Lest we need to point out that western societies are miles ahead of buddhist ones?
If you look up.nirvana theyre shriveled old indian men in leather diapers they chit in looking like they havent showered in months.
Meanwhile western nirvana is a mansion in a suit with a nice car.
I see the spiritual discussion and understand but if were talking from an OBJECTIVE point of view. One very clearly delineates a higher "quality" of life. Seeing as one is bathing in feces and the other is not
Also, im not explicitly stating this but you know misc montra likes to point out that liberalism is the downfall of society. Id argue egolessness is more a liberal cause and perhaps americas downturn coinsides with an uptick in liberalism? (Idk havent researched. Just suggesting)

Pain and suffering only exist to discourage behaviours that lessen our chances of dna replication.
Morality only exists only because acting that way slightly increased the likelihood of survival of those who act that way.
Literally everything anyone ever does is done to increase their chances of dna replication.

The Buddha taught for approx. 40 years after his awakening. Not once is there a record of him bathing in his feces.

Also, youre on a bodybuilding forum. It generally takes hard work, rigidity, sticking to a plan -- passion, identity, etc.
It does NOT take egolessness; its literally about the ego. And yet, its a high accomplishment
Buddha was fat, literally all intepretations of buddha have him fat.
I knew he was a rich and hes the pinnacle of what people talk about when meditating but idk if it was a practice before him.
In another thread similar to this. Someone posited that meditating started because back in asia, the kings were di*ks. The kings would take all of the women and everything they had
As a result a subsect of people were tired of "wanting" things so set out to create a philosophy that would kill them wanting to have anything
No idea how credible it is but it makes sense

It's one thing to have ego and another to be so self centered that you feel everyone else is beneath you. Big difference.
Also, who you think you are as a person doesn't mean sh!t to the rest of us and is almost always inaccurate. The person you are is defined by what others think of you, not how you view yourself.
Example:
Twenty people who know Jimmy think he's an a$$hole, but Jimmy doesn't think he's an a$$hole. Is Jimmy an a$$hole?
You're damn right he is.

Now if a homeless guy lives the life he wants to and is following his true path he is "manifesting" or expressing his will to power just as much as a financial banker, who also is on a true path. They both have overcome a lot of programming and enslavement to figure out what they want in life.
Also a lot of philosophers would argue that a hard life - with few choices - is a happier life.

Without ego you merely just exist.
Basically just a lung for trees and nothing more.
The ego is humanity. Stimulation.
It's what sets us apart from the animals.
When was the last time you heard of a mollusc experiencing torment/ecstacy?
FUK those eastern mystics (SRS). We weren't put here to sit cross-legged in silence for 70 years. Those *******s have got it all wrong.
Without ego, we mankind would still be pointless apes.

you are generally 100% operating under the pretense there is a "you".
when you say there is a "you" you are generally thinking about your body, but it literally only applies to consciousness
anyways, i dont get it because i have papers stating the "wanting" things is necessary and that the "ego" as a holding place is necessary. otherwise we'd be brain dead
this is how i dont get it's association with something good. i USED to think i knew what it was talking about but the true thing is horrible. i also had these same identity problems when i freaked out on weed

Nothing wrong with the ego, but Im pretty sure the ego is not ultimately real or true. Its an illusion, but its all we got. Everyone has to wear a costume one way or the other. I believe that not identifying with your ego is the true potential of a human being tho and will lead to a much better way to live your life, but you probably wont have much motivation to get chit done.
Getting a lot of chit done is overrated though. I mean, Stalin and Hitler did a lot of stuff, but wouldnt it be best if they just sat at home smoking da herb instead?

The "ego" in this context is just a way of giving worth to ourselves, because a sense of self worth make us want to preserve our lives, thus resulting in more opportunities to reproduce.
However I agree that this is a good thing, without this, we have no desire to live and experience success, thus not being rewarded by our brains for these actions.
If you want tk move beyond the idea of humans as DNA replicators the only reasons to live are the pleasurable chemicals our brain produces.

Some people in here are mistaking the ego with a deluded ego (aka Testifier).
There not what I'm talking about.
I'm talking about the self-fuelled desire to improve/create.
Something everyone is born with.
But I know that without it, you might as welll be dead.

A lot of people don't know how to control their egos and become either narcissistic or sociopaths, but generally you need an ego to function, it's part of having a self-esteem in the first place, and people who say otherwise are usually just insecure weirdos from my experience

The id is your base instinctual desires and drive
The superego is the societal/moral restrictions on how we live
And the ego mediates between the forces of the id and superego to provide the correct/moat optimal responses to situations.
-The ego that people itt are talking about is a constructed sense of self based on what we think we should be.
-The ego others are talking about is a personification of high self worth, seen to be exaggerated, this is similar but not the same as the second meaning.
You are talking more about the id - the base desires and motivations we have, but to some extent also the ideas we have about ourselves and how we should be, but *******s itt are talking about freeing themselves from their self laid/base expectations/sense of self to find enlightenment - or just about not being arrogant
Like everything in misc 90% of the argument is semantics.

The "monks" that you're referring to aren't trying to destroy their self-esteem; they're trying to find truth/awareness/clarity. For instance, most people want money because they think "x" amount of money will get them that "thing" and they will finally be happy/complete. What they usually find is a false sense of happiness that is never enough. True happiness isn't momentary joy/excitement... it is a feeling of being at peace no matter the circumstance. Like a rainstorm could roll through and destroy your picnic and instead of being annoyed/angry about something outside you're like a little kid throwing food and rolling around in the mud.
The "monk" type people you're referring to are trying to rid themselves of attachments. Attachments are those things that cause you say to yourself, "I will be happy if..." or "I will be happy when..." consciously or subconsciously.

There not what I'm talking about.
I'm talking about the self-fuelled desire to improve/create.
Something everyone is born with.
But I know that without it, you might as welll be dead.

Kids are interesting because they show us how we could be if we didn't have all the bullchit lies filling up our head. They find happiness and peace in just doing the things they like to do... not in what those things will "supposedly" give them monetarily. I've seen too many people give up on what they're passionate about because they were afraid they couldn't make enough money doing it to be happy.
