Proper makes me stoked that I have my hunting licence, otherwise I'd go vegan too.

I didn't mean it as an absolute statement, did I? I didn't anticipate my comment would be so thoroughly scrutinized by the misc police. I did, however, insinuate thatmore often that notthis sort of animal cruelty takes place either in foreign countries with much lower standards of living and/or by foreign employees who come from countries with much lower standards of living. I stand by that fact.

Why call me out anyway? I said I don't consume anything but chicken and fish. Yes, I realize that chicken can, and often are, mistreated as well. I've seen videos of the egg industry as well, so don't bother me with those. For one, chicken and fish are not as sentient an animal as cows, sheep, goats and pigs. They just don't have that sort of awareness. Second, as I've said in many of these threads, I buy the majority of my meat from local farms where I can literally see the free range chicken...

They've realised that they can get more "product" out the door by not even giving the animal enough time to bleed out before cutting it up. More dead bodies out the back = more money.

It really doesnt matter what standards a country has honestly, it doesn't make a difference in the real world. They're not constantly monitored or even enforced. Just check out some UK slaughterhouse vids on youtube for example.

Well, I definitely will not watch a video of anything of that nature. I stopped eating most meat because I couldn't stomach the thought of them being slaughtered... Even when it's done humanely... So videos showing obvious cruelty is 10x worse.

I mainly ask because I know someone (not well) who owns a small meat farm where they raise and slaughter animals all on site. He said federal officials have come out on quite a few occasions - and often unannounced. This is in Canada. So, it can't entirely be unsupervised, although the mass commercial slaughterhouses are probably left alone due to kickbacks or who knows what else... Big profit companies often get "perks" and aren't as scrutinized. Wrong on so many levels, but the truth nonetheless.

In Shanghai I saw they keep a chitload of fish for sale in the minimum amount of water, sometimes with a bubbler, but usually without even enough water for the fish to orient itself upright. So the fish are lying on their sides in a trickle of water just struggling to live. I felt sick and wanted to end their misery.
They torture and have absolutely zero compassion or empathy for animals.
I saw a few walking around with really nice pet dogs, but I got the impression that once that pet got old or sick they just let it loose or kill it ruthlessly. I never saw one of those salted up old dogs like you would in Europe, you know the lifelong companion and friend to it's master. Just young fashion dogs.
