First job I had right out of College was $43K pre bonus. It really isn't rocket science on how to bump that passed $50K, then $100K. Everyone seems to have such a cynical view on salary around here.

A practical mortgage and vehicle are the only debts that should be acceptable. I have one credit card just for gas that is paid off every month.
The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living are now out numbered by those who vote for a living.

I have about that in cc debt from just being stupid and irresponsible. Lesson learned though. Currently paying it off and it's not easy most of my 1000$ paycheck every week goes to it and it's still gonna take several months to pay off. And I'm single living with my grandma to pay it off faster with 200$ a month in bills as well.

What's sad is that a grown fukking woman of advanced age (31) needs someone to look after her. Most people are retards when it comes to finances, and that goes double for women.

its very possible to get out of that kind of debt, but it really depends on what her spending habbits are like, if she isnt frugal she wont be able to get out, also that kind of debt takes years to get out of without BK (Bankruptsy might be best, she has over her annual income in high interest debt)

She would still be on the hook for $70K and now no car at all. Depending on OP's location and options, any kind of car would be a necessity and she'd need a big down payment to even buy a clunker of a used car.

She wouldn't need help now if one of her parents or a friend pulled her aside and spent 10 minutes explaining how the world works. Some children are beyond help, but most just aren't given any help. There's a direct correlation to good parents raising non-retarded adults. There's no way she was fiscally conservative her entire life and then just decided to implode at the age of 25 or so.

My ex gf scared me with her 40K college debt. Went to a private university. Made decent money in her role. We used to work at the same company.

Before we went NC I tried to tell her to apply for other jobs and get paid what she's worth. She could make 90K EASY here in Texas but she isn't listening and it frustrated me.

She would make payments on her CC and actually managed money decently and put money in a 401K but didn't know you need to pay off the principal debt.

Also she had medical debt which was not her fault but I felt she could be more financially responsible. I've even had an ex ask me my credit score. That **** is important when building a future!

I know a guy who is still a graduate student pursuing his PHD. His wife is leaving him, he supported her while she didn't work with his student loans. He is 100k in the hole and from waht I can tell refuses to lawyer up and make her take half that debt when she directly benefited from it while she didn't work and went to school.

Crazy. Finances THE biggest issue in relationships.

As long as she is current on payments she can keep the car. The student loans are not dischargeable either. the only thing she can really get rid of is that 19k credit card debt and the car or any medical bills.

70k is student loans seems way too high for being 31 and only making 50k a year. That's dependant on location too though, 50k is really great some places but nothing in others.

Isn't the DTI annualized though meaning her debt for a single year can only be X % of her income so depending on the terms or her loads (auto could be 7 years) it's spread out pretty thinly. She may only be looking at something like 300 month auto 300 month student loans and since she isn't carrying a house note it would be easy enough to get approved for that much CC.

Yep! I had my share of college debt and a car loan. It took a few years to repair that too...most college debt I had was 14K though and I had a 9K car loan but my car is almost paid off. One more payment. Credit score 770 - 790. Not going to let a broad ruin my finances lol

Financial literacy isn't taught in school though. It's like playing a game and learning the rules as you go along.

Think about this clearly bud. If you stay with her you figure you have a future together. That debt then becomes your debt as she is not paying it off now when dating she sure as he'll will not pay it off when married or after you have kids because her priorities will change from whatever the **** they are now to kids.

Stay with her = life with someone who is not financially responsible she is 31 she is old enough to learn how **** works by now.

Her debt plus much more will now be your debt.
