I had the exact opposite yesterday
cop pulls me over tells me I have suspended plates
I ask him if I was supposed to get a notification in the mail he says only if my address is updated with DOT
Asks for DL/insurance, I didn't have my license since I was on my to the gym and only live 1 mi away, cant get my insurance to pull up on phone, says he'll run my info while I try to get my insurance on my phone
Comes back, insurance still not pulling up, tells me to call my insurance company and have them email proof
By this time I have 4 patrol cars surrounding me
Insurance sends proof of insurance to email, but it was on my old car, not new car
Cop asks why I haven't added insurance to the new car yet, I blame it on my gf
I tell Police officer if I had known she didn't transfer insurance I would have done it while I was asking to get proof
He tells me to do it while I'm pulled over and goes back to his patrol car.
Midway through insurance call he comes back and says if I don't take care of it, one of his co-workers might pull me over in the future, take my license plate, tow my car and write me a ticket
Lets me off with a warning

Lulz reminds me of when I was a teen living in Belize and getting stopped randomly by police while riding my bike. Down there, they can just pull you over for no reason and you better not fukking complain. There was one time they stopped me to search me in front of my friends house, and his mother came outside and started barking at the officers calling them a**holes and chit asking why they needed to harass me. To be fair, I was very poor back then and my clothes looked like I borrowed them from a homeless dude.
Op, that cop was a *******. Doing his job or not, he tried to get you when he nodded his head that you could go in your glovebox and then verbally said no. That way if chit went down, he could say he didn't say for you to do anything, and he could cover his back while popping multiple caps in your ass.

Makes no sense for the cop to give you a nod to get your insurance out of your glove box and then tell you to not reach for it and to detain you. Sounds like a miscommunication or either you are lying.
Not sure why you are butthurt. If there was a description matching you then he was just doing his job.
As far as the search, if you didn't want him to search then just say so. Obviously if a cop sees a bag of pills he's going to think its sketchy.
It sucks, but this is one of those circumstances where you just happen to have matched a certain description for a theft. Not a big deal in my opinion. And you still got off with a warning for the ticket. I do understand the inconvenience though.

This sounds excessive , but one thing I don't understand is why you don't have your drivers licence and insurance ready before the cop gets to the door. It seems like it could save a lot of hassle IMO .
I'm in canada , and I always have my licence and insurance in hand as soon as I'm pulled over . The cop comes to my window and it's in hand .
In the USA , would they start shooting as soon as they got out of there car if they seen you grabbing paper work and thinking it's something else like a gun .
Never understood this ?
And could you guys south of the Canadian border please call a truck a truck and not call everything a car . Drives me nuts everytime I watch the news lol

And being handcuffed on the curb on 100 degree day for an hour a little more than a inconvenience.
Like I said I recognized I fukt up. And he was cool enough not to give me a ticket. But man he was super aggressive towards me the whOle time. I was legitimately worried about getting shot. Felt like I was guilty before any proof came up2

Like I said for the 100 time. I recognize looking back now that the dust has settled, I shouldn't have let him search my car. But I was legit worried about being shot or arrested. I've never been in a situation like this before.

.....the worst part about your statement is thatwe don't knowif it happens all the time because its usually the cops word/police report against any civilian witnesses.Yeah, because that happens all the time. Be polite, comply with reasonable requests, take the ticket if you have one coming, but don't let them search your car without a reason.
