I can confirm, I lived in Sydney for a couple months 4 years ago. Real estate there is absolutely INSANE. Toronto is bad, but it's a joke compared to Sydney. They even list rent prices "per week" to make it sound not as bad. LMAO

That's a great location. I love driving south on Lamar when you get close to Pease Park and the skyline comes into view.

I'd much rather live in Sydney than Toronto so I could see why. I don't get why San Fran is so expensive. The weather is terrible, earthquakes, etc.

This.

I live in the bay area and I just sold my house in December and am waiting for the burst. Low interest rates are directing investor money to tech. A few more interest rate increases and companies will start folding, tech workers will be out of jobs, and prices will drop. Might take a bit longer than I was hoping for though..especially if people freak out after each interest rate hike.

I'm also playing the waiting game.

Do you think the Presidential election will have a big impact on the housing?

For anyone living in a city that is seeing big money immigrants buying up the real estate (chinese, arabs etc.), you may be waiting a while for that crash. Cities like London, Vancouver, Sydney, it's all foreign money coming in to launder and protect these guys assets. Half the time they don't even live in the 8 million dollar condo they buy. So as long as you have those forces at play, why would you get a correction? If you're seeing all the locals being priced out and thinking "this doesn't make sense, the bubble will burst" you're not seeing the whole picture.

It just boggles my mind how there are so many filthy rich Chinese people. Does owning a small factory really make them that rich?

Halo bro, evidently you never read capital form Marx. Word factory mean machines. Machines mean high adding of profit. Very strigtforward. Machines and people make profit. More machines more money.

Isn't that what everyone said in 2006/2007? Back then no one was able to predict the bad loans would cause the bubble to bust.

There has to be something now that can cause a big bust and no one is seeing it.

They also see it as a huge investment. They are buying and selling entire property portfolios, not just residential property, but commercial (restaurants, hotels, golf clubs etc) for hundreds of millions/billions of pounds , seeing 20-30% growth after a few years and taking all the money back to china.
Glad I already bought in London lololol

Can confirm... Managed to buy in the Bay Area for $800k late last year... The mortgage payments are crippling but luckily somehow the house value has already gone up $100k in like half a year and is worth $900k now.

Wish I would have bought a few years back, not sure when the bubble is going to pop but somehow prices are still ripping to new highs all the time.

TFW house is worth 200k more than it was 2 years ago

TFW you pay $2300 a month mortgage for a $850k+ bay area house

TFW misc financial geniuses tell you buying a house is a terrible investment, rent a 700sft apartment for $3000 a month and put money in the stock market instead bro

By that logic the bubble has been right about to pop for years now though... I kept thinking the same thing and didn't want to buy because of that... there will be a bubble that pops eventually but I'm not worried about it. If house prices tank dramatically it just means I will be able to buy a much nicer house in a nicer area when the price comes down. If they continue to rise I will profit on the one I live in now.
