I found a small starter home next to my alma mater:

$125,000
I could walk to a bank and get a loan right now with a great down payment, but the butt of the joke is that the yearly property tax in Connecticut is almost $10,000 for this city.

The bigger joke is HOA dues lmao. property I guess I can understand...since they are taxing us for having established this country and property for us to live on basically.
But HOA dues? wtf. they don't do sht but put restrictions on what you can/can't do where you live, AND they make you pay money for it. just lol. Hope i never had to live under an HOA...but unlikely

Perhaps you should move to a more conservative state. Here (NC), taxes for a $125K home cost ~$700/year. And a $125K home here is probably a lot nicer than a $125K home there

Come down to atlanta, taxes in my $400k 5bed 3 bath house is about $3k a year. Weather is nicer too.
hell my dads beach houses in SC are under $20k a year and those houses are worth over $1.5 mil.

As a CT brah I feel your pain. My suggestion to you is to look for a different city... only city I know where the mill rate is nearly that high is Hartford. Look at surrounding towns, many have much better rates. CT is screwed though... Also you might be lucky and have the house appraised at lower than 125k making your taxes less.
Shelton is a pretty good town and taxes are amongst the lowest in CT.

cot dayum that's crazy. I just sold my home in central Pa for $162,000 and was paying $1,600 per year. Built a new home in a different school district and now they are $4,500 per year. I flipped my chit at that amount.
