Elon Musk claims we ARE living in COMPUTER SIMULATION/MATRIX!

(link has audio of interview, sorry can't embed)
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-st...-a7060941.html

Elon Musk: Chance we are not living in a computer simulation is 'one in billions'

Elon Musk has said that there is only a one in billions chance that were not living in a computer simulation.

Our lives are almost certainly being conducted within an artificial world powered by AI and highly-powered computers, like in The Matrix, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO suggested at a tech conference in California.

Mr Musk, who has donated huge amounts of money to research into the dangers of artificial intelligence, said that he hopes his prediction is true because otherwise it means the world will end.

In pictures: Artificial intelligence through history

The strongest argument for us probably being in a simulation I think is the following, he told the Code Conference. 40 years ago we had Pong two rectangles and a dot. Thats where we were.

Now 40 years later we have photorealistic, 3D simulations with millions of people playing simultaneously and its getting better every year. And soon well have virtual reality, well have augmented reality.

If you assume any rate of improvement at all, then the games will become indistinguishable from reality, just indistinguishable.

He said that even if the speed of those advancements dropped by 1000, we would still be moving forward at an intense speed relative to the age of life.

Since that would lead to games that would be indistinguishable from reality that could be played anywhere, it would seem to follow that the odds that were in base reality is one in billions, Mr Musk said.

Asked whether he was saying that the answer to the question of whether we are in a simulated computer game was yes, he said the answer is probably.

He said that arguably we should hope that its true that we live in a simulation. Otherwise, if civilisation stops advancing, then that may be due to some calamitous event that stops civilisation.

He said that either we will make simulations that we cant tell apart from the real world, or civilisation will cease to exist.

Mr Musk said that he has had so many simulation discussions its crazy, and that it got to the point where every conversation [he had] was the AI/simulation conversation.

The question of whether what we see is real or simulated has perplexed humans since at least the Ancient philosophers. But it has been given a new and different edge in recent years with the development of powerful computers and artificial intelligence, which some have argued shows how easily such a simulation could be created.

This is just his way of reducing the cognitive dissonance within him, caused by being a billionaire genius, and being so stupid that the same sloot marries/divorces and alimonies him *twice*.

He can't accept that this is his reality, but it is. Tour's over, Musk.

Haha so much this ^

It's like all those religious phucknuts. "Oh my wife just died while pregnant with our twins... god's will so it's aight".

"Wife divorced and alimones me twice... must be pre programmed to have happened by le A.I."

God, simulation, whatever it's all just the same chit. Why can't people just accept we're just an accident and just make the most of what we've got? Not everything had to have a higher power reason.

If an advanced-species created our universe, it's a simulation. If "God" created the universe, that can also be considered a simulation. Existence is definitely a simulation and it doesn't matter which way you swing it. Saying "we're in the Matrix" is stupid-talk to me though.

It's something far more advanced and foreign than that, beyond any grasp of a measly human-brain.

honestly I was a huge elon musk fan but as of recent, the way hes been running TSLA and now this has lead to me to believe hes not as influential/godly as perceived. he probably is just a mad genius like a crazy scientist type person. who knows what skeletons he has in his closet or what weird sh*t hes into in his personal life/sex life.

Yes^. What would the point be in creating a utopia? Unless that is the whole point and multiple simulations are running in order to create said Utopia. It would fit in nicely withe multiverse theory.

In terms of sensory output, there aren't that many leaps between our real life experience and a simulation.

I would be shocked if we couldn't completely replicate the human experience within 100 years on the sensory level.

The next 20 years of VR are going to be absolutely insane. Considering we already have 8k and 144+ fps... once it surpasses that and it's all household technology, it's going to look brilliant. That's just mastering current technology that we know is possible, who knows what technology is going to be like in 20 years.

20 years ago I was playing on a 386 on MS-Dos.

It saddens me when smart people dont understand analogies used by really smart people.

We are not living in a simulation or a hologram. We simply can only perceive a few dimensions of the many that exist, similar to how a hologram looks 3D but is actually 2D, we only see a 4D representation of a universe that has as many as 11 dimensions.

Technically he is correct in saying that we wont be able to tell a difference between real input from out senses vs artificial in the near future, but come on man. Stop trying to blow the minds of average people with wrong information.

Yeah, I always thought the human race was a little too smart. We went to inventing fire to inventing virtual reality in a short amount of time when you look at the age of the universe on a big scale. The rate of inventions is just mind blowing. Looking at the rapid improvement of graphics cards and processing power is mind blowing enough. I remember as a kid computers had like 233mhz processors. Now we have like 8 core processors with 4.0 ghz.
