Think about what it would feel like to meet someone in a bar without the backdrop of Oh, but I could also just go on Tinder. It would feel like a lot more precious of an opportunity.
Dating apps do not seem like an efficient way to produce relationships. They are an efficient way to move through your options.
So far the link Sword posted is good. Won't be able to read all of it before I head out this morning but definitely will when I get home tonight. That initial getting over the hump of "yes, no, hmmm" in dating seems to be the issue because why not just go find another opportunity instead. As we've all mentioned numerous times in here before too, with online dating at least, there are great women on there, they just last about 3 seconds before they're done with it after they find someone. I've met 2 like that before.

Ranger.... every consider that some of these girls might actually be intimidated by YOU? And that might be the reason that some of them ghost?

You're fit/jacked, decent looking and capable of carrying on good conversation.... You have a job that pays a decent salary and you're worldy. It wouldn't be a stretch for at least some of these women to look at all that and think that they can't compete. As crazy as it sounds, a lot of women are insecure as hell and will look elsewhere rather than subject themselves to potential heartbreak.

I see you like using misc lingo when it doesn't fit as well. Seems to be the standard around here. It's not cope you fcking tard. It's about settling and giving something a shot vs thinking there's always something better and moving on. No **** women (and men) have always had options. No one said anything differently. In modern dating there seems to be some ADD attribute attached to it. You just throw around words like "cope" when it doesn't even fit. No one is trying to cope with anything, it's about finding reasons behind the shift in dating so you can understand it better. The mass availability of options through online dating and seeing fake highlight reels (********, instagram, etc) of people's lives has shifted perception of healthy relationships and instead ofsettling for someone that meets 3/4 of your criteria, it's much easier to hold out for the person who matches 9/10 except that often doesn't happen like in the case of my ex who's still searching for Mr. right to have kids with instead of just giving it a shot with someone.

People have done large research papers about this very thing, hell, there's two posts just here from the Atlantic about it. Yet Pondus the resident narcissist has all the answers.
This is my thought as well.

This was my thought as well. Ranger, how much info do you typically disclose to these women on a first date? Also do you have a picture?

Resident narcissist? Really, bro?

Cope is not misc lingo. I's short for coping mechanism. It is a psychology term and it was absolutely befitting.

Almost EVERYONE would pass on a 3/4 criteria. That's only 75%. A letter grade C! AVERAGE!! If you don't meet at least 8/10, I got some bad news. No one is impressed by average. In addition, it is not 3/4 or 8/10 it's XXX/100's. Out of all the hundreds if criteria for attraction, you have no idea what the other person values most. DON'T TAKE IT PERSONALY IF YOU DON'T MEET THE CRITERIA!!!! It's different for everyone and much of it is subconscious, so it's more of a "feeling" than logical. 75/100 ain't **** especially if the missing 25% is what she values most.

You are grossly oversimplifying what is actually going on. What you are doing is called rationalization. You think that things were nearly perfect because she said they were, yet she still dumped you? Guess what, she was LYING and you fell for it. Been there, done that. Action > Words. But hey, it's not because you were not good enough for her in her eyes, it's because she had options. It's about fit, not options. I REPEAT:HER EYES. That doesn't mean you are not good enough, because I'm sure you are. You just need to find a woman that thinks you are the best fit. If everything you do and represent is on point, then it's a numbers game. Otherwise, make some changes. I always think there is something to work on.

You don't want a woman that consciously settles for you. It will only end up badly. If you are not her 10/10 you WANT her to dump you sooner, because she definitely will later. If you are okay with a woman settling for you, then you are settling too. The divorce rate is so high BECAUSE people settle. If everyone held out for their 9/10 there wouldn't be such a high divorce rate.

I've said it before, I think the problem is that you are attracted to a certain type of woman that just isn't right for you, so you keep getting the same results. Address that first.

In going to a psychologist for the past 18 months because of my divorce I learned that I was attracted to a certain type of woman. I now know what to look out for and avoid these women.

I went out on a date and the woman basically told me I was perfect the WHOLE date and then when I went to set up a second date she didn't seem interested. Was I hurt or upset? NO, more like dumbfounded, but then it all made sense. I 100% dodged a bullet because she was just telling me what she knew would boost my ego at the time and she was a PsyD!!! NOTE: She is one of the ones I should have avoided and I knew it after the first date, but still tried for a second. These type of women are my kryptonite.

Thanks for answering my question! I assumed that you wanted a LTR so my question implied that. Definitely correct me if I am wrong. I guess I was trying to show that most men and women (not all) will try to pick the best option if thrown with many options as opposed to just women doing that.

No problem. At this point I am NOT looking for an LTR. Just fun and meeting new people. This means that I will likely pass up relationship material girls for whoever I deem will be the most "fun" at that time, to clarify.

I'd say that I'll give anyone who fits that category a real chance. And even the attractiveness part is up in the air. If a chick is a 6 but is really cool, I'll absolutely go out with her and see where it goes. As it is now, I notice that I've met a lot of women where I have a ton in common and the theme that happens over and over again is that they blow me off for other options. Sometimes it's understandable, maybe they want the 6'3 jacked guy who lives on mommy's trust fund and drives a brand new bmw. I get it. But when someone works in the same field, worked in the same area of Africa, has a lot of the same hobbies, same sense of humor, etc and then they blow me off, it makes me understand that meeting 28/30 in the criteria range isn't good enough for modern dating. They just need that extra little bit and they're going to ride dick until they damn well find it.

Hell, let's look an ex of mine. We get along great for months. I save her dog's life. She thinks I'm the best thing since sliced bread. Then she dumps me saying she sees no future. Ok. Then she's on Match.com looking for someone because she'd like to have kids. (she's 35) What was wrong with me? I don't know, she wouldn't tell me. Just give me something to work with here....nope. She said I was amazing but no future. And meanwhile she's scared ****less that she won't meet anyone to have kids with at her age.

I don't condone settling with someone when you aren't happy but if you get along great with someone and you genuinely think they're amazing, goddamn, give it a fcking shot at least...

Not in modern dating though. TOO MANY OPTIONS. MUST TRY THE NEXT ONE!!!!

See above
Thanks for responding back too! I see your point and feel your frustration. You might have a lot of common things with these women and they say nice things to you or you guys had great dates but maybe they just don't have that special feeling toward you as you do toward them. They might not even have any reasons at all as to why except that they just don't feel it. You cannot force someone to like you or give you a chance just because you guys have many things in common.

As for your ex, she made that decision and now she has to deal with the consequences. No need to ask her to give you something to work with. That will only give you more headaches. Just take it as you two were not right for each other and move on.

Sometimes I wonder why you guys torture yourself ( besides getting laid) by going on dating apps over and over again even though you know how crappy they are. I am talking about dating apps that most men here complain about. Yes I understand that they are great ways to meet people but most of what I read are bad things.

USR - take a break. You sound tired. :-)

Nothing is nothing wrong with average. You just can't be average to your SO.

If you saw me as your 25th/100 best fit, why would you date me? You wouldn't. You will always gravitate you to the person you perceive as your best fit and distance yourself away from those that you don't.

You have to be each others 10/10 or you are wasting each others time. No one starts out as 10/10 though. Which is why things that seem to be going good end up crashing and burning. Even if you felt for a short while you were that person's 10/10, if you get dumped, you were nowhere close.

Maybe in a world where a person doesn't have any responsibilities, duties, tasks, interestes, passions etc. in their life and they don't like / love their momentary date or partner. But - and I said that already in the past once - a (quite) "good" choice / date is often actually a "very good" one.

Nobody with stuff going on in their life will have the nerve "to trade" each and every date or later partner in for a supposedly "better version" - plus not to forget dating is VERY time and nerve consuming for women and men too.

That one-dimensional, black-and-white best fit-thinking is just here, among some guys in this forum prevalent. Unfortunately they spread this upgrade-nonsense on and on and on.

I agree 100%. People aren't looking to constantly trade up. They realize the person they are with are not the best fit and move on. From there they try to learn what a better fit is and then try to find it.

Can't get a second date or never get something to last more than a few months? Guess what, she didn't think you were her best fit for NUMEROUS reasons. It's never just one. You really need to start looking at stuff that is more in your control to figure out why it keeps happening instead of playing the victim.

Or maybe you weren't a fit at all! It doesn't automatically mean that she has other options right away or in near future etc. It just means, you weren't a fit / match if you don't get a second date. Just move on and look for someone who fits (and by fitting I mean especially matching in some interests, hobbies, world views etc.).

Personally I often liked to read detailed profiles of men online, by that I mean questions where people had to make up and type in their own answer. Sometimes it was like a chamber of horrors reading someone's answers and views (similar to here in this forum, although here it's much worse...), and other times it was great and exciting to discover a lovely character of a second guy. Or sometimes a few didn't even write their lines by themselves, let others write or stole answers - and that I discovered on the first date then and how they really are... *lol*.

Experiences, nice to have but very time consuming.

Did you ever consider that you're just trying way to hard to force the issue here?

You seem to be dating or approaching someone 3-4 days per week. You have to be jaded as hell by now. Don't you think you're projecting that at least a little bit in the way you treat these women?

Exactly. A realist would acknowledge he is not the best looking person in in the world, but he is definitely a 10/10 to you for look and personality, or else you would not be with him.

A break might be good. I don't want to use the word desperation, but I think he may want to so badly to finally find someone that women might be picking up on some for of non verbal communication.

If you serial date, all this becomes a blur at some point. At least it does for me. I serial date in cycles. I''ll get a rotation for a couple of months and see if anything pans out. If nothing pans out I take some time off and "reset." When I'm psychologically ready, I'll try again. Every cycle I usually find one woman worth perusing, so when that pans out I'm usually emotionally and mentally exhausted and just need a break for a while.

Unironically that pic at the top is the total situation. A boring, forgettable female gets an endless carosel of likely interesting guys parading through her.

As an aside, I bought my last date dinner ( I normally have a rule about not buying girls stuff because it's always worked out better when I don't)
'Oh I'll get you back next time!'
There wasn't a next time.

Nothing personal however this sounds like bs. Modern girls are FLOODED by 'legit' guys. You have 5's thinking they deserve the 9's that sometimes bang them. Added endless social media ego whoring. Mixed with endless u-go-gurlism very few girls out there are going to think 'hes too good for me'.

10/24: Went out with a woman who in pictures appeared to be exactly my type. In reality... no. She was still kind of interesting. Hung out with her for a couple hours all in all a nice night. Very successful lady. (Could probably be my sugar mama if I was into stuff like that.) I won't see her again. I wish I could be friends with her but I don't think it's a good idea to push for that.

This Friday I have a date with a woman who on paper is perfect. Beautiful (has sent me multiple selfies so I don't think this one is catfishing.) Successful. Interesting. Has a wealth of life experiences. Crazy sense of humor. (literally just texted me that the date was off just as a joke to **** with me). Texts me all the time and even called me once just because. I kind of know why she likes me this much but it still makes me a little uncomfortable. I think she has ME on a pedestal. I feel like I have to be perfect. And she has me completely out of my frame. Hopefully I settle down by the time Friday rolls around.

Sometimes it's hard to take you seriously.

Anyone with an IQ over 3 knows what cope actually means. When you use it in an incorrect way to address something that isn't cope, it makes you look retarded. Understand now? Of course you don't.

What I've noticed from you in numerous threads now is that you strawman the **** out of issues and then argue from this little man you built instead of actually say anything of substance. It's too bad because you actually mix it in with some really good things as well. Yes, I read your posts but I honestly think you have some sort of mental issue. Maybe you're drinking a lot?

Your first problem and the main one that I've noticed you've done is to assume you know everything about the person you're addressing. Instead of asking a question to confirm, you build that strawman that I mentioned earlier and then build off that even more.

For instance, assuming I pick the wrong women. That's false. I give EVERYONE who fits some basic criteria (which I mentioned already) a fair shot. I've dated a very wide range of people and I've been happy with them regardless of their professions, types of personalities, family backgrounds, money status, etc etc etc. This is one example of why I can't take you seriously. You ARE a narcissist because only a narcissist can make so many goddamn assumptions and then pat themselves on the back because you assume they're true. Get the fck over yourself.

I am taking a break. I've already deleted all the online dating **** and don't plan on getting back into it.

I also never said I wanted to force anyone to like me or want to date me. I'm talking about spending multiple months with someone, being told daily that I'm amazing, them telling their co-workers how great I am, wanting to spend tons of time with me, etc etc (what you'd normally think is a healthy relationship) and then having it end for reasons not being told. Sure, I'm not the right fit for them. I get that, I'm not autistic. But it seems no one can just be honest about it.

This is exactly the point I'm talking about above. Where I think in years past, people would at least settle a bit to see if something works out, now it's a constant shift in a short period of time. No, I don't want to go back to the era of having to marry the neighbor in small town America. I'll take freedom with pros and cons any day of the week. The issue is that this dating revolution and social media have brought consequences to the world that I think a lot of people aren't recognizing yet.

Why do I torture myself? Well, it's torture because I'm a man and I have to put in 99% of the effort. It's not torture for the woman when they literally do jack **** and just reap the rewards of dating until they pick the thing they want. Sure, I can just not put in the work but then it's a stroke of luck if I happen to meet anyone. There have been places (Phoenix, Seattle, couple other places) where it seems to be closer to 50/50 but for the most part, it's me setting up dates, me setting up the logistics, me setting up X, Y and Z and then getting no returns. So yes, it's "torture" but if I ever want to meet anyone then that's how it goes.

Can't get a second date or never get something to last more than a few months? Guess what, she didn't think you were her best fit for NUMEROUS reasons. It's never just one. You really need to start looking at stuff that is more in your control to figure out why it keeps happening instead of playing the victim.

using your ****ty argumentation skills to build a strawman instead of actually address anything. This isn't a victim thread, it's a log of dating and trying to find the reasoning behind it. If you weren't a narcissist, you'd probably understand that part. I've done enough things in my life to know what an actual victim is and I never feel sorry for myself. I feel frustration, disappointment, plenty of emotions but not victim status. Maybe next time ASK about that instead of being a condescending piece of ****.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, I give everyone a fair shot during the date. Even the boring chick that made me want to stab my eyeballs out got a fair shot. And even today during training, I had an instructor come up to me and say "dude, you must meet all kinds of amazing women" because he assumed (based on my happy personality) that the dating game was easy for me. People always seem to assume that about me. I don't bring jaded personalities over to dates.

Hell, the nurse I went out with recently joked around with me so much that my sides ended up hurting with laughter.

Do I try to force the issue? That's the debatable part. I tell women what I think:

"Hey, I really had a good time, let's go out again Saturday"
"I think we're having fun, let's see each other again tomorrow for lunch"

*couple dates in*

"I like the dates we've been on, let's keep it going"

etc etc

^-----Don't use those exact words but you get the point. I have a suspicion I'm scaring some women away with that. I get that and I'm open to advice/criticism/suggestions about a lot of this kind of thing but there's no fcking way in hell I'm bringing bad vibes to any of my dates. Also, (maybe good maybe bad) I ALWAYS roast myself on dates. Women sometimes are uneasy around me because I'm muscular, former military, did all sorts of crazy **** with guns, explosions, medicine, etc so I make fun of myself like it's my job. It always seems to lighten the initial mood but once again, I'm open to suggestions if people think that's bad. I'm here to learn as much as the nxt guy.

I'm a hyper-aware person, to the point where I wish I wasn't. I'm this way because growing up with a psychotic mother made me terrified that I wouldn't take social cues from people when they were uncomfortable around me. So if anything, I take TOO MUCH from non-verbal communication. I'm very aware when someone isn't having it. I've ended plenty of dates because of it and I won't even bother asking for a second date if I know she wasn't happy. The only one that was different was a single mom who went on an entire tirade of how she wanted to set up this hot air balloon date for us and went into detail on it. I made the mistake of actually believing that **** and then never heard from her again. My bad.

PS - Other possible negative things about myself when it comes to dating:

-If a chick blows me off twice, I'm done talking to her.

^---I know a lot of the game players in here would say this is stupid but I don't budge on this one. I'm well aware that women love to play games and I'm well aware that blah blah blah, I have to accept it. Nope. I've met women before who don't do this and it's been great. I know this limits my own chances but I refuse to play stupid games. I refuse. I take it as a sign of complete disrespect. If someone blows me off, they can at least have some human decency about it. If that happens, I don't count it as them blowing me off. Example: Girl I drove 2 hours to see who bailed when I was 5-10 minutes from her house. She then texts me weeks later asking why I stopped talking to her. At this point, I think a lot of guys here would have suggested I capitalize on it but I think that's a sign of personal insecurity (tell me I'm wrong if you can make the argument) where you allow someone to do something like that to you. If you got bailed on driving 2 hours to see someone and then they sent a text like that and you took them back up on an offer, I'd probably use the words I hate most in the misc to describe you (beta, cuck, etc)

-I take what people say at face value

^---I'll admit right away this is terrible but I don't want to get in the habit of assuming everyone is a lying piece of ****. If they say they had a great time and want to see me again, I'll assume they're being honest. It's obviously not true. There's obviously non-verbal parts that go with it but if everything points towards good then I stupidly believe what I'm being told.

-If someone is really weirded out by the fact I don't drink to the point where they seem visibly disgusted by it, I'm done with them

^---But US_Ranger, play games and see if you can get laid. Nah, I'm good thanks. If anyone here thinks I shouldn't be this way, let me know

-I downplay the things I've done in life

^---As someone mentioned above (maybe I didn't respond?) maybe women are intimidated by me. That's a possibility. In my room I have a bunch of stuff I've collected from all over the world. Some ranger stuff (not too much), stuff from SE Asia, Africa, Central America, etc. The nurse woman who came over recently said in a joking manner that she was intimidated by my travel experiences. Noted. I downplay all of it though and I'm so anti-ego about it that on 80% of dates, they don't even end up knowing much about travels, things I've done, jobs I've had, etc. I think this might be one of the bigger factors in my lack of success and I'm not sure how to go about tackling it. I've seen some of my friends date women and they brag about the DUMBEST ****. Cool, you passed X, Y or Z. Who gives a fck? Are women seriously impressed when men brag? Any ladies want to chime in on this one? I never thought so but maybe I'm an idiot on this one and completely wrong.

Anyway, just some thoughts I had. Any feedback other than strawman arguments are appreciated.

I'm not really sure what you're looking for in all of this so I'm not going to comment any further

I have been out of the dating game for over 10 years now. At the risk of sounding horribly cliche, I'm going to say this anyway. I always had the best luck with women when I wasn't looking for them.

Good luck though brother. I hope you find what you're looking for

Checking in to back Pondus. I think his advice is very valuable. He can preach it is not ALL about looks because he has a good personality and knows how to trigger a woman, especially attraction (too well at times by the sounds of it). The thing is, he expects all of us to have it too, but we are all unique in our own way, everyone is different. However, it also sounds like he has improved himself to become this way so it is not to say it ain't possible. ie) mentioning being a former introvert and now is extrovert. That chit takes work and effort. How bad do you want it brahs?

Ranger: not looking to stir the pot bro, but you think EVERYONE has mental issues, including me a while back (I was bi-polar). Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions man or perhaps keep those thoughts to yourself at times.

There are pros and cons to all of the active posters in the RH. Just part of being human.

Do I think pondus is condescending at times? Absolutely.
Do I think he gives good advice 80% of the time? Absolutely.

I just believe his advice is more relevant for a specific type of person. His advice to an FA'er will never, ever hit. His advice to someone like myself will hit most of the time. His experience is unique and he believes in what he is saying and sometimes that can translate wrong. I think we are all guilty of some of those flaws around here.

What's next for you USR? In life, dating, etc. Where are you headed next in your life?

It has nothing with him knowing how to "trigger" women. He's in shape, in his 30s, isnt ugly, has his life together, lives in California, and is forward with women. That is a recipe for slaying in your 30s in America. He is EASILY above the competition at his age group.

His advice will only work for men that are capable and get attention from women but don't know how to capitalize on it. For us that have women avoid eye contact, look at the floor, look scared or make eww faces when women suggest they consider us? It wont work. His advice means fuk all. (Hence why it may work for you)

USR maybe with the next date you go on, don't mention the "let's do this again." Let her do come to you.
Just a thought.

We don't "let" women do anything. A woman will only COME to you if she wants to. Him not setting another date isnt going to magically shift attraction versus him not doing anything. The "let them come to you" mantra only works for high status men. Whether its looks, money, or social status. USR has SOMETHING offin the eyes of womento take all the L's he does. Find it kinda funny how he used to flame me, but he seems to be in the same boat. Get a date or a girl show interest and then they vanish. The only difference is she seems to think he is more control of this than myself.

I can't speak for other women but for me, I was raised to be modest/humble about my accomplishments. In turn, I also look for that quality in a man. You don't have to brag about it. People will see who you really are in the long run.

By the way, I did not mean that you are forcing women to like you. It just a general statement. That was a bad choice of word to use on my part.

He gives good advice in plenty of situations. Sometimes his "advice" is to brag about then strawman about something off-topic. I don't know the dude in real life so maybe it's some sort of insecurity issue on his part or maybe he's a straight up narcissist. I don't know. Something is off though.

I'm not looking for anything in particular. This whole thread is a log of dating in general. So far it's a lot of L's. It's not a big deal. Sure it's frustrating. Any normal human being would feel that way. At the end of the day it doesn't affect anything though so I'd say I agree with your assessment. You find the best things when you aren't looking. At the same time, with modern dating, the landscape has changed a lot. I had FAR more success dating in my 20's than I do now. Things are different now and to also sound cliche, I feel like maybe I fell of the wagon in doing the whole traditional dating thing where I take a girl out, buy her dinner and (if the date went well) tell her I had a good time. It doesn't work anymore.

This is a bodybuilding forum that attracts a very specific type of person. Look at the misc and tell me that there aren't a ton of people with mental issues posting. If you say there aren't, you're a liar. Pondus does give good advice often times, I said that in my rant against him as well. At the same time, he gives crap advice too. In the "I have too many women I'm talking to" thread, he's talking about ranking women and then shifting ranks around to talk to all of them. What a waste of time and extra stress. Just talk to 2 of them. Anyway, plenty of people would disagree with me on that because their dicks get hard at the thought of talking to as many women as humanly possible. One of the many reasons I think that modern dating has gone to ****. Plus, a lot of this advice is just not-so-humble brag advice on his part.

Moving forward in life like I always do. Work/school/training. As I mention in here plenty of times, this log isn't my "feel sorry for me" experience log. I care about dating for about an hour a day (depending on how much time I've wasted) and lately (since last Friday) it's been zero hours a day. This entire thing is an experience of a 34 year old white male in good shape, pretty good looking, well traveled, introverted but in a controlled sense, etc etc in the dating world. I started the entire thing because of the hilarious L's I was taking (like the stripper chick, wtf was that?) and now it's just ended up being a pattern which is fine.

I've dated plenty of great women before. Hell, the last one was a model that ended moving across the country so we can't date anymore. I fully support her chasing her dreams so I wasn't going to tell her to stay here just to be with me. It's not like I haven't had success before (even recently), it's just that the last few months have been ridiculous.

Just a thought.
A very good idea. That being said, I think it would only work with someone I know and definitely not from anything online. If I don't put in full effort for a lot of follow up dates, I won't get follow up dates. I'm going to do some cold approaching this weekend when I have a day off so that could be the better choice with girls in that regard.

Find it kinda funny how he used to flame me, but he seems to be in the same boat. Get a date or a girl show interest and then they vanish. The only difference is she seems to think he is more control of this than myself.
You are in control of it. If you think there's not something off then you're crazy. We've been over this. There's obviously something off about me too. I'm not stupid and repeating patterns don't appear for no reason. Sure, maybe I hit the L lottery and somehow just met the worst 20 women (in the last few months) on the planet who offer nothing other than a pulse or maybe something is wrong with me that makes them not want anything to do with me. I'm not going to be arrogant about it and assume it's always everyone else. Sometimes it is. The single moms who ask right out of the gate how much $$$ I make. Yeah, that's them being worthless. The stripper chick. Don't even need to say anything. At the same time, the nursing girl who had a great time with me. I don't know why. As I said earlier I'm guessing it's because of the mass amount of options. She's probably hoping she meets someone she gets along with like she does with me but maybe owns a house? Maybe looks differently? (even though she says she's super attracted to me who knows) Maybe X, Y, Z. The thing is, I'd LOVE to make improvements but no one is ever honest so I have to play the guessing game each time for why things don't work out. But am I in control of things? Yes. I'm in control of how I behave about it. Get frustrated. But then goddamn fix yourself. Every morning I wake up is a new day and I'm pumped for it. I don't know how you are in life but if you aren't feeling that way then maybe you should try it.

By the way, I did not mean that you are forcing women to like you. It just a general statement. That was a bad choice of word to use on my part.
Yeah, getting to see someone in the long run requires a few dates though at the very least. I agree with you though.

With the somewhat recent ex who's dog I saved, the conversation was actually about that sort of thing, trying to see who each other in the long term about being honest about it. We were on a hike and talking about how people don't get to know the real someone until months into a relationship. We were talking about how people always have their best foot forward to impress and then the truth comes out eventually, etc. She asked me how I handled situations that involve stress and who I am when things aren't going so well. That's a VERY important thing to me as I think men should be able to handle pressure and respond accordingly. Plus, evolutionary, it's what made someone be a protector of the clan/women/children/etc.

So I told her, I think I'm better in REALLY stressful/terrible situations than I am in daily life. I have this weird ability to actually calm down more than normal when everything around me has gone wrong in a bad way. I explained that in daily life I feel like I'm just floating through and the pressures involved are differently.

No ****, 2 minutes later, her dog gets swept away in the raging river near the trail. I jump in, save her dog, almost die myself. We joke around afterwards about the timing of our talk. She also later tells all her co-workers about it, says I'm amazing and that 99% of guys would never do such a thing, blah blah blah. At this point I thought maybe we had some sort of connection and that I somehow separated myself from the team of guys that any attractive woman can have waiting for them if they want. NOPE. Lol. She dumps me a month later with the whole "I don't see you in my future" talk.

I just don't get that sort of thing. These are the situations that are so confusing to me that I can't seem to explain anything or rationalize anything. I feel like she really got to know me and who I am as a person and I feel like there were a couple situations we had (the dog thing being one) where I was able to prove that I wasn't some dude just faking it. I wasn't a self-proclaimed "alpha" who's really an insecure man puffing his chest out (look at the misc for examples) and yet I get a generic breakup without even so much of an explanation why or even something to work with so I can improve myself. Maybe this is the ranger in me but when you fck something up in the military, everyone is brutally honest as to what you need to do to fix yourself. I know this doesn't transfer to woman mode where it's all puzzles and hidden meanings but I'm obviously doing something wrong and I don't know what it is because no one ever tells me a damn thing.

And your statement was fine, it's always in the back of my mind if I'm trying too hard to force something.
