Whats the verdict on those Chinese carbon frames? Watched a few Youtube reviews and they seem to really like them. One Youtuber researched/investigated and found the manufacturer that makes his Chinese frame was the same OEM manufacturer for some big name companies (BMC was one of them). They obviously have the know how and machinery to build quality frames. Quick search on Aliexpress, $1500 for a carbon fiber frame, alloy wheels, alloy bars and full Ultegra R8000 Group.

The added speed, ease of climbing, and overall stiffness makes them my #1 upgrade. There are good alloy wheels that are reasonably lightweight and stiff, but the extra $$$ is almost always worth it to me for any bike that I really want to ride fast on

speed wise goes something like this:

1. position
2. clothing
3. cables/bottles
4. helmet
5. wheels

regardless they feel nicer and roll a bit faster than normal wheels.

I'm probably gonna have all of the above to say in a month or so when my bike goes in for its Di2 upgrade, but replace "$3K Enves" with $2K Nox." The bolded is probably the most important thing to bear in mind, regardless of what you're talking about. If you want it, and you can afford it, then fuk it. Just make sure you canactuallyafford it.

This was the only part that was holding up my Di2 upgrade, as they've been nearly impossible to get your hands on since they started hitting retailers late last year. Now all I need is some misc parts like Di2 wires and junction boxes, brake rotor adapters, and carbon bars and stem, all of which can be had within a few days. I may be going in for shoulder surgery soon, so I may hold off on the bars and stem and just roll with the stock chit for now, and then revisit bars and stem when I'm all healed up again... we'll see how it plays out.

Riding fasted

Any of you do intermittent fasting? I'm trying it out to drop 15 pounds. currently 187 (down from 191). Looking to go to 176. I love the IF, but morning rides don't feel the same while fasted. I'm within my first week so I assume it will get a little better as my body adjusts to the schedule. My average speed is somehow the same lol.

you dont feel light headed?

i feel i ride better when i had a carb heavy meal an hour before.

but i ve always done carb cycling..even when weight training...feel it gives great intensity at the same time prevent excess bodyfat gain.

Fasted, carb heavy, hungover... doesnt matter as long as ive taken a satisfying chit within the last half hour of starting.

hahahaha! very true. I like to eat carbs 1-2 hours before. As long as its not a fatty or very high protein meal, I'm good.

Sometimes I'll be a bit hungry when I start my ride but then 5 mins into it, I don't even notice my hunger. Just drink Skratch Labs to keep sugar levels balanced.

I usually do 1-2 hour rides fasted but if I'm doing some hardcore climbing / long routes I always need some quick carbs for the ride and a meal before .

Not at all. Completely relative to the individual really. Although If (well in this case, it's a matter of "when" because the majority of my rides don't last longer than 2.5 hours atm)I go beyond 3-4 hours. I'll have some calories/carbs beforehand.

once I got used to it, I was able to do a metric century fasted. You do have to gradually work up to that though, don't just decide "i'm not going to eat for the next 20 hours and do a longass ride".
Of course, I basically did morning physical training for 20+ years in the military, and I was always fasted, so you get used to it

will this compromise integrity of the helmet protection?



it doesnt sink when i press on it...dunno if i can pop it back out without damaging it further.

or i can just keep it as a 'good luck' ding

Obv you need to create an identical dent in the other side then sand them both back & fill with epoxy so you don't disrupt the balance of your helmet during descents.




Srs though, its not going to do anything, the helmet is just to stop your head MAYBE taking that one sharp knock on the pavement as a car 1 hits you from behind... you should be good (assuming your cycling buddies will still be seen with a pleb in a dented helmet).
