People need to do more research about what they put into their bodies and look for well absorbed forms of vitamins for their age group(ie calcium carb is fine if you're young, but older people should be using citrate or an already reacted form)I can understand the distrust of the fitness/supplement industry, but I never understood why people choose whey protein to attack (unless it's a brand that amino acid spikes, or uses cheaper milk concentrates/whey concentrates).
Surely whey is the one legitimate "supplement." It's just protein with a complete amino acid profile. Sure it doesn't benefit you anymore than egg whites/chicken breast, but it's convenient and relatively cheap. I don't really even consider it a "supplement," but rather just a grocery item...
With all the BS crap out there produced by supplement companies, complete with flimsy/falsified "studies," people choose whey... Lmao.
Edit: Lol'd at "chemical substitute" for protein.

Whey can be a good supplement, but I think 20-30 grams of protein is a bit excessive. I can see 15g/serving being more reasonable for the average person.
A lot of people are into smoothies these days. So whey/veg protein powders is an easy way to boost protein intake. I personally prefer veg protein supplements because they're easier to digest for me with less side effects like gas/upset stomach, but whey is still a great source of protein too. I also feel BCAA and individual amino acids have their place and can be helpful for recovery(BCAA),prevent getting sick from physical stress/lifting(glutamine,lysine), but remember they are supplements, not replacements for a meal or exercise

Higher protein doesnt mean more gains but high protein diets burn more fats due to the thermal effect protein has on the body. Read it on tnation.
Whey is just an easy way of consuming protein. Youre a retard if you think its a must and youre even more of a retard if you think its a scam/chemical.
I like it cus its tasty, easy and GREAT for getting protein while in a caloric deficit.

I have always been an easy gainer so I really honestly don't see a difference between protein use.
And yes whey is a natural milk byproduct however the other added aminos and stuff that the protein is spiked with is often Chinese raw material which can contain contaminants. I used to work in that industry.

Of course whey isn't necessary.. but I don't get why people say getting protein from real food, with all else equal, is better (assuming the rest of the diet, and hence nutrients in chicken/whatever that aren't in when etc. are the same).
The studies I have seen suggest the body absorbs whey protein about as well as any other source, and significantly better than some sources. I really doubt protein shakes guy and chicken guy would have much different results holding all else equal (including genetics).

he says that if you want to get big, you HAVE to consume whey protein for extra protein
it's amazing how brainwashed people are into thinking that whey protein is this magical supplement that is going to give you gains, when they don't understand the simple concept of macronutrients. all whey protein is is a chemical substitute for protein, which you should be consuming through whole foods like beans, meat, and nuts.
i understand if you need whey protein on-the-go if you don't have time to cook all the time, but if you think its ESSENTIAL to have a good body then just LMAO @ YOU
also I was telling him how you only need about .8g protein/1 lb of bodyweight but so many people think you need to take 1.5g+/1lb of bodyweight... just lmao
then he disregard everything i said and just said "thanks for reminding me, i gotta take my whey protein for the day" just lmao...

No pro has specifically said this.. But they have said it without saying it, beat around the bush about it, etc. Rich Piana is pretty candid about it saying always choose real food when available. A few pros have had the balls to come out and admit they only drink whey when food isnt available even when the supps company sponsors them.

Protein powder isn't a "chemical" synthesized in a lab it comes from dairy just like cheese or ice cream it is comparable to powdered milk it is just dehydrated for convenience. Whey concentrate is a byproduct of making cheese that is ISOLATED from the rest via filtration. Christ you fellas are thick. Just google it if you don't believe me, but then again you probably don't believe anyone but Rich fuking Piano. I'm waiting for you to start telling everyone to wake up and using the word "sheeple"
EDIT: looks like I am late to the sacrifice of GL to the God of gains. Will rep fellow intelligent posters when I get off 24hr recharge.

lol'd at chemical substitute. Your friend may be stupid but you lost the argument calling it a chemical substitute.

supplemental
You can use the adjective supplemental to describe something extra. You could volunteer to donate your collection of markers and colored pencils to a local school that needs supplemental art supplies.
Something that's supplemental is added when there's a lack or deficiency. You might feed the runt from a litter of puppies supplemental milk because he can't get enough from his mother(your typical errant miscer). Teachers are famous for assigning supplemental reading to round out the information in a textbook. Supplemental comes from the Latin supplementum, "added to supply a deficiency."
WTF are you guys even arguing about? They are SUPPLEMENTS. By definition they are not there to replace a whole food source of protein like beef or fish or chicken or quinoa (yes there is 1 plant based COMPLETE protein). They are there to shore up any shortcomings of that macro in particular, not even purporting to replace all of the other vital micros that your macros contain.
If you aren't eating a robust diet with lots of fats, carbs and proteins sourced from both living (plants) and dead (meat) organisms you aren't doing your best. The body works as a holistic system. It requires and is able to use hundreds of different vitamins and minerals and other life giving micros. If you're a natty lifter you should focus on your overall health, anyway, because looking healthy as **** is more attractive (and healthier) than semi-big muscles underneath blotchy, dried out skin that indicates your vital organs are gobbling up the insufficient amount of nutrients you're consuming, so they can work against the tide of toxins your **** diet is likely subjecting them to (monsters and redbulls boyos? come the **** on).
I eat a plethora of whole foods and the number one compliment I get from non-lifters is that I look very healthy. Health is very attractive.

The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.
