No no, if I'm being completely honest (why not) this year is just a bit over 200. Not quite 250 this year unless this one deal I'm hoping for goes through it could be a bit above 250.

Anyway, let's assume my income just stopped now (our fiscal year ends soon) I'd bring home like... 150 after taxes I'm guessing? idk man. Don't want to go figure out how much lol but a bit more than what you posted. Spend I'm assuming around 70k-75k this year. Investing the rest.

Yeah, I try not to think about taxes. It is what it is and less fortunate people need government assistance.

Yeah, I will, haven't opened about 5 PMs yet lol. I love cars too. I bought mine with 20k miles on it, so 90% of the significant depreciation is gone. Then, I'll put like 2-4k miles on it driving it for fun on weekends with maybe two years ownership and sell it for about 70-80% of what I bought it for.

There, easy way to own a Ferrari level car for much less than it seems lol. No balling on a budget either, I could buy a few of them outright easy, but it's just the smart way to own a fun car.

Great stuff OP. Read/skimmed through most of it and there was a lot of useful stuff in here. I don't have any further questions myself but appreciate the time you took to reply and answer everything.

Anyways the couple things that I took away is
1) Make a linkedin profile. I've been considering it for a while now but didn't think it'd be that useful/was too lazy but now I'm definitely going to start on this tomorrow. Especially since I'm about to graduate uni and will start looking for jobs later this month, seems foolish not to do so.
2) Networking and learning from the pros. I've worked for some small companies in software development and looking back now I've focused too much on just getting the task done instead of learning the more non technical skills eg communication, career building.

Not my numbers but Client Execs here will range 120-300k or so.. Base pays are usually right at 100k starting out... Then commission is thrown in which is a HUGE variable in this company... Some can have a structure worth 50k ON top of their base, some idk..

I needed an MBA for my role.. I got it with a Bachelors degree only...

That is what OP is trying to show you guys.. Luck plays a huge part, yes.. But luck open the door, doesn't do the rest for you.

I can very much relate to the work from anywhere piece. I love it. I could literally work from a beach 90% of the time and nobody would know. I don't... lol.. but all I need is a laptop, internet, and a quiet room area at times. Travel is 100% paid for also. I took the CEO, his wife, my gf, and their 2 friends out to dinner the other night. $800 for the 6 of us. No questions asked.

I'll add to that as well. Hard work is great, but be a bit selective of when you work hard. I hate to sound like I'm gaming the system but back when I worked at different jobs.. I'd make my hard work visible. I wouldn't work all night but I'd work 5 minutes longer than the guy next to me and that's all that mattered.

I absolutely agree, this is completely true. However, not being able to provide for a family with some funds for good memories and a few vacations can sure put stress on some people. Money means absolutely nothing to anybody on this planet, it's what money can get you that is meaningful, from comfort and security, basic needs like shelter and food, to great memories and fun times. That being said, you can have the best times without spending money and money isn't necessary. It's truly not everything.

I'd personally say having a family and being happy in your relationship with a family and raising kids right is the best success someone could have. Probably the hardest challenge also. I always scratched my head when people say they wouldn't want kids. Even one. My ex didn't want kids and it probably put a huge strain on the relationship, and changed my outlook on our potential success of that relationship knowing my goals were so different. A family has always been something I wanted

I really, really doubt many have found their way at 22/23. Honestly... unless it changes, you never fully feel "satisfied" like ahhh, I've got it all figured out now.

We're not wired to feel that way. If we did, we'd stop competing and another species would have taken us out. We're wired to always feel shy of comfortable.

Hey man, thanks for posting that. I've tried to help a lot of people over the phone lol it's usually private and I never tell anyone, so there's never much acknowledgement of it but it's cool to see you found my thread and posted it!

Was happy to help and looking forward to the next phone call brah. You're on the right track.

Also, the thread has been mostly all really good, there's 9 pages and all but about 3 posters acted like kids. Just have to expect some small number always, it's the internet. Really good responses and questions throughout though. Good seeing you here!

OP add me *******....

Also: one important thing here.. Yes, making it is NOT making money... But this is something I realized recently and its going to come off very.... asinine.

Until someone has reached a significantly income, their mentality will always be "poor"... What I mean by that is....... It wasn't until I was making 6 figures that I realized what TRUE happiness is.. and ONLY then, did I discover it... Seriously... People say they know.. But until you can buy anything you want, drive almost anything you want, and have plenty of **** it money.. You will not truly understand happiness.. And buy what you want doesn't mean 10 lambos.. It means moderation and whatnot.. I drive a brand new 2ss Camaro which was my dream, live in a nice place, eat what i want, wear what i want and do what i want.... having more of the same things won't make a difference. its being able to have a piece of it that starts changing your mentality. you don't need the entire pie.

I say this because happiness and making it means you can be with the ones you love, whenever, doing whatever you want... That is TRUE happiness.. But NONE of that achievable until you can pay the bills, help your family out, and make sure your LIFE and ALL of its needs are taken care of without a single drop of stress...

Only then can you really "make it"....

So you didn't but it outright then? Wondering how you can "sell it back" in two years without ownership.. Is it financed?

No, I didn't buy it outright. When I sell it in 2 years I mean in the private market. Yes, it's financed, I got a loan. I have enough cash to buy it outright many times over, but I chose to put cash into investments.

Stocks have performed at about 8.5% or better on average over the last few decades.
The loan's interest rate is close to 4%.

Therefore, for me, I chose to keep money in stocks and get a loan as it should be better for me financially.

Anyone still interested in software sales (since that seems to be the overarching topic of the thread) - have a look at this BusinessInsider article:http://www.businessinsider.com.au/en...00000-400000-2

Just reinforces what OP has been saying this whole thread. If you have the grit and tenacity to work with people and sell complex products, you make yourself valuable for the rest of your career.

When I opened the thread I thought the "made it" part was going to be completely about money and how working 80 hours a week and slowly killing yourself is making it. (according to a lot of FA's in here)

Glad you're working ~30 hours a week and can travel the country. That's "making it" in my opinion. Having money (lot, little, doesn't matter) while being able to have free time to do what you want. You can make 10 million a year but if you're working 100 hours a week, it's not worth it. Plain and simple fact.

I'm from Israel and the biggest industry here is software, there are so many engineers and developers here and many companies set up shop in here. it's another thing that i'm scared of is that while there's high demand there is also a large supply of quality people with college education, with 3 years of experience coding in the army(mandatory service, usually you can get a good job straight out of the army. my service was largely pointless and no experience value), which ultimately leads to companies having the ability to cherry pick anyone they want from a large pool of candidates

and from my measly experience the mentoring thing is true. like i said i wanted to learn programming, and just started bombarding my programming friends with questions to the point where i felt bad i was wasting so much of their time, but they always were glad to help and went out of their way to make me understand.

Do you also think you can leverage programming knowledge into other fields that are somewhat related/not at all related with more money?
in for response op.

it's not that I don't have the means or the knowledge for college. in HS I did AP physics/math/chemistry and coasted easily. Uni in israel is also not very expensive (3k $ year at the best unis). I also scored in top 1% in the israel equivalent of SATs. No brag I think i can complete uni without problems

my main reservation is that it just seems pointless, when you can learn so much outside of college why would you commit 4 years of your life for it? nowadays everything is online, you can access entire engineering degree coursework online from MIT

I thought of pursuing a purely interesting degree which isn't that difficult like philosophy or cognitive science or something, just so I'll have something and it'll legitimately be interesting but if I will I want to do it at like 25 after a few years working. I'll still try to make it in the software industry and purely go for the degree for my self improvement/just to have a piece of paper.

Thoughts? and can you answer original post aswell?

I've been converted. Thanks for saving me. Having an enjoyable career totally eliminated the possibility for me to be spiritual, I'm glad you opened my eyes. God knows that if your paychecks are at a certain level he doesn't love you anymore and you can't believe in god. You are wise beyond your years.

Edit: it always surprises me how much Hollywood impacts your vision of things. In the Hollywood movie I guess this is the part where you surround yourself with coke and hookers and lead an empty life? Contrary to movies (not even that I'm nearly as well off as those in movies) you can lead a spiritual life and still enjoy some nice things along the way. Again, primary goal is to provide for family.
Yeah brah, because you need all of that to provide for your family. You say in your OP that you were "sad/miserable/FA" now, have money, GF, house, cars, ect. Sounds like you're experiencing a brief high because that void is temporarily being filled by whores and money. From your OP "Now 28 and have most everything I could ask for"; meanwhile you could have had what you truly wanted which was happiness, with no job if you embraced yourself instead of letting society push a mission for you to attain, aka money "success" (You attaining the mission just gives the pigs on top what they want; dependent sheeps following out their mission and giving more fuel to the soulless regime)

You seriously think that being an ex-FA and now with money your GF is going to be loyal to you? c'mon face

You're buying into capitalistic Zionist propaganda, if your happiness is dependent on assets you are a hollow person, void of any spiritual pursuits. And don't give me that family bullchit again either, it's a typical scapegoat for people who are following the material narrative but want to seem noble when in reality they're just void filling with pretty things to impress people they don't care about. Seems like you and a lot of the misc puts money, women, status, ect as criteria for "making it".

It's quite sad really how easily people fall into the traps society sets for them
