This is tough. But there are tests that can be done to see if you have the genes for Downs. They should have done that first. That said, now that they know, they should get themselves sterilized and if they want kids, they should abort.

We don't know how high functioning that baby could have been, there are many individuals with Downs that live full normal lives.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

This too. At least nowadays you can get tested for it super early and it's not nearly as risky to do the tests they have now. When I was pregnant with my son they didn't test until you were almost 20 weeks and if you had to look further into it an Amniocentesis could cause you to miscarry.

I'm mixed on my opinion on whether you should abort for Down Syndrome. My sisters cousin on her dads side has Down Syndrome and he's a really great kid. Well, now man. Last I heard he was living in a group home and working. So he's pretty high functioning. The problem is you don't know what level of functioning you're going to get while still pregnant. We were just on vacation and there was a family with a Down Syndrome adult. The mom always had his hand to lead him everywhere and he looked pretty happy. I just can't imagine how hard it is knowing that you're going to die at some point and who is going to take care of them?

If you know your kid's gonna be born with down syndrome or any disability that will burden and put them at a disadvantage for life I'd argue terminating the pregnancy is the ethical decision, mirin couple.
