So there was a fire in the olympic village. Caused by a cigarette (smoking banned in village). Smoke alarms didn't work...

It doesn't negate the fact that Chicago's almost junk status with moody's influenced Chicago's bid.

And in order to get the olympics the government probably spent literally all its money on facilities and bribes, quadruple bankrupted itself so it will never be able to afford to clean the place up.

Rio 2016: Swimmers need to ingest only three teaspoons of water to be almost certain of contracting a virus
A report commisioned by the Associated Press has revealed that water in Rio's Olympic and Paralympic venues holds viral levels 1.7m times what would be considered alarming in the United States and Europe just five days before the Games get underway

The sad part is, Chicago was up for the Olympics this year. If they decided to host the Olympics in Chicago this weekend, the city is more prepared than Rio.
I wonder who got paid to have them host down there?
I also think when they made the decision 6 years ago, the world didn't like Obama and wanted to stick it to him since Chicago is his hometown.

Rio's Olympic air: Dirty, deadly and no cleaner legacy from Games.
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-ol...-idUSKCN10C24T
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-ol...-idUSKCN10C24T
Rio de Janeiro's air is dirtier and deadlier than portrayed by authorities and the Olympics' promised legacy of cleaner winds has not remotely been met, an analysis of government data and Reuters' own testing found.
Thousands die annually in Rio's metropolitan area of 12 million people because of complications related to the air. People exposed to the pollution have higher risks of lung cancer, heart attacks, strokes, asthma and other diseases.
Dozens of Athletes have already had belongings stolen. This just gets worse and worse. Watch the leftist media make out how it's a huge success though.Thousands die annually in Rio's metropolitan area of 12 million people because of complications related to the air. Went to Rio in 2014 for the World Cup and experienced no issues. Granted, renovating a soccer stadium is simpler than creating a literal "city" of venues for the Olympics. But I never felt endangered and it was clean, for the most part. Locals are friendly unless you step into the favelas after dark. The infrastructure and public transit wasn't on the level of Tokyo or NYC, but then again it doesn't need to be. Rio is a wonderful city with so much culture and natural diversity.
That being said, the photos op posted are disgusting. If the current condition of the water is even but a fraction of what it was in those photos, they should cancel the swimming/rowing events and host them elsewhere. But don't judge Rio as a city by a few photos. There are issues, but they are overblown. Beijing wasn't supposed to be ready, they were fine. Sochi wasn't supposed to be ready, they were fine. Rio will be fine.

Tokyo in 2024 will blow this Olympics out of the water without a doubt. There won't be any pollution concerns.... or transit concerns... or crime concerns.... or housing concerns. Blows my mind how some of these 3rd world countries get to host an international event like this.

You can AIRbnb one of these nice shanties for a very reasonable price. Tetanus shot is an extra fee. AIDS comes with no charge. Kidnapping insurance is also recommended!
