First American case of a drug-resistant superbug reported in Pennsylvania
http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/26/health...re-case-in-us/
Antibiotic resistance will kill a MINIMUM of 10 million/year by 2050.
http://www.medicaldaily.com/antibiot...-future-316730
The medical world will enter an 1800s style era.
-Childbirth will become deadly again for women
-Simple operations like appendix removal or hernia repair will no longer be possible without huge risk of infection and death(For those who don't know, antibiotics are used in EVERY surgery that is performed.)
-Simple cuts will lead to deadly infections.
-Tuberculosis will once again kill thousands
-STDS will become untreatable. Cases Antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea are appearing by the hundreds
http://www.bbc.com/news/health-21702647
And if you still don't believe me, here's a final, terrifying read.
********************/@fernnews/imagini...e77#.99wkhbtd7
COMMON RESPONSES/MISCONCEPTIONS:
1. "But surely, the medical field will develop a solution" you say.
Answer: A new antibiotic has not been developed since 1980.
2. "Won't the drug companies be scrambling to find a solution? Doesn't it make them money?"
Answer: No. Antibiotics provide very little profit for drug companies and leave them with no incentive to pursue a solution.
3. "Surely, the government will intervene and initiate a massive research project that will not stop until a solution is found."
Answer: On the contrary, the government is providing no funding right now for antibiotic- resistance research. In addition, the FDA continues to allow farmers to drug their animals with multiple antibiotic strains.
4. "This is just another scare like bird flu, swine flu, or Ebola."
Answer: No. Bird flu, swine, and Ebola are viruses, not bacteria. These viruses were quickly brought under control because the carriers were placed in isolation.
Deadly bacteria cannot be placed in isolation. Hundreds of thousands of different strains of bacteria surround us in everyday life. They are in the air we breath, the water we drink, the food we eat, and even our own intestines. They cause literally thousands of different diseases and infections. It is impossible to isolate and contain bacteria like a virus.
Tour is gonna be over soon boyos. Some scary a*s sh*t.

I agree this is a real problem that needs urgent attention, not just scaremongering.
The best days of this world may already be behind us.
I believe countries need to enter into international treaties containing binding obligations to provide resources to fund and develop new antibiotics. Significant international cooperation is required.

It's because idiots don't finish their courses and that about 80% of the worlds antibiotic use is used on healthy animals.
If both of these were to stop even right now their would be a chance this wouldn't happen.

Terrorism is going to be a laughably small concern in 20 years.
Politicians are eventually going to have to take action. This is something that even they can't hide from. No amount of walls, money, or special healthcare privileges will protect them from this.

Antibiotics arn't the easiest thing to get on prescription over here anymore though.
Countries where you can buy them OTC aren't helpful either though.

Not surprised considering doctors prescribe anti biotics for every minor sickness. I had a cough about a year ago, went to the doctor and he prescribed me like 4 different medications including anti biotics. I ended up having an allergic reaction to one of the medications and since I didn't know to which one it was, I stopped taking all of them
Needless to say, my cough went away on its own even though it was severe.
Moral of the story: Doctors prescribe antibiotics when they aren't needed which just increases the likelihood of super bugs developing.
But it isn't just antibiotics, its all medications such as adhd pills and anti depression pills (not even a real disease), ect. I just noticed a key theme that most "mass shooters" are on a long list of medications that are probably not even doing anything good for them.

I can imagine it now...20 years into the future, millions are already dying, and researchers are finally hunched over in their labs, desperately seeking a cure just for the sake of saving their own lives.

And this upsets you... why? Look at the state of the world and the humans in it. Just take one good look, and tell me we don't need aMASSIVE wave of human slaughter right now.
Millions? Billions should be dead. Every single one of us should just be wiped out. Not just a few.

With the way the drug development process is set up they would have to start looking for new antibiotics within the next 10 years to even help solve this problem.

Necessity and the desire to survive will eventually lead to a solution. Unfortunately, I think several million people are going to have to die first.
