I actually have a somewhat related story OP

My chick has this friend across the country she grew up with and was invited to a wedding but didnt get a +1 because of "covid" - I was still down for the weekend trip and a few weeks before the wedding all of a sudden said I could go because people backed out. Yeah ok, lol, I'm all about letting things like that slide or go but it almost felt disrespectful. I didnt go to the wedding or meet up after but made my chick go to a hockey game w me the day of the wedding, lulz

I say go. If this was 2 months in none of her friends or family would care. After a year+ and her wanting marriage then yeah she's definitely going to be pissed and disappointed no matter her sweet texts. If you don't want to marry her then who cares do whatever you please, but it sounds like a free trip where you get to drink and eat some food and have to put on a stupid suit and tie. I hate weddings too btw! They're long as hell, no guy likes dancing for the most part, a suit and tie are beyond uncomfortable, you can eat something just as good somewhere else without the suit and tie without the expectation of dancing and spending hours mingling with strangers.
