that is one of the saddest and realest threads, it's just a bunch of brahs talking chit, one crew defends traveling, and doesnt give a fuk if they are broke and the other crew defends staying at one place and trying to make it, but dont realize that time=most important

not a single brah came forward and said that he was a CEO/10k, who HAVE all the time in the world and can go wherever the fuk he wants to go, thus confirming real brahs who made it, do not post on the misc, fuuuuuuaaaak

Yet another preconceived notion that has very little basis in reality: pencil-pushers who work 9-5 jobs don't do it for the sake of having money to blow on as you say 'needless materialism and luxury' - these are people who have families to support and children to raise. Some of them might also have elderly parents who rely on them, as was the case with one of the posters here. Just who are you in a position to support exactly, when you go around taking half the year off in order to do whatever?

And how exactly do you think that will reflect on future employers once they see this general trend in your resume? Do you honestly think you have a rat's arse chance of getting hired at anywhere other than a McDonald's if they know that you are simply going to bail once you make enough money to travel?

You've never met a traveler who has just sat and lazed around a country for six years? Lucky you! I happen to know quite a few. Try 15 years! One of the perks of living in a third world country.
Actually my statements are based on fact. The average person has zero money in their savings account. Yet, the average person has over $10,000 in credit card debt. The average household carries $130,000 in total debt. Please tell me more about how i don't know about materialism and luxury in this country.

There are millions of jobs out there. Millions of seasonal jobs. Who cares what your employer thinks unless you run through life like yourself going, "What if... What if... What if". Do you honestly think that someone whose soul focus is travel and adventure really cares about what some 9-5 HR person thinks? You don't like me ... fine ill go find someone that does.

Really... so you met a guy that sat around and lazily traveled for 6 years? Fruit just fell from the sky to support him? I think not. He made his way some how. And if it was through leeching off of others then blame the enablers.

You have traveling confused with tourism.

I've camped in the woods. I've slept under bridges. I've asked farmers if i can camp on their property. There's also things like couch surfing, work for stay/food, working abroad, etc.

And what do you think is one such major contributor to the size of the American public's debt? You don't think travel has anything to do with it? Those trips to Bali or Hawaii had nothing to do with it? Do you honestly think houses and cars are the only forms of luxury in America? Or are you forgetting that travelling is generally considered a luxury good and service if not done for work purposes?

Umm. Of course you have to care what your employer or HR person thinks of you ffs:They are responsible for hiring you! If they don't hire you, you don't have a job hence you have no income!

Like I said: what sort of work are you going to find with that sort of employment history? And will that work actually leave you with any savings after taking into account all of your travel-related expenditures?

Yes I did, believe it or not. Enablers or not, that isn't the point, the point is that thesepeople exist.

Man I can imagine the interview already.

HR: So I see that there are six month long gaps in between your various places of employment, can you please account for that?

OP: Oh, well when I earn enough money after working for a certain period of time, I quit and go around the world and travel.

I mean seriously? Please in all honesty, do you really think an employer is going to hire you knowing this to be the case?

Yep.Real Fortune 500 material right there.
Not surprised by this logic. You presume that those traveling are walking into Fortune 500 offices and applying. Is this really your argument?

If you don't aspire to be the CEO of a fortune 500 company = lazy. Right?

Sarcasm isn't your strong suit.

Answer my question though: what sort of company will willingly hire a guy that they know will just bail after six months? And will that company be able to provide you with an income that will leave you with enough money to pay for supposed mundane things such as health insurance after taking into account six months worth of travel-related expenditures?

You've clearly never worked in the oil industry.

I met a British guy while traveling that was an arborist. Guy took a massive trip each year. Last one he did was bicycle across South America. He said he had no problems whatsoever finding work every time he returned home. This is just one of thousands of professions where it does not matter.

You bet your arse I've never worked in the oil industry. Do you want to know why? Because it has one of the highest if not the highest mortality rates in the entire blue collar sector. There is a reason why these people are so enthusiastic about hiring people on the fly.

Really smart example there boyo.

Nothing ironic about that.

Tomaytoe toemahtoe can argue semantics all night but in essence it's the same crap. You go from A to B to explore and experience new chit. If travelling is staying in low cost cockroach pits then fine, even on low budget travelling it's still expensive unless like I said before you have relative or friend to stay with. Living like a vagrant on my holiday isn't for me, maybe you but not most.

Because you want to feel safe?

I crush your argument and all you can retort back is about being safe.

I have to ask... do you have any dreams or ambitions? Or were those things dispelled in your late teens and now you slave away for a chance to be one of the people that print the money you slave for?

Want to know why you can't envision traveling and adventure? Because you are one of the cogs in system that prevents you from believing it.

I made my point: the only companies that will hire anyone who they know will just leave after six months are the ones that have either (1) crap pay (2) a really high mortality rate. Really good career opportunities there bud!

I mean, you're right, you're absolutely right. Why should I spend my youth saving up money in order to travel later when I can put my life at constant risk now so that I can travel! Genius.

I do have dreams and ambitions, and that was to be a contributing member of society whilst earning a respectable income at the same time: or do you have a problem with my choosing to pursue medicine as a profession?

I apologize for that comment. Nothing funny about homelessness at all. Had I know that to be the case I would have never brought it up.

I had to live in an abandoned office with my mother and brother for 3 months as a young boy after my parent's separation and it was not a good experience. Again, I apologize, but there is a reason why I am extremely adamant about establishing a safety net for myself.

Your life is always at risk. I suppose you have some magical control over it that the other 6 billion of us don't? Ironic you believe that tomorrow is certain considering your job and the history of your country.

It's pretty clear that your "dream/ambition" is simply more money as safely as possible based off of your rhetoric.

You're way to attached to that idea. Guarantee it is hindering you more than helping.

Tell me... what would you say to someone that is 50 years old, saved their entire life, and then just found out they have terminal cancer and will be dead in 6 months? What do you think that person would say to you?

I could tell you about my grandparents that lost everything in the Great Depression. Afterwards they were hoarders. Ironic considering they of all people should know that nothing is certain and all things can be taken in the blink of an eye.

Not really. I've got 2 weeks vacation right now. Like I said, having a career and earning an income doesn't mean I can't enjoy myself and travel.

You didn't cross a line. I chose that situation.

Not my point.

Real security is an illusion. To worry about it and be beholden to it robs energy from the now. I'm not the first person to express this...

Matthew 6:27 - Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Well, they'd be relieved, on account of the fact that they were able to save up enough to make sure that their children are going to be well provided for. And no, this isn't a hypothetical to me because I've seen it happen in a clinical setting.

The one thing most people worry about at that age, from what I've seen, is how their children will be once they are gone.

So your logic therefore is that I shouldn't worry at all? There is more to a career than earning money you know: some people actually derive actual fulfillment from doing the work that they do.
