The name for the Avengers came from her Air Force callsign. Still, it was stupid making her callsign “Avenger” to make that happen. There were plenty of thing that this movie fuked up for the MCU though. It should be called Captain Continuity Error.

This is fantasy. Is it not fantasy to become a badass hero, strong enough to beat the strongest villain, independent of factors such as sex? You know the number of heros favor men, and some aren't even super heroes.
So why does a 8 foot tall planet hurdling giant not bother you, but a strong female hero will? What I'm saying is, marvel is a made up world, and y'all are upset for one made up aspect, out of millions?

Agree with what a lot of people here has posted. Did not like her acting, did not like the deus ex machina, liked Talos & Fury, cat served no purpose, would've liked more Ronan.
There was more acting in the mid-credits scene between Banner, Steve, Natasha, and Rhodey than Cap Marvel showed in the ENTIRE movie.

Anyway, my least favorite Marvel movie the more I think about it. But again, not really seeing too much feminism that many are complaining about. But then I was not looking for it while watching, I was looking for a good movie. lol

I was more annoyed by Bore Larson's racist press tour.

I'm trying to dissect something here... Why is Brie Larson on the defensive about the movie?
Gal Gadot never said anything offensive like this or even felt the need to project herself like this.
Sounds like Brie is trying to cope and call people who dislike her/the movie sexist because she knows Gal is prettier.

So, I pirated it. Here are the main issues with the movie, and I'm being as objective as possible here:
Spoilers
Spoiler!
1) To start out, we open with a confusing introduction to her character. We get limited backstory, and we are introduced to the Kree with very little context. The movie gets into action pretty quickly, and leaves most of the character development to piecemeal flashbacks.
2) Throughout the movie, there are a lot of highly contrived scenes designed to push a narrative. I can think of a few scenes off the top of my head. The "cockpit" scene, the "smile more" scene, and the "young lady" scene were specifically put in there to promote the feminist agenda. The use of "Just a girl" as background music was a terrible choice as well. It just felt like the movie was really trying to draw attention to the fact that their main character was a girl. It distracted from the story, and it reeked of a liberal feminist agenda.
3)Spoiler!
4) The way Fury lost his eye was really dumb and anticlimactic.
5) Captain Marvel never has a training montage or anything. She just is instantly good at everything (because she's a girl, of course). It's really just a terrible way to build a character. Nobody wants to see a character who is just instantly good at chit. And they tried to cheese her way out of it by showing her failing as a kid in her memories, but of course, they never spent any time developing the HUMAN character at all, so there is no sympathy or sense of adversity. Classic Mary Sue.
6) The ending was really dumb. She just wiped out a couple of spaceships, and this mothafuka thinks he can square off with her? OK.
7)She just shows up randomly wherever just in time. Lots of things in the movie were very contrived. Skrull being in the exact right place at the right time, etc.
8) She just isn't an interesting character at all. Honestly, Coulson, Fury, and the cat were way more interesting than she was and more enjoyable to watch. They had humorous lines and good interactions.
9) It honestly felt like they just phoned this movie in. Even if Brie did a good job acting, which I would say her acting was just "ok" here, the script was weak af. There wasn't enough character development, tension, and drama to justify us caring about her. Even Captain America 1, which is widely considered the worst MCU movie, had a stronger plot and better character development than this. They could have done a Memento style superhero movie and had her slowly try to piece together who she was. Instead, the mystery was solved way too fast. There was no tension. I wasn't excited about anything in the entire movie.
Overall: Movie was pretty fuking generic. For an MCU movie, it's a total flop. For their political propaganda, it is also a total flop. If this movie didn't have the Marvel tag and such a reputation and legacy to live up to, and you judged it on its own merits, you would think it was a made for TV movie.
I give it 3/10, and that's being generous. Mediocre af.

The Skrulls turn out to be good guys in this -- refugees, lmao. I am not making this up! This is blatant political chit that has to do with the current political discussions about Syrian refugees. Yet another tool to push the liberal agenda.

Still pulling the same chit they did before[/QUOTE]I hate Brie Larson, but I'd bet that most of those audience ratings didn't even watch the movie and pre-emptively gave it a rotten rating.
But the movie is tracking to open to 300M+ worldwide so I don't think Brie Larson's effect did anything. But I'm guessing it has more to do with her tie-in to Endgame than anything. I don't doubt that her 2nd movie, and subsequent marvel movies after Endgame, are gonna suffer at the box office.

As I recall the leader of the Kree was a giant mutated head, correct? In this is was an older white lady.
Captain Marv El was a guy in the comics with epic powers and a sad tragic death, in this, he's the older white lady.
Not the typical witty dialogue of a Marvel movie.
Unnecessary feminist stuff too. If you have a superpowered female character just showing her doing good and being awesome is enough. She doesn't have to be snide and you don't have to have inferior males around. Wonder Woman was a great example. She was an ethical person who liked people no matter what.
Over the years of my life, I like DC more because of this. It's too bad their movies aren't what they should be.

*Spoilers*
This should have been epic. The premise and material is there. This movie could have carried the marvel MCU another 20 movies and made way for XMen's entrance into the MCU but they've killed the momentum. The beginning of the movie basically features a montage of all the white males that have held "carol danvers" back as she struggles to remember her past. Every positive point of authority or decision making in the film happens to be a female source. At the end of the movie the kree villains even proclaim "a woman?!" as if they harbor some sort of innate universal ignorance for simply being male. They didn't go full "The Last Jedi" here but they would have went farther if it didn't kill Star Wars.
HOWEVER,
Brie Larson played the role of domestic abuse victim turned paranoid man hater well and that's exactly what Paul Feige wanted for this. It IS a dog whistle for this type of individual and the fact that PF not only replaced the most powerful male entity in the entire MCU with a woman but also erased all mention of the super intelligence to make way for another female role is two out of three strikes as far as I am concerned. Furthermore, if you're not latched onto the abused ethos then you're probably not going to overlook the fact that the movie hasn't explained chit about what's happening until half way through, 3/3 just gtfo of here. Hell, this would all be okay if these superheros weren't supposed to be some sort of general representation of the public that everyone can identify. This inclusion of EVERYONE but ONE demographic is actually the definition of exclusion, and this chit is getting ridiculous. Do I sound like an SJW, sure do. Why? Because they accuse people of the social action they're about to take in order to silence any retort. That doesn't validate them or invalidate those that can simply observe that this chit is out of hand. Waiting after 20 MCU movies to shoe horn this in is some arm twisting bullchit to get everyone to attend a toxic masculinity course because Paul Feige was bullied by jocks when he kept gossiping with girls during lunch time. Well Paul, you're still fukkin weird mate. Still better than BvS. May Ben Affleck forever stay tf away from comic book movies.

Saw it today and it was pretty decent actually.
Cringiest parts involved some song chocies (Not a fan of nirvana as a pump up song in movies, and no doubt was just way too corny). However garbage and other 90s gems were great.
She seems kind of insanely overpowered, which is cool but also a bit puzzling. Sometimes her power doesn't match her decisions, which is partly a plot point but also nonsense at times.
Otherwise it was a fun watch.

BTW, here's theactualclip of what she said regarding white guys, as i'm sure very few of you have actually seen it;
Is this what you're getting offended over? Because after seeing this....she's technicallynotwrong. However, somehow the media spun it as if she was personally attacking all white males and everyone jumped on that bandwagon getting ironically triggered like a leftist SJW/tumblr user calling for action to boycott, again. Lets look at it this way, its like having a bunch of female critics review the Transformers movies only to see that they have a bias to giving it low scores....even though the demographic of the movie caters to tween to early 20 year old males that enjoy that mindless chit.
The long and short of it is, Disney has the money to waste/risk on making a movie that should generally be for males but directing it in a way to attract women viewers. They probably have expert level marketers that realize women aren't going out to see their movies as much as men and are trying to capture that audience as well. They usually rely on the "hunkiness" of the male lead (Hemsworth for example) but there was no character like that for Captain Marvel. So making it into a feminist film is how they attracted that demographic and it seems to be tracking just fine boxoffice wise.

However, when you look at all of her other white male bad, some guy asked for my number, I don't give a chit what some "white guy thinks of my movie".... you get a different picture. Throw in that if I switch "white guy" with "black woman" it is racist.
THE DEMOGRAPHIC THAT READS COMICS IS OVERWHELMINGLY WHITE MALE.
The movie was always destined to do OK. However, her mouth has encouraged a significant portion of people to not watch it... Whatever it is doing today would have been much more had she shut up.
I always figured the floor for this movie would be Avengers 2, Iron Man 2, or Thor 2. MEH movies with action that never get taken off my movie shelf.

Captain Marvel manages to take the best ideas of early MCU origin stories like Iron Man and Thor and use them to form something that feels both familiar and fresh. It can be a bit on-the-nose at times, and occasionally has to fast-track its exposition in ways that can feel slightly clunky, but what it lacks in grace it makes up for in charm. Brie Larson's stellar performance gives Carol Danvers a vibrant, joyful life that will fit right into the future of the MCU, whatever that future may hold.

Scenes between Fury and Larson's Carol Danvers, rediscovering her human past, are oddly inert, and the film's much-vaunted feminism, promised in months of run-up advertising and interviews, gets short-shrift.

Captain Marvel is not the blunt-force challenge to the accepted norms that Ryan Coogler's Black Panther came to represent, but it's a potent statement of intent.

A decent 1 on 1 scene would have been better with it evening out to be a draw.
Her ascending and taking full control of her alien powers should have been saved for later on.
I'm going to say because she is still isn't 100% in full control of her emotions that is were Thanos uses that against her.
But if Thanos gets his ass beat by her. MCU is officially dead.
Not gonna lie, the first point I've mentioned is what got me worried about MCU's current direction

They're playing "I'm just a girl" during a fight scene when she's not even a human she a living energy weapon.
If you're a super being things like human frailty are no longer part of the equation.
Superman gets a pass on this because he was brought up to be a humble guy by his nice parents. He's doesn't feel bad about himself but has emotional issues because he wishes everyone was nice.
