About to spend 40% net monthly for rent...What do you spend?

Literally paying extra to have my own 1 bed/1 bath 1100 sq foot apartment in giant brick building.


Gonna be so worth it...

I pay 170 a week and share with 2 girls & even have my own bathroom and even with that I'm seriously contemplating getting my own joint even if it costs me $300 pw which would be about 40%

About 15% which includes mortgage, taxes, and insurance. I probably bought too much house though, and should be closer to 10%.

2818 a month income and rent is 1450 for a two bedroom which I split with a roommate.

That being said, I live in Oakland (right next to San Francisco) and I live close enough where I walk to work and don't have a car so I have zero insurance/car payment/ parking costs.

My last place was about 40%. It was nice and do-able, but I wouldn't spend that much again.

eta: ^^^ I was so close to the city and public transport that I didn't need a car either and my building had a gym.

No way i can pay 40%-50% on a place i basically just sleep in every night. Add in the rest of the bills and youre basically living paycheck to paycheck

I don't think he realizes were talking take home pay here anyways

he is saying over 25% is house poor. 70k a year is about 50k take home as a single/no dependent person. 1.2k rent is about 30%. Most decent sized cities it is hard to find a 1 bedroom in a decent area for under 1.2k. And 70k is a good salary
