Here you go, brah.
I (33, self-employed, 25-hour work week, paid off flat, but I've reached the pay ceiling in my profession unless I'm willing to work more hours which I'm not, LTR) wrote this email to my sis (39, employed, married, family) last night. We're continents apart. Haven't seen her in four years. Only met my nephew when he was born four years ago.
She sent me a few pics of her son, gave me a few compliments on my appearance and wrote a few "words of wisdom" on life and aging.
This was my response, which sums up how I feel at the current point in my life:

He's a cute kid, no doubt about it.
Thank you for the kind words. Yes, I look pretty good. But it's all vanity. I'm not working on my physique to attract the best possible partner so that I can start a family (I will never "settle down"). I'm not working on my physique to be a stronger warrior and to able to better defend my family/tribe/state.
Yes, it makes me feel good, gives me confidence, gains the respect and attention of others (not all, of course, but enough), but in the end it's still just a sterile pursuit, as is anything that isn't connected with family and tribe.
I don't take anything for granted. I know that today I can be healthy and tomorrow I can be diagnosed with cancer or lose my leg in a car accident.
What matters is that I no longer fear death the way I used to in my 20s, for I've lived, experienced and seen enough to kill that deep fear and cowardice.
I also know that there is no longer anything "big" that I can achieve in my life. I will never be rich. I will never raise children. I will always be against the modern world, which is steadily getting worse and worse.
Congratulations on your son. Raise him as well as you all can. Enjoy every moment. Cherish the stability. Age gracefully.

I've been stuck in this mindset lately of there being all these restrictions but the more I read and the more I get out and about I am realizing how big of an idiot I am. You can literally do anything you want, within the confines of the laws, etc. You can pack up and move tomorrow if you want, you can be a street artist, you can go live in the woods, you can start your own company, you can just work at McDonalds and smoke weed, you can build a game from scratch.
I actually think that thread about the manic bipolar episode that dude had really got me thinking. Our mind is the #1 barrier between us and doing what we want and keeping us from taking risks, etc.
I feel like I always knew this, but never truly understood it. I feel like an idiot. It's almost like I have this feeling ingrained in me that you get a job, go out with friends, get married, get a house, have kids, save money, retire, and buy some things and do some stuff along the way.
That's just my little thinking for today. Want to hear some of your thoughts brahs.

1. Switching jobs to make more money to...
2. Pay off massive debt
3. Save money for the hike
4. Gearing up
5. Watching your boss/coworkers/parents freak out
6. Selling and letting go of material things
The people on the hike that i met that intrigued me the most were the ones that were essentially broke. Literally no money to their name. Yet, these people would work odd jobs along the way and just make things work. Some of these people had been living life like that for years, and the experiences and number of places they've been was astonishing. I followed one guy after the hike that managed to get all the way to Vietnam, teach, and marry an asian chick. Some of the people i met experience more in one year than most people do their entire lives.
I can certainly tell you the average person doesn't understand this mindset or approach to life. I've had enough conversations with friends and family and various other people about it ... and no matter what... it is just alien to their thinking. Its like trying to explain how awesome sex is to a virgin. They just wont truly understand till they get some.
And lord... i've heard every excuse for why people can't live freer lives, and i have seen real life rebuttals to them all.
TOO OLD - Saw plenty of 60, 70, and 80 year olds
GOT KIDS - Seen a mother hiking with her 12 year old daughter on the Great Divide hiking trail
TOO FAT - Seen 300lb people
TOO SICK - Met a guy dying of cancer that was hiking
And im not simply talking of hiking/traveling. It applies to everything. Do what you want, don't take no for answer... especially from yourself.
One of the best things I have ever heard was, "If YOU CANT... that is EXACTLY why YOU MUST." Life is about growing/evolving, and that doesn't happen to the "I CANT" crowd who sit around living in a bubble of fear and comfort.
People that sit around seeking escape and adventure through video games, TV, movies, and every other form of escapism are simply deluding themselves. You want more... the proof is in the pudding. But clicking the left mouse button 300 million times to slay a D3 treasure goblin isn't going to give you any real lasting peace. I remember sitting around listening to my grandfather talk about his WW2 experiences. Sitting around listening to grandpa talk about his Diablo 3 runs doesn't sound very fascinating.

Like another poster said, my outlook on life is to be as happy as I can be, make great, long-lasting memories with loved ones/friends/family, and have a positive influence on every person I possibly can. My goal is to be an honest, loving, positive and authentic person that can help you find the best form of yourself.
Most of my life I grew up around a lot of negative and mean-spirited people. I can't believe how much life and happiness was taken from me because of it, but at least that experience made me who I am today, so how can I be upset about any of it. The last few years have gotten so much better when I found my purpose and I don't allow anymore BS in my life.

The biggest problem with people is that as they get older they constantly feel like the time do things right ... or do what they really want has come and gone. Hence why you hear older people constantly say, "I'm too old to go back to school" or some other BS chit.man, i can relate to this. I loathe family reunions (actually have one tomorrow...can't wait smh ) because its always the same thing: "So, Rushem, what's new with you?" "uhh you know just doing my own thing". No one understands the way I think. They think that because I don't have a job I'm a bum and a loser. But in reality I'm 20 years old and I am trying to grow an online business so I don't end up like them; clocking in and out depressed all day. This is literally the last summer I've got free before I'll be forced into finding a job and once you end up in the rat race it is 10x harder to escape. It's just so hard to explain to...anyone, really, even my parents, because they all have traditional jobs. If I were to say to their faces "oh yeah I'm trying to make money without being tied down to a job" they'd look at me like im an arrogant arsehole. It's not even that I look down on having a job, its just that 90% of people don't enjoy theirs and I don't wanna be part of that...
so I guess being the 'son/brother/nephew/cousin that is a lazy bum' is what I'll have to be in their eyes...that is, until I make it. I find it funny that no one, and I mean no one truly believes in you until you actually make it. Not your girl, siblings, parents, family, friends...they may believe you can, but not that you will. But by then, I won't need them to understand, lmao. Paradox. Also by 'making it' I'm not talking a certain dollar amount per year...I just want freedom.
long rant but hey i feel a bit better now lol.

What i mean by them silently crushing you is that most people aren't usually a-holes about your aspirations. What they usually do is subconsciously shoot down your views/aspirations in very subtle ways. Them simply changing or ignoring the subject is one example.

sub'd to this thread, hopefully we can keep this going.
Going to pick up a few books this week, most likely The Power of Habit and a few more, any recommendations? Started by making my bed this morning, feels weird.

Yes, making your bed is weird. My mom always made me do it before school when I was younger. So I started with that habit again. Feels really stupid, but you sort of start to see what happens as you keep doing it. Hard to explain.
Power of Habit is good, but be warned it does get a little repetitive and focuses a lot on examples. Opens your mind though. I liked it. Also and obvious one is Dale Carnegie's How to Make Friends and Influence People. The first 50 pages changed my life lol. Just with daily interaction with people. And literally all of my family kept asking my parents what is up with me because suddenly I am way more projective in terms of optimism and smiling, enjoying life, etc.
There are more books I'll have to post in here. Having a brain fart right now.
And some other interesting and good points in here. This is really helping me right kind of understand certain aspects of life and figure out what to kind of focus on going forward.

Here's the thing. I believe that on a very subatomic level that we are designed to want more. It's like the universe itself in a nutshell... constantly expanding, organisms constantly evolving, and human beings (the so far ultimate player in the game) always wanting more.
Unlike most animals who simply eat, sleep, and phuck ... we think and dream. And the problem with that is, it creates a sense of duality in us that the majority of us cant seem to reconcile. Furthermore, our modern society makes it 10x worse. IMO, its that duality that started this thread and causing people to read it.
The primal side of us (eat, sleep, phuck) is so easily taken care of that its detrimental to us. Want food? Go to the store. Want sleep? Here's a nice comfy bed. Want phuck? Porn. The part that wants to dream, grow, and explore is corrupted by flawed social conditioning. No you can't do that! You got to go to school, get a job, get married, have kids, save for retirement! Oh you want success... well that's CEO 100K/year, fancy house, fancy car, hot wife!
We're never at peace with our primal side and we're never at peace with our spiritual side (the dream and exploring part) thanks to modern society. Hence the duality. We've created all this technology, we've been to the moon, and use telescopes to gaze into the universe ... yet ... 95% of the people on this planet are completely phucked up and lost.
The only thing that matters in life is finding peace and happiness on a personal level and sharing it. And the only time i've personally found peace and happiness is when i embraced struggle, went against societal norms, and made life about the acquisition of knowledge and not stuff. If there is an afterlife, i'm pretty sure icanttake my car to it, but i might be able to take my thoughts/experiences/knowledge.
We've come so far as a species and yet most people walking around are just miserable cucks with fancy phones, leased cars, overabundant houses, and chit loads of debt. Our species priorities are pretty phucked up if you ask me.

And that's why most men are thirsty, materialistic, miserable WK cucks.
If I could bareback two or three HBB sex slaves a week, work, train, eat, play sports with my bros, read/watch something interesting, have a quiet wife taking care of my son(s) and home, I'd be very happy. I know, because I experienced that life (aside from the wife and sons) in my late 20s when I was blowing a small inheritance on barebacking HBB whores in my native land in Eastern Europe.

Many things western society almost completely falls flat on... and you kind of described one of them. That is... a tribal like atmosphere. An atmosphere where you have your bros, your women, your kids, and your elders working together. In this day and age men and women are usually divorced, kids alienated, your bros you only see on the weekend, and the elders are tossed into nursing homes.

I'm just another pea in a giant pod and at the end of the day, I'd rather not be alive. Yeah, I have some good moments, good days etc. but if I could immediately end it, I would. That, or I'd sign a contract to have someone do it for me when I least expect it because I would probably get scared and try to back out last minute.
I'm too soft to commit suicide, so I always have it in the back of my mind that I wish I could press a button to instantly die. Basically, at the end of the day, f**k life.

It doesn't make sense to me. I had down moments in my life. A lot actually. But I never viewed it as I was depressed necessarily. Down, yes, but I always see the good in everything.
What do you like to do? What do you wish your life could be like? Don't give me the "just wanna be dead" answer. If you had to pick a perfect life, what would it be like?

I posted this in another thread, but basically this.

You start to think about the millions and billions that have died and think about how alone they probably were in their last moments, regardless of what their lives were like, and how brutal and unforgiving life is regardless of what you've accomplished and what your dreams are.
I've basically already come to make peace with myself and that when i die i'll be forgotten, like billions before me.
In order to 'cope' with it, i've come to a sort of agreement with myself. that when it comes to my life i 100% remove any negative thoughts from my head. Life is 100% what you make it. There's no point pontificating about it's meaning, or writing these depressing diatribes about the state of the world.
The world is an awesome place, full of awesome people. If you don't get that, then you're just part of the problem.

I may still be a tad on the young side but here are my thoughts. Basically agreeing with the posters saying life is all about happiness
I was raised well, got a good education, lived in a few countries, and now have a stable job with decent income. I believe life can nicely be summed up in that nice little picture of the man ageing with the titles of time/money/energy (cant be fukd looking for it since im on my phone).
At the end of the day, i want to just spend my time with my family and friends, no matter where they are in the world. But of course you need money for this and you certainly need time. I firmly believe i can achieve this and its the only reason i work to be honest.
My life you can say revolves around my well being and my social circle and not around work. At the end of the day, i truly dont care about my job enough for it to consume the majority of my life. I honestly believe i could have went to uni for anything and i would turn out the same, its just a damn job and it would be monotonous no matter what type of job it is. Fuk the title or research, im not gonna discover something new, fuk teaching, fuk the extra ten twenty or whatever grand i could potentially make. If you make a decent enough amount to support yourself and future family and then to attempt some further money management then you are good to go.
Just be happy brahs. You see/hear so many of those scenarios where the old one is on their deathbed saying if they could change one thing it would be to spend more time with their families and friends instead of working so much. So why do we not listen to this advice and try our best to make it happen?

I've been living in this chit bubble my entire life trying to be what my parents and family expect of me but I am so unhappy that I almost committed suicide some years ago because it made me so unhappy. I want to branch out and experience life and not be afraid to do things even if I lose family members in the process I don't care. They do t speak to me anyhow so it won't be much of a loss

this is why i decided to join the navy after I graduate from college. I don't want to be stuck in an office for the rest of my life. Even though I could be making much better money, I'd rather have life experience and make great memories. It's much more valuable in my opinion. The money can always come later (or right now if I put more effort) because there are so many opportunities in the world these days.

I disagree about the work part. Why waste so much time doing something you don't enjoy? at least work on your passion or something you enjoy in the meantime so you can eventually make a living off of it. Otherwise, I agree with a lot of what you said

I guess what im trying to say is everybody hates their job haha few enjoy it truly. Im sure there can be stats to back up my claim more or less. Thats just my opinion though, i feel like i would be bored doing whatever job, which is why im happy my parents just pushed me down a certain career path so i can make the most of my situation. You may be different of course, but my attitude is like this.

What if we live in a world where everything makes sense? There is no mystery to how life was created or what happens when you die, etc. However, when you go to sleep in that world, you are born into this world. When you die in this world, you wake up in that world. The average nights sleep in that world is equal to ~80 years in this world. The people who die early in this world actually just set their alarm early in that world, the people who live to 100+ just overslept in that world. It's possible
