i was a little disappointed a thread on mix-raced children was deletd yeserday, cus it is a topic i would like to hear different thoughts on.
i dont think it has to be offensive to anyone
is it racist to say you wouldnt want to have mixed kids and wouldnt want anyone in your family to pursue a mixed-race relationship and create mixed-race children, i do not think so. i think racism is prejudice, saying mean things, etc. its not saying anything mean, and it isnt because thinking less of them.
ie, you can get along great with your black neighbors, have them over to your yard to chill, but when you are talking about making one of your own children's children, a person of color - i dont fault people for being skeptical. it goes against our nature, heritage, tribal identity, etc. it's a big step to make, for people to say oh its nothing thats racist, i think they are not being truthful or they are just mind washed.
im not commenting on the unfortunate events in the OP, i dont think anyone should abandon support for their family members.
i think a lot of people strongly have these wants and fears and concerns but they are too afraid to say it and instead have to lie to themselves and lie out loud.
i was reminded that obama is mixed race, i had heard it before but didnt really follow that stuff although i think hes done well nd is a good speaker, but for example to me he seems black. not that theres anything wrong with that. but i understand how an all white family would be skeptical of having their grand son be like obama you know what im saying. is it racist to say that i sure dont think so. would it be cool to have a black parent in the family, and a mixed race kid at the holiday table, yes it would be totally fine and cool. but i dont fault people for being hesitant i am saying.
i hope i have not hurt anyones feelings but i think the internet is a place we can write about and discuss such things without damaging repurcussions ie professional or friendships.
you know what i thought about it and actually i wouldnt 'forbid' or be shocked if someone in my family had a mixed race relationship but i personally am still unsure if i would want to commit to one.

I'm still shocked people are dishing out hundreds at this "cause". Only time I've ever donated on a gofundme was for a personal friend that had a setback in life that was clearly out of their control. Even then, it was only $20.

I'm trying to figure out what motivated the people who donated. Was it the satisfaction they felt with themselves for supporting a "progressive" cause or was it more the revenge aspect, ie "someone once told me what to do and I resented it so I will get my revenge vicariously through this person."
Either way, it's irrational. Nobody considered that she could get a job. Or that there are people in much worse situations that don't happen to be "progressive" feelgood situations who could use that money.
All of this goes to show how powerful the combination of revenge mentality and the media can be. People will empty their pockets for it.
