Thanks man, that's what I'm planning on doing. I don't think it's this bad that I need rehab at this point, I just wanted to reach out to the bros on the misc for support.

We are here for you, man. Have you sought therapy? Did not read thread but I am heavily connected to the substance abuse and mental health industry and I want to make sure you are seeking the help you need.

DO NOT quit cold turkey (on your own.) You need professional help and the structure that a 12-step program and professional guidance will give to you.

There is absolutely zero chance you will continue to get away with this, vodka smells on your breath for a start.

I quoted the rat study a few posts ago, in theory 'addiction' is not a thing, it's just a buzz to replace something else that holds your attention/enthuses you. Can't link, on mobile, easy enough to find, controversial but definitely worth reading.

Rehab can be good but it is also highly overrated. I know many people who have had 5 years + clean with no rehab and I know people who have been to rehab over 11 times and still use. Everyone is different.

Cold turkey was the only way to go for me. I felt fine again after about three days. My problem wasn't with alcohol but withdrawals are withdrawals. I hear that they treat alcoholism with ******.

You can't really say that rehabilitation is overrated when 1) it is a multi-billion dollar business that has been around forever and 2) statistics show that it helps a lot more people that it fails. Your anecdotal evidence as to why it is "overrated" is meaningless and has no place in a thread where the OP has an issue when chemical dependency. IF OP goes to rehab and it works, then he is beginning his recovery from alcoholism. If it fails, he is right back in the same place where he began. He should absolutely seek rehab.

all I can tell you is go to AA read the big book AKA alcoholics anonymous detox in an inpatient program or go to an intensive out patient program or fix the issues that make you wanna drink you've got a thinking problem not a drinking problem if you just make changes to improve your life you'll probably stop drinking alcoholically you are probably depressed or are unmotivated or what ever the case may be & it causes you to drink excessively because you think it makes you feel or think things are better which is why you have a thinking problem not a drinking problem

Sources?

OP expressed that he does not want to go to rehab. You would rather have him not attempt to quit at all? I am saying it has merit but is overrated. It is possible to quit and stay clean without rehab.

I do not drink as heavy as you OP I do not drink until the evening, at which point its heavy drinking. But I have been using alcohol to curb anxiety. I have a really hard time focusing on one thing and get anxious very easily. Alcohol gets rid of all my symptoms. But obviously the more you drink and become use to alcohol the more I needed. I have recently went to get medication for anxiety and have since began to drink less. I understand the "no cold turkey" train of thought. But a lot of people do it successfully. One method a friend used was to get a calendar and put a red X through every day that you do not drink. Hold yourself too that and you will get to the point you will feel ashamed if you aren't putting a red X every day. Which mentally associates a negative feeling with alcohol.

Check yourself into rehab OP. Best thing you can do.

The withdrawals are gonna be bad, but if you can eventually quit for good you're gonna be able to turn your life around quickly.

good luck mane

I always fukking hate it when people joke and say "LOL im such an alcoholic I had soooo much to drink last night XD"

It takes away the meaning of the word, and so when people like you who are in the depths of a serious addiction are brave enough to admit they have a problem with alcohol society doesnt respond the way they should. Real alcoholism is serious fukking chit on par with any other drug addiction, I really hope you overcome this chit.

If I may ask though how did it start? Did it kind of creep up on you, or did you start really just going at it pretty hard? You mentioned you dont binge drink to the point of blackout, but did it start that way? Like did you party pretty hard originally or did you always just have enough to get buzzed and then you just started getting buzzed more and more frequently?

anyways good luck brah I hope you make it srs

This. Most people can smell/spot someones who's been drinking from a mile away. I've seen people lose jobs for drinking at work because they thought no one could tell or couldn't smell the vodka. They know, OP. If not they'll figure it out eventually.

Be strong, OP! There's still time to reverse this addiction and not go down that dark, hopeless path of hard-core alcoholism. See a doctor to assess what can be done to detox then join a support group like AA. You aren't alone in your problem. I wish you the best with your recovery.
