Switch the sex partner count for men and women and it would be more accurate, average male will exaggerate their count while average female will understate theirs.

There are of course plenty of men with very high counts but not enough to offset the many more who don't.

In any case, I'd say it's 3 to 5 on average. There's a big problem with statistics though, when data clusters in a bimodal way. So we get like 5% of the male population at zero for their lifetime, 35% at one for life, and 30% at 2-3, and 20% getting 4-6 partners, then the remaining 10% getting 7-20,000 (think Wilt Chamberlain), thus skewing the results.
