Ever noticed how most of the people who criticise the ego are unemployed, lazy drug addicts?

Ever noticed how Buddhist Monks who practice an ego-less existence are nothing more than unproductive oxygen thieves?

Our egoes seperate us from garden snails.

Ego is pride
Ego is ambition
Ego is drive

Lack of ego = depression.

Never listen to people who strive to achieve ego death.

Those people are weak and have given up.

Yes but by default the ego also isn't real.

It's not bad unless it's to the point where you're not getting things done that you need to.

Up to a certain point, the less ego the have the more successful you'll be at anything you try.

But you still need some semblance of an ego or ultimately you'll never be successful.

agreed.

i actually think it stems from competition; it's other people trying to convince others that they don't have the right to survive.

but you'll never have more problems than when you don't attempt satisfy your own problems.

Millions of years of evolution have helped ingrained the sense of a self in human beings to help with survival. We also experience the world through the physical senses which cause our experience to be surrounded around ourselves as more important than any other. Its as if you were playing a game or sport with others and want to ignore all the rules that make it fun just so you win. The rules exist for a reason.

Likewise in life the ******* with the big ego wants to but in line and doesn't care about others. Stuff like that.

Pride is swelling, those with ridiculous amounts of pride are like a balloon, soon to be deflated by reality. For example some guy could think he's the best at whatever, but then someone else inevitably comes along better and the guy then suffers and he suffers specifically because of his ego and erroneous thinking.

The false sense of self that people cling to is also responsible for all stress a person experiences (ie. anger).

Instead of seeing things how you want to see them, you can see them for what they are and why they are (causation).

You don't need to go a completely detached existence like the Buddhist monks but the ego with its attachment to the material world is what creates the majority of suffering. Pride (and not in the traditional sense that you might use it as, such as a father being proud of his son's touchdown.. But more of pride in the sense that one tends to automatically defend their mental positions at all costs) overrides compassion

see this is my problem with it.

you seem to have a problem with someone thinking he's the chit and then getting deflated.. but i call that life

that's inherent with life, there's no need to fight it. but its also good to strive to be the best you can be

i feel like this whole ego chit is trying to convince people not to do the latter

besides delusion is necessary

imagine youre a medical student. the only way you can get through to eventually become a doctor is envisioning yourself as one. even if you aren't right now; it's SPECIFICALLY that delusion that is the catalyst that carries people on to do great things. if not, we'd forever be perpetually stuck in whatever our current state is

i will also 100% say that the ego CAN be bad, but it's not inherent. labeling something your forever stuck with as "bad" is a surefire way to be in misery

I don't have a problem with it, that's the way of the world. But those who think they're the chit are often put in their place, where as those who are good at what they do but aren't egotistical usually do better, handle failure better, and socialize with others better.

You can set goals but they aren't going to come to fruition because of how cool or awesome you think you are. It comes into being because the person took the necessary steps to get there. The person with the ego is more likely to believe they deserve whatever they set their mind to and then are confused when it doesn't come to be. The intelligent/wise person would focus on what needs to be done to make it happen.

Focusing on the sequence of steps has nothing to do with the ego.

I dunno about this ego death stuff, but I think most people talk about some sort of balance between your ego and your accomplishments. Perfect example is when people talk about ego lifting. Obviously you have to not be a bish and move weight but also don't go in and try you pull 4 plates with straps, wraps, a belt and with chit form cause you might snap city and damage your progress.

I have no fukin idea what monks are even trying to accomplish to be honest. Never read into eastern philosophy much. I can't claim to know chit about the truth of this life, but I'm pretty sure you're not gonno find it sitting around with a bunch of dudes on top of a mountain with nothing to do all day.

op speaks the truth. Lack of ego is what contributes to all these psychological disorders in thought patterns which usually stem for depression/anxiety and leads to crazy stuff like schizophrenia, as per freudian theology, however its mostly been forgotten and supplemented (quite literally) for big pharma. Want a good life? build a strong ego, dont repress it or dont retreat it, thats depression/giving up on survival instinct

lol billionaires cant even FATHOM the concept of what ego death is along with most psychonauts/drug explorers/eastern philosophy practitioners. To experience ego death, unless from a real heavy event, takes a certain disconnection from reality that most people really have the pleasure of avoiding.

You are actually the most deluded type of people.

The arrogance required to think that you are special or different is so strongly in contradiction to your trumped up stupid idea of "ego death" and you can't tell.

You are literally a DNA replication machine and nothing more.

Special or different? Thats like saying people don't have different lives, different types of depths of suffering and experience. If anything, you are in a battle with yourself posting this. In fact, you sound very similar to most of the defensie/insecure/jealous girls I've talked to. get your **** in gear kid, you sound like a pussy
