like they are ed coan.

I can respect a power lifter if he's putting up big numbers but if they can't just lol. I've been lifting at the Y over my Christmas break and I see this fatty with a big gut everyday, bald, knee sleeves, scraggly beard, too tight Bro tank, and powerlifting shoes on. He doesn't even put up weight lol I put up more and I haven't lifted for strength in over two years. I cringe at 90 percent of gym goers though. I'm sure I'd cringe at me too if I was somebody else in the gym though too

This is the same with every sport. Rather it be powerlifting, bodybuilding, cross-fit etc. etc. and lets not forget MMA and the Tap Out phenomenon. I'm just glad to see the curl racks being used for squatting again.

Powerlifting is awesome. The part that isn't is the people that spend so much time worrying about their belts, knee wraps and sleeves, matching squat shoes with their wrist wraps and elbow cuffs, etc etc and can't even do a proper squat with 225lbs.

Kind of miss the old days of powerlifting where dudes would just go in and rip some heavy weight off the floor and put in some work, or go and bench and hammer out a good workout without talking about their new sleeves that are a new color.

You need to build some strength before you start using all these tools. Squat shoes, belt, knee sleeves, wrist wraps aren't gonna make your squat better. Once you starting putting up some poundage, then all these things will really come into play.

I mean I see no use for me using anything besides maybe wrist wraps and straps (if my gym won't let me use chalk). I'll add in all the other stuff when my body and the weights tell me I need to. Build some strength and size before you worry about the minute stuff that won't really make a difference until later

I workout in a college gym so I see these guys all the time. I also advise a collegiate lifting club and am routinely disgusted at 165 guys squatting over 400.

In the big scheme of things I'm mostly disgusted at myself for not squatting 400 yet. I can bitch about them or work on my own squat.

Think I'll work on my own squat.

1400 pound crew.... just a t shirt and regular under armour shorts, just chalk.

IMO, all these "aids" are just fluff, if you can't do it raw, then you shouldn't be doing it.

IMO, squatting is the mental game, bench/dead, easy to get pumped for.

I usually put on 225 and do like a warm up set of 15-20 just to get the blood moving, I know it's nice and easy and it gets the motor path firing, after that I'm excited about squatting.

but ya, just getting psyched to squat is 75% of the battle

That's funny, because I find it easiest to get pumped for a squat.

Oly shoes ftw.

The only time I'm flexible in the hips is when I'm squatting. Putting on shoes and socks is a pain in the ass because I neglect stretching and foam rolling.

Be careful.

I had a horrible failure once on bench, and now make sure I have a spotter when I'm even moderately heavy.

I never put clips on when I go heavy, it's stupid not to have a spot I know. I've always found that if I ask for a spot from a random gym goer they do more harm than good. GF is the only one I trust to spot me and we hardly ever lift together

I like this powerlifting thread. People are busy using all the squat racks (which I NEVER use) so the machines, smith machine, cables and DB section is often free.

Only thing I hate about this trend is that my gym is removing some of my favorite machines in favor of squat racks and Pull Up crossfit stations. My gym has gotten rid of two GOAT machines because of it SMH. The Hammer strength shoulder press and a great dip machine

Yeah lol at people who put money into a hobby. Lol at people who don't fish on a homemade wooden raft with a stick and string. Lol at people who play baseball with anything more than a broom and rocks. Lol at people who paint with anything other than their fingers and bodily fluids.
