Messi is a Barcelona legend because he has a bunch of brutal legendary epic goals in important times as well, even more than Maradona. Dat goal against Bilbao last year on the cup final, against prime Boateng leaving him on the floor like a retarded kid and finishing the best keeper in the world with a beautiful touch, that solo goal at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid in CL semi finals which finished Mourinho's Madrid, etc.
Funny how most Argies say Maradona is the greatest and not Messi.
edit: still laughing at someone comparing the greatest WC goal ever with a club level goal.

This may come as a shock to you but the most skillful players always get kicked the most. Neymar alone on his first season at Barca got kicked enough to make a stupid ass youtube compilation lol. Red logic of peace

Lionel Messi would trade five Ballon d'Or trophies for one World Cup
Barcelona star Lionel Messi admitted he would trade five Ballon d'Or trophies to have just one World Cup for Argentina.
Messi won a gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing but has not won any silverware with his country since, despite the Albiceleste reaching the final at both the 2014 World Cup and 2015 Copa America.
"What a tough question," he said during the Ballon d'Or press conference in Zurich. "But the World Cup is the highest thing you can reach as a player. So the World Cup, definitely."
Argentina have two chances for international success this year as they take part in the 2016 Centennial Copa America in the United States in June, following by the Olympic football tournament in Brazil in August.

if someone scores 30 goals in the bush league romanian league is he better than someone who scores 20 in the prem? oh wait that's why there's coefficients, messi getting rekt by a 36yr old nesta but steamrolling some hack from getafe means that apparently he's the GOAT, lmao

That article you posted means **** brah. Of course he would trade 5 balon de ors lmao, are you stupid? Balon de Or isnt even an important trophy, it just means he was the best on a certain year. If anything, that speaks well of Messi, he cares more about team wins than his own.

Congrats Ronaldo.
Congrats Ronaldo.
Now we have Luis Suarez as a striker and he's putting in BEAST numbers.

I know a lot of Argentinian people and to them Maradona will always be the best until messi wins them a WC.
In 2014 I was in NYC and watched the finals in a Latin bar full of Argentina fans and they destroyed messi for not showing up. Saw some guys ripping his shirt too.

stats don't lie he is the GOAT but over the past 2 seasons even though he's been amazing I question if he's as GOATLY as he is made out to be (if that makes any sense lol)
you look at Neymar scoring 30+ and Suarez scoring 50+ last season and you've got to question how hard is it for top tier players to play for Barcelona right now
I honestly believe if Ronaldinho and Brazilian Ronaldo played in this current Barcelona generation they would have achieved so much more than they did
you've just got to appreciate that Barcelona's way of play is GOAT and over the years Messi has just been the icing on the cake that get's the shine
there will always be questions over Messi's GOAT status until he performs at international level or in another top class league and chances are he will stay at Barcelona until he's ready to end his career in Argentina.

Same goes for Madrid. Look at the players and coaches Ronaldo has had and tell me they're that much worse than Messi with Barca.

brb playing in teams with Iniesta, Xavi, Suarez, Neymar, Busquets, Puyol, Pique, Alves, Abidal, Alba, Rakitic, etc. and winning CL titles and that making you better than Maradona winning the WC with a team of absolute piss.

Think about this one.
If that cuck Higuain were to actually clutch up in the WC final, and two of the Copa America finals and convert those chances (1 being a PK) we would not be here questioning the likes of Messi. It's football and things happen that are sometimes out of Messi's control. Can you imagine if he the WC and two Copa America's were won, he would have such an immense resume then that calling him anything other than the greatest would be wrong. For anyone watching that game there was little to nothing Messi could do that game because he was absolutely swarmed with 3-4 players immediately, he had to rely on others during that game and they just did not show up.

Ronaldo proved his dominance in Portugese league, EPL and Laliga then in Figo era Portugal against big teams. He wrecked everyone in his prime and not to mention is currently the second highest goal scorer in Laliga and is catching up. He joined laliga on the late 2009 and Messi 4 years earlier which is a proof that Ronaldo is better.
Messi has a world class squad in Argentina whereas Portugal doesn't yet he doesn't perform well in FIFA and Copa. If Portugal has the same as 2002 - 2008 squad, Ronaldo would have won the world cup and euros.
That said, Messi is only good with Iniesta Barcelona and training teams in laliga.

Messi carried his team all the way to the finals. Yes, Ronaldo is a great striker, but he can't rival the sheer genius and godly abilities of Messi. So far, Ronaldo played a very poorly tourney. I don't see your point OP.

For anyone watching that game there was little to nothing Messi could do that game because he was absolutely swarmed with 3-4 players immediately, he had to rely on others during that game and they just did not show up.

stats don't lie he is the GOAT but over the past 2 seasons even though he's been amazing I question if he's as GOATLY as he is made out to be (if that makes any sense lol)
you look at Neymar scoring 30+ and Suarez scoring 50+ last season and you've got to question how hard is it for top tier players to play for Barcelona right now
I honestly believe if Ronaldinho and Brazilian Ronaldo played in this current Barcelona generation they would have achieved so much more than they did
you've just got to appreciate that Barcelona's way of play is GOAT and over the years Messi has just been the icing on the cake that get's the shine
there will always be questions over Messi's GOAT status until he performs at international level or in another top class league and chances are he will stay at Barcelona until he's ready to end his career in Argentina.

Messi at age 18 was already having performances that players such as Suarez, Neymar or even CR7 dream about. He was only 19 when he scored that first hattrick against Real Madrid with two superb goals. They werent tap ins fabricated by Xavi or Iniesta, they were goals brilliantly made by Messi. A year later he was winning his first Balon de Or, for having a season that players like Ronaldinho never had, he orchestrated the attack while Xavi and Iniesta orchestrated the ball control. He gave two assists and scored two goals against Madrid on that 2-6 match at the Bernabeu, he had the MVP performance and a goal at the CL final. Just 20 years old. That was just the beggining.
His career is full of 10/10 performances in important matches, superb legendary goals on win or go home matches. Year in, year out, while also breaking all goal scoring and assisting records for both his club and his nation. At the tender age of 26 he was already the top scorer of Barcelona... he was 22 when he scored that legendary solo goal at the Bernabeu to beat Mourinho's Madrid on the CL semifinal, was that because of Iniesta?
He absolutely raped Boateng and Neur last year with one of the best performances of his career. It wasnt Neymar, Suarez or Iniesta who scored that first goal, or who made Boateng look like a fool and dropped him to the floor while shutting Neur up scoring a beautiful lob past him, who just the day before he had said that Messi wasnt scoring against him. It wasnt Iniesta or Xavi who scored that brilliant goal last year against Athletic either who opened the score on the cup final.
Remember that 5-0 game against Madrid, on Mourinho's first clasico? Wanna know who was the man of the match that game? Hint: It wasnt Iniesta. How can everything be thanks to Xavi and Iniesta when Messi has more assists than both of them?
Messi's career is full of 10/10 performances on important moments, he doesnt have 5 Balon de Or's because the world hates Ronaldo. Lets be serious for a moment, and not even bring this Portugal's Gerd Muller to the discussion. CR7 is a great player but simply belongs to a different discussion.
Maradona now, thats a good debate, and everyone has their own opinions, no reason to get butthurt about what someone else thinks. My opinion is that Maradona was a great player that just so happens to have had a brilliant game in 86 in a world cup semifinal which includes the best goal of world cup history. He's a legend in my eyes, he's an icon for Argentina, he's a myth, but simply isnt a better player than Messi. He had a 10/10 performance in a semi final world cup match, who later HIS TEAMMATES turned it into a world cup win on the final, not him. Messi is genius Messi year in year out, and doesnt seems like he will stop anytime soon. His consistency is matched by nobody, except maybe CR7 but people are quickly catching on Ronaldo's ways and calling him out on his tap in selfish playstyle, he simply isnt a genius like the other two.
Messi has been a genius for a long time, while Maradona was a genius every once in a while. Also, Maradona's teammates (who werent ****ty by any means, thats just a retarded and false argument) never let him down.
Its all down to opinion. You can get butthurt about my opinion and respond with whatever nonsense you want to, thats okay, but im pretty sure than once everything its said and done, Messi will be the undisputed GOAT everywhere except on Argentina, where people idolize Maradona because of what he did in that world cup and what mean in a political sense as well, being against England.

barca players made up the core of the spanish squad that won back to back euros and and a world cup, just LOL @ the idea messi winning anything with that team is an achievment
traditionally in club footy or just footy in general the ultimate test is the league not knock out competitions, the ucl is only there as a glamour competition for money and prestige of super clubs playing each other, by virtue of their sporadic fixturing internationals tournaments are also in a knockout format just LMAO @ messi winning the ucl and not maradona means he's better, to compare messi to maradona would be like him being in a team like valencia or villareal and winning the league not some piss ant ucl competition
why does someone who lives in mexico support barca anyway? probably the same type of person who hates on people for supporting chelsea or man city because of 'glory hunting' lmao, plastic soccer fans gonna plastic

"Messi at age 18 was already having performances that players such as Suarez, Neymar or even CR7 dream about."- I can't argue against that but they weren't playing for the best team in the world and football system when they were 18 either.
"he orchestrated the attack while Xavi and Iniesta orchestrated the ball control"- Thank you! Messi wouldn't have been given the opportunity to showcase his brilliance without the ball control that Xavi, Iniesta etc provided as a foundation for the tika-taka football. His inability to reach similar heights at international level is enough evidence to prove that point and you just have to appreciate how influential Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Pique, Puyol and Daniel Alves (very underrated) have been during Messi's glory years at Barcelona. You've got to look at the common factor in success and when it's said and done, the fact is that the Barcelona's Spanish contingent have won with and without Messi.
When watching football I like to appreciate more than just the goal scorers and assist kings because sometimes you don't even have to touch the ball to have had a great influence on a goal. As I've grown older I've started to appreciate interceptions, tackles, hold up play, solid marking, off the ball runs, positioning etc much more.
You mentioned Messi's individual performances in big games and I agree that his moments of brilliance helped win games. But look at the big games when Barcelona have been defeated over the years against the likes of Liverpool (2-2 agg 2007), Man Utd (1-0 agg 2008), Inter (3-2 agg 2010), Chelsea (3-2 agg 2012), Bayern Munich (7-0 agg 2013), Real Madrid (too many to mention lol), and Atletico (2-1 agg 2014 and 3-2 agg 2016). If you watched those games you would have noticed that despite some of them getting lucky, most of them won because they they limited their "ball controllers" and not just because they stopped Messi. You can't on one hand say Messi's moments of brilliance won games for Barcelona then blame his Argentina teammates for him not winning games at international level. It's either Messi's ability/inability to perform won/lost games or you've got to place equal importance on team performance during a win or defeat.
