perhaps the goal of some people has always been to destroy strong family units. parents are "supposed" to be pushing the kids out by 18 so they can go slave for noseberg and be "independent"/easily manipulated.

back in the 50s/60s my mom grew up in a big farm house with about 15-20 family members living there...grandparents, uncles/aunts/cousins, etc. although not wealthy, they all talk fondly about life on that farm growing up.

The housing increases and interest rates over the last 4 years have been brutal. It's understandable they are behind, but like I said it's better to wait it out just a bit longer and try to get a house.

I can completely relate to this.

My family home is a very spacious, in a top 5 town in my country and worth a few million. I happily live with my parents and my wife. We also own rental property which me and my wife could happily live in but we choose to stay at home. Similarly, my parents are getting old and starting to put more trust and responsibility in mine and my wifes hands as they look to settle into retirement. I just don't see a need to move out at this point (I am 29). We have a strong family unit, we have dinner together at least 2x a week but otherwise we can choose when and when not to see each other. I'll usually have a coffee with my parents since I WFH and chat chit but otherwise I might go 2 days without seeing them.

the argument is all relative, everyone has different life experiences. If I didn't have the above luxury then maybe I would have grown up with the idea to move out ASAP. Instead my father has raised me as his natural heir and with the expectation I look after both my parents into their old age. I could never put them in a home or leave them to live alone.

People in this thread really don't understand perspective. I can completely understand why people move out and have no issues with it yet these same people are quick to fire insults or make assumptions about those living at home. It doesn't really make sense.
