Except these guys work off commission. same type of animal as tipping except you have to deal with some ******* named ashley telling you that you cant cancel your account. then you spend an hour on the phone fiddle ****ing around trying to talk to someone that turns off whatever it is you want.

Reps start out the month with a full commission, but every canceled product deducts from that amount. Once reps fall below a certain threshold, they get no commission at all. That means a rep could get all the way to the second-to-last day of the pay period only to have a customer cancel four products. Suddenly the rep is below her goal, losing $800 to $1,000 off her paycheck.

lol fukin entitled wait staff. If you are a chitty waiter, you get chitty tips. I'm sure the waiter was some coddled mid 20's baby who took women studies in college and thinks its the worlds fault she can't find a real job. She's lucky he left money at all. If i had received service that bad, i would complain until the manager comps the entire meal.

I work in IT, end user support, customer facing technician.....whatever you want to call it, I deal with vendors, clients, customers, and employees.

If at anytime I belittle, berate, talk down to, get snippy with any of those people....they write an email to my manager and my manager and I discuss it. You really think after 4-6 emails I would still have a job? Doesn't matter how good your job is, you do it all the same because you're getting paid to provide a service. I do not get a tip for being nice to them. I just know its part of my job to be nice to people and provide them with a sense of trust and loyalty.

A customer service experience is why people go out.

So you're wrong, most likely you're young and naive to think this will all fall apart because tipping goes away. A customer service rep of Comcast or Dish does not get tips yet they are still to remain professional at a kiosk or on the phone with irate customers.

I admit that last point is a bit of a reach on my end.

Let's try again though. Say we give a better hourly and service in unaffected.

Do you think food prices won't go up? Restaurants are just gonna keep food prices on par with how they currently are and up the wages of their employees.

As it stands now you actually have a sliding scale on the price of your food depending on service. That scale should still not run all the way to $0, that's still bullsh*t.

In a normal profession where tipping is not a thing you pay for their service, whether good or bad, at their fixed price whether you like it or not. Go ahead and get rid of tipping. You strip all of your flexibility then at that point. You will probably still get varying degrees of service even with tipping vanishes, but those times you do get bad service you'll be stuck paying the higher food prices rather than reduced prices with a little bit of wiggle room on top to slide down the tip.

Let's put this into an example.

Say your burger is $10 right now. Let's say you get pretty average service and leave a $2 tip. $12 total. You come in again and the service is bad. You leave a $1 this time, $11.

Now let's remove tipping. You come in and your burger is now $12 when you order it. Service is terrible this time. But hey you don't have to tip!!! Now you come in again and service is average again. Still $12.

Going all the way to 0% of a tip isn't necessary to get the point across that the service was poor. Trust me. A server who handed them a $128 tab and got back $10 would very much get the point. Maybe they had a bad night. They arent getting rewarded with the $10 tip. Flip it the other way and remove tipping and give them a higher hourly? Again maybe they had a bad night, now they're getting their standard hourly instead of being penalized for only getting the $10 tip (yes only) in the other scenario. I guarantee they'll get more on bad night #2 where their hourly is fixed higher than they do getting docked to below 10% in the first scenario.

Basically you do not have to go all the way to 0%. That is pure *******ry.

All of you really think you'll get better service if they get rid of tipping and up the hourly pay? LMFAO think again.

It's a pretty good system, don't be a prick and leave $0.
So if you go out to eat and your food comes out cold and undercooked and you eat it and get sick you still gonna tip?

So I didn't need to really read all that and I will answer your question pretty quickly and easily.

The market decides what has value and what does not.

If you start charging 30$ for a house salad and you bought all the products from Walmart.....rest assured you will not be selling that salad at all. Hence, price drop to sell it.

If sushi stops being a trend, that means less fishing and lower prices for most fish......market decides that.....as in looking in the mirror.

There is a turning point in what people are willing to pay for things.

How about how much those people make as well as the turnover rate for a job like that compared to servers?

If I have the choice of paying $12 for a burger or $10 for a burger and $2 for bad service I would rather just pay $12 for the burger and no tip. Why does it matter if food prices go up when tipping goes away. Tipping goes away, wages rise and prices rise. But I'm still paying less for my meal bc the rate that the food rises will be less than 20% gratutity so won't matter to me. You send 150 on a meal, with 20% tip its $180. You spend $150 with no tip but raised prices it will come out to $165-175 I'm guessing so I would be spending less either way. Burgers are going to rise 1 dollar or 2, drinks 50 cents, steak 3 dollars vs 20% tip kk.

Brah, those are sells reps, not CAE's. And a sales rep that does not make money does not stay a sales rep longer than it takes to print our his/her last paycheck. Their turn around is pretty dam high.....at least in my area.

I worked for Comcast for 3 years, trust me regular customer service that you call into for complaining about your stupid bill and how your internet doesn't work makes flat rate hourly.

You don't have to obviously. I said you're a prick if you tip 0%. Plenty of pricks in this world. Leaving a tip under 10% is a penalty.

This is the discrepancy here. You cheap bastards think under 10% is still some kind of reward. You're looking at it the wrong way big time. It's easy to see why. It's framed as an "add on" at the end when your check comes so I get it. Psychology major here so I know all about framing. That's all that's happening ITT right now, a framing effect.

You need to really step back and think about it. It's not a reward leaving an under 10% tip.

CAE's where I was were starting off at 8.75$/hr. I started out making 11.75/hr as a tech, after 2 months got a dollar raise, and 6 months got another dollar raise from going CT1->CT2->CT3.

Sales rep were min wage and commission based. They only made money if they sold products and those customers followed through with the install.

Jane Doe sells a triple play with 3 digi boxes.....Comcast gives her 120$ (dont recall exact money but its pretty nice). If that customer that ordered that triple play downgrades, or just says nothxjoff.jpg......Jane Doe now has that 120$ deducted from her pay next pay period.

We all got employee discount with cable. You only had to pay rental fees and you got everything, we even got Playboy for free until Playboy backed out of the employee pricing contract....PPV was 50% off including major fights, games etc....internet was 20mb down and add 10$/month and get 50mb service....

What if you left say a 5% tip on a $300 bill? That's $15. $15 on top of your (albeit less than minimum wage) salary for bringing out some plates of food and refilling some drinks.

How is that $15 not a reward?

Maybe i'm not getting it, being from the UK and all.. But we don't tip and customer service is good.

Maybe i'm not getting it, being from the UK and all.. But we don't tip and customer service is good.
Americans are great at not putting themselves in others shoes, so they cannot comprehend a life outside of having to tip.

sry brah

The economy will crash in everyone's eyes if we stop tipping

btw SoutheastBeast1, what about strippers? Is tipping optional depending on her body type and if she let me touchy touchy? Or should I tip no matter what because they are putting themselves out there....

Tipping is a given. You know this heading in.

It's a sliding scale depending on how good the service is, but the scale does not run to $0 IMO. That's degeneracy.

All of you really think you'll get better service if they get rid of tipping and up the hourly pay? LMFAO think again.

It's a pretty good system, don't be a prick and leave $0.
The patron was a degenerate so no surprise there

But I'm still paying less for my meal bc the rate that the food rises will be less than 20% gratutity so won't matter to me. You send 150 on a meal, with 20% tip its $180. You spend $150 with no tip but raised prices it will come out to $165-175 I'm guessing so I would be spending less either way. Burgers are going to rise 1 dollar or 2, drinks 50 cents, steak 3 dollars vs 20% tip kk.
Let's not pretend like you've ever left a tip anyway

I don't really have a firm opinion on this though if service is bad I could see giving 0. Kind of depends if they just had bad service, a lot of other things can happen. Even disrespect of the customer.

If you have a $300 bill you're at a pretty fancy restaurant which means being hired there is fairly competitive and servers tend to perform better. If that restaurant expects to maintain that level of service and tipping goes away they're going to have to pay servers more per hour than other restaurants to make sure they keep getting better servers providing higher quality service

Yes it's possible to get bad service at a place like that. No one is going to get fired over one bad night. If it's repetitive they will get fired at place like that. The way it works now you as the consumer at least get to dock them to some degree on their bad night.

You can either have the option to dock them somewhat (you still shouldn't go to 0%) or you can have it already built in and pay more than $300, likely more like $350 after prices are raised after the restaurant is forced to pay more to their employees per hour. So now you've still received the bad service, that waiter who had 1 bad night still won't be fired, that waiter will end up with higher pay from that bad night.

Tipping is a good thing for the customer. It gives them a degree of power. Taking that power to the extreme and giving 0% is *******ry even if the service is bad.

It is sad that we are at the point that servers will be lazy (generalization) and not do their job to the best of their abilities because they aren't getting tipped from people who aren't obligated to tip. If you hate serving that much, get another job that will pay better without being a server. If I tell the server right away I don't plan on tipping, that shouldn't negate them working as hard as they would expecting a tip from me.

My biggest beef with tipping is that it shouldn't be based on percentage of the bill. Say the server gets me as many drinks as my friend. Service was the same for both of us, but I got a steak, my friend got an app. 1 plate only each. His plate was $10 and mine was $50. we both tip 20%. Why should I have to pay $10 vs my friend only paying $2? Both are 20% tips for doing the exact same work for both of us.

DeAngelo has a minimum 3 starts for the Steelers. He will go off and say "tip that".

But the same people that complain right now about tipping (and dont tip) wont even go to the restaurant then. Theyre just skating by on lower food prices and not tipping.

Why is DeAngelo Williams a degenerate? Because he's black?
